Hubert kupper was also going to be discharged after ww2 due to stomach injusries and in 1947 he and his cousin I think walked from New Brunswick NJ to Wash D.C. Uncle Moe as he was known by me also walked 1/2 the way backwards and was re-signed up in the Marines on the Capital steps. Then became part of the Frozen Chosen and I forgot when he retired, but he was a fantastic man to speak to and you should see his house in Brunswick, he had a big flagpole and 2 morters next to the flagpole.
