respectance.com

[edit]

A website where anyone can create a memorial about persons; current listing is at here. One and two examples of the spamming. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 03:10, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I see this is added quite often by IPs and some accounts who only add this link (actually the top 10 contains 9 such accounts, and Cluebot ..: Top 10 editors who have added respectance.com: 67.122.208.18 (15), Luvsoap (10), 62.194.163.206 (9), ManshaThapa (9), 77.253.172.84 (7), ClueBot (6), Tobiasero (4), 82.170.167.30 (4), 83.13.75.202 (3), 62.194.30.83 (2)).  Done. --Dirk Beetstra T C 11:27, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Flickr.com

[edit]

Free hosting site for images, not sure about abuse, therefore posting here to monitor:

Comment Some images on Flickr are hosted under a Creative Commons Licence. Some of those (not all) are suitable for use on Wikipedia. Blocking of this site could create problems for existing images uploaded to Wikipedia, and prevent future images being used when they may be needed to illustrate an article. Mjroots (talk) 11:13, 26 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This is not blocking, this is reverting inappropriate additions, which, I am afraid, is true for most of the additions by unestablished editors of domains on this list. If they are needed, they can be re-added by reverting the bot, etc. etc. Also, the image namespace is not reverted by the bot. --Dirk Beetstra T C 10:07, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Would support this. Stifle (talk) 14:30, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I could narrow this down by adding
 \bflickr\.com\/photos\b
as the rule (not sure if the '/search' and '/groups' should also be on it, probably). --Dirk Beetstra T C 14:34, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

lulu.com

[edit]

I would like to add www.lulu.com. After contacting wikipedia it says it is blocked here. It is a book site and I would like to add it to external links. Egolembiewski (talk) 14:36, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure what you want .. it is on the blacklist, so it can't be added anyway. Adding it here would not help anyway.  Not done --Dirk Beetstra T C 14:46, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lulu.com is not blacklisted, I already requested it to be taken off the blacklist and was told it is not on it. I was told to contact you about this and that adding it here would allow me to post it as an external link on another page.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Egolembiewski (talkcontribs)

lulu is here on the list: MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist (search for '\blulu\.com\b'), and can not be linked to. It is a (generally) unreliable site, and should not be linked to. Who told you to contact me here? --Dirk Beetstra T C 15:03, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Please see Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Spam#About 400 links to the two sites of one individual for details.

The site owner makes extensive use of sock puppets to add links to his sites, so XLinkBot could slow down his ability to re-add them. Nunquam Dormio (talk) 19:59, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Link Search gives 74 links. the site is a commercial tourism site. It does have some ino, but is not a reliable source. request deletion of these links and perhaps a blacklist. If I need to do something else beyond listing it here. please let me know. ChiragPatnaik (talk) 11:54, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'll monitor it and then have a look. Thanks for reporting. --Dirk Beetstra T C 12:44, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It looks like there is a range of IPs, each adding one link. I'll put it on the list.  Done. --Dirk Beetstra T C 13:44, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks ChiragPatnaik (talk) 16:27, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
will this automatically remove it? ChiragPatnaik (talk) 16:31, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Nope, it will now automatically revert it when an unestablished editor (including IPs) are adding it, anyone older than 7 days can add it without problems. As you say that the site does have some info, this seems to be a good site for on this list. I am afraid that someone will have to go through all the pages that now use the link, and clean those which are inappropriate. --Dirk Beetstra T C 13:19, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think anything that tries to set a referrer is good. Diffs: [3] [4]. If this is too general then

I have added them anyway, and took this as a chance to add the servers blogsavy.com, blogtownhall.com, weebly.com, meetup.com, as they clearly got abused. Still the subdomains on these servers may deserve blacklisting anyway.  Done --Dirk Beetstra T C 11:24, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ndsuniverse.com

[edit]

In the article Nintendo DS homebrew, users in two IPv4 address ranges have been adding links to a web site, ndsuniverse.com, which appears to host infringing copies of commercial Nintendo DS games. This appears to violate policy. phobos.apple.com

[edit]

I cannot think of any legitimate reasons why links to commercial iTunes store downloads need to be added to WP articles. I mentioned this a while back at MediaWiki talk:Spam-blacklist and it was suggested that I bring it here (I forgot until now). It is currently (but probably shouldn't be) used as a reference in some articles and as a generic source for non-free album covers - but it has been used for spamming in the past and is currently (from a glance at this) being used as a 'buy this album' link in quite a few articles. --Kurt Shaped Box (talk) 18:03, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

We have a chronic problem with false record charts being added to articles. These websites are the websites associated with the ones listed in WP:BADCHARTS. Just look at my contribution list to see how many bad charts I am pulling out each day. I would like to try this first before escalating to the MediaWiki spam blacklist to see if I can get the problem to stop growing while we try to reduce it in size.
