Hi X! I've seen you wrote some usefull tools. But most of them only possible to use at en:WP. Woult it be possible, to expand the tools also to other language versions? Marcus Cyron (talk) 15:55, 24 September 2009 (UTC)

the tool "Pages created"
Hi,
The tools you make on toolserver.org/~soxred93 are very good but could I ask you if you can make the tool "Pages created" for the others wikipedia as en:wp ? Perso, I'm french and if this tools works with fr:wp, it would be great!!
Thank you --tpa2067 (Allô...) 15:23, 29 November 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tpa2067 (talk • contribs)

Tools
I just found your tools (see e.g., this) and I love them! I think in particular your tool for WP:RfA might be useful for the ongoing discussions about the lack of support for sysops. Bearian (talk) 21:27, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for your praise, but I'm not the one to be thanking. The code is actually mostly written by SQL, and I just brought it over to my account when he brought all his tools down. I shouldn't be taking the credit for it. :) (X! · talk) · @069 · 00:39, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
Bug report
I tried to post this on JIRA, which failed - "Reporter is required". So I tried to register which again, failed - "org.codehaus.xfire.XFireRuntimeException: Could not invoke service.. Nested exception is org.codehaus.xfire.fault.XFireFault:" Since I don't have the time to file a bug report on the service for filing bug reports, I'll just post here. My account was renamed recently from Hexagon1 to Happenstance, and since then the RfA counter has not worked. The only thing that I could think may have triggered this was the change in signatures, but this is a very tenuous link, many people have far more complex sigs. The signature's user talk link not matching my current one perhaps? If this were the case then a simple redirect-check should solve it. —what a crazy random happenstance 03:32, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry, but the tools relies on the User: link found in signatures to determine the user. Because all your past RfA !votes have been signed under your old username, it still attributes them to that username. It's not an easy problem to fix. When I get around to rewriting the code under a new framework, I'm going to also add an option to try to guess username changes. (X! · talk) · @073 · 00:44, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
- No rush; thanks for the tools, by the way! Like I said, I think a check whether the user page linked to from the signature redirects to another user page may be the best way to check for username changes, but I'll leave it to you. —what a crazy random happenstance 15:10, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

can you extent, please, your tool “Pages created” also for other wikis, like your phantastic “Edit counter”? I normally work in the german wiki and so I can't use it.

RfA tallies
Hey, it's nice to see you active again. I am curious how {{rfatally}} works; I did not even know about it until right now because I departed before it was created. I was looking at my older contribs and saw my updates of RfA tallies, and since there is a template for that now, I don't know if I can start updating again. Since you created the template page, I was hoping you would know how that template works. Thanks! Schfifty3 23:03, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
- That template uses a modified version of Tangotango's RFA library to parse out each RfA page. Each time it updates the tallies, it is reparsing the RfA from scratch. In other words, no edit to the {{rfatally}} page will be looked at by the bot; it just regenerates the page from scratch every time. (X! · talk) · @733 · 16:36, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
Copyright question
Hi, I posted this over at Shoemaker's Holiday's talk page, but he appears to be on a leave of absence so I'll ask you instead, as you are also a featured sound director. I'm thinking of uploading some of my files to Wikipedia or Commons, but I'm not sure how they stand with regards to copyright law. In particular I'm wondering if sounds published and copyrighted before 1923 are in the public domain, as it is with print sources. It would make sense that sound recordings be included here as well, but it appears that some lawyers think otherwise, with different provisions for sound recordings such as those stated on this page. What is our practice for uploading pre-1923 sound files? Any help is appreciated. ThemFromSpace 01:48, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
- To be honest, I'm not the best when it comes to copyright. I was under the assumption that sound files were also under those copyright rules, but I could be wrong. You might want to ask at the WP:MCQ. (X! · talk) · @732 · 16:33, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

Archiving mistake?
Hello, and thanks for the reply. I already saw that a bot was updating the User:X!/Tally page, so I guess I no longer have a need to update tallies. :-( Irrelevant to RfA tallies, I noticed in your archive box that January 2008 comes before December 2006. Is this a programming error in ClueBot III that can be fixed, or has it been resolved? Have a great day. Schfifty3 00:14, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

Adminstats
Hi there. I added the adminstats template to my userpage on 4 December, and it hasn't been updated/created yet. Is the bot still doing it, or has another one picked it up? I'm not sure whether adminstatsbot does the runs for individual pages, or if it's just focused on the JamesR page, or if it's unrelated to either!

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Goersuicide.jpg
A tag has been placed on File:Goersuicide.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Tool for Wikipedians in High/scope
I posted a message on Tide rolls (talk · contribs)'s talk page, and I was wondering, if you can make a tool for my school, as for those with a Wikipedia account and the two IPs (202.47.69.212/3) are the ones needed to be watched. I intend to create a group for those interested in becoming a Wikipedian, and when the group is established, I need you to create a tool for the schools administrators, and me (as I have a Twinkle feature), so that we can monitor each IP and account activity during school hours. Huggle is for the world wide use, while the tool I am suggesting is for a limited number of users (those who edit in school). If you are finished with the tool, please give me a script so that I can use the tool. Thanks! Führer der Wikipedia!|DAS WAR EIN BEFEHL! 05:40, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

Soxred93 tools
Thanks for the excellent tools. But even the best can be improved. Can you perhaps further categorise the edits like:
- no of created pages (Since you already have a list of created pages, you'll have no trouble with this one.)
- no of created disambiguation pages
- no of text edits
- no of moves
- no of rediretcs
And one last thing, is it possible to link the no of edit figures from your tool page to personal pages of the users ? Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 16:40, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
- tools:~soxred93/pages - Click "View all" at the bottom, and look at the last number. It's hacky, but it's accurate.

- I'm not sure what text edits is, please explain.
- tools:~soxred93/ec - It's in the log counts section.
- See #1
- If you mean have the counts automatically update, no. You can, however, link directly using [[tools:~soxred93/ec/Example|Edit count]].

- Thank you. Regards.--Cdogsimmons (talk) 17:30, 20 December 2009 (UTC)
In order to proceed with the review, first, let me invite you to revisit your decision to delete this article. Since this discussion was previously wrongly closed early (it was closed before 7 days had passed by User:Sandstein) I don't think this discussion had a full seven days to be discussed before you closed it. Second, there was clearly a disagreement about whether it should have been kept. (1 Strong Keep vote, 2 Keep votes, 5 delete votes in addition to the nomination, and 1 week delete vote). Of course, as you know, deletion of an article is not just a vote, and in the event that there is a doubt, the article should be kept. (See number 4 at Wikipedia:Deletion_guidelines_for_administrators#Deciding_whether_to_delete. Third, it was clear that 3 of the delete votes based their opinion on the idea that no 3rd party independent sources existed, something that was clearly not true). Fourth, the nominator, User:LibStar, as much as admitted that he had not done a thorough search for sources, despite the fact that the absence of sources was the reason he nominated the article for deletion. He disputed that he needed to do so, despite the fact that WP:GNG clearly says a good faith search for sources is necessary before nomination. Finally, as a matter of policy, the deletion of the information in this article does not serve Wikipedia's general goal of being a summary of all human knowledge. Notability in this situation should really be secondary to the fact that this information is clearly encyclopedic.--Cdogsimmons (talk) 17:30, 20 December 2009 (UTC)
- I am aware that AfD is not headcounting. I have evaluated the different comments again multiple times, and I have decided to retain my original decision to delete. The point of AfD is not to decide whether or not diplomatic relations exist, but rather to decide whether or not they are notable. While the sources verify that they exist, there is not enough evidence that there is significant relations between them. (X! · talk) · @784 · 17:49, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

Nicely done
Thank you for that elegant move in keeping with the grace of the season.
I will gaze and smile at Wikipedia:Thou shalt not block for being mocked

- Heh, I'll contest the hell out of it. Then userfy it. To be fair, it's WP:MFD, as well. Happy holidays. :) (X! · talk) · @155 · 02:43, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
- lol, yes, "MfD" (had last "super-exciting" AfD in mind... But recent ANI adversary put up one of my sandboxes for MfD, so I should remember. :-) Again, bless you. Good show. Well done. Hip hip hurray! (Something to remember.) Proofreader77 (talk) 03:00, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
- PS Drive-by comment which dropped in out of the blue amidst heavy BLP/NPOV contention on an article talk page (over a POV-section tag, lol). That comment and your essay go together on my shelf of Wikipedia delights. (No reply necessary) Proofreader77 (talk) 03:52, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

SoxBot should clean out the tutorial and template sandboxes
I don't know what's going on, but SoxBot doesn't seem to be cleaning out the template or tutorial sandboxes. I had to make this set of edits to clean them up in the middle of the night my time, because Ben 28920 (talk · contribs) had decided to turn them all into redirects to the Blu-ray Disc article. ClueBot II, who normally seems to do this job, hasn't edited for a while. Also, Wikipedia:Tutorial (External links)/sandbox is now Wikipedia:Tutorial (Citing sources)/sandbox. Thanks. Merry Christmas!!
Once again it is festive season, a time where festive decorations are displayed and gifts are swapped; but what about the true meaning of christmas? The true meaning of christmas is about the fight for freedom and how in times of hardship and misery, one person leads their people to freedom as a great warrior; for those who fight for a cause are warriors and those who fight for a worthy cause are great warriors. Such an act earns respect and honour; but most importantly, brings happiness to their people. So to achieve this as happiness lies in other people's happiness and greatness lies in how you deal with little people, we selflessly think of others in the hope that they will be happy this christmas.
Hi X!/Archives/12, have a very Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year 2010!

Merry Christmas!

Recent additions tool
No clue where to put this, ut seeing your pantheon of tools on the toolserver, decided to ask here. It's a tool request, really. Would it be possible to create a tool that can search Wikipedia:Recent additions for articles that have specific project banners on their talk page?
Meaning, go to tool, type in banner (for example, {{Volcano}}), and it generates a list of a DYKs related to volcanoes. This would be useful just to learn some things, but also, if you are making a Portal and want to add a DYK section, you don't have to go through each and every hook at Recent additions and that's unimaginably tedious. I realize this is not the place for such a query, but I've no clue where else...ResMar 22:17, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
BioBlu 27
Thanks for the speedy. I had to leave it with just the copy vio tag and the AfD because the AfD had already been started by someone else. But considering the first part was a straight copy paste, speedy was the best course overall. --IP69.226.103.13 (talk) 19:14, 28 December 2009 (UTC)

Bug in RFA !votes tool
Hi there X!. I like the way that the RFA !votes tool now adds a "successful" to those requests that were successful. I wonder though what method the script uses to determine whether a request was successful - for example, when checking my !votes, it will mark Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Drilnoth as successful but not Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Chamal N even though they are both in Category:Successful requests for adminship. Could you take a look at this if you got a minute? Regards SoWhy 12:55, 29 December 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, I've been trying to debug that for a couple of days now. Thanks! (X! · talk) · @700 · 15:48, 29 December 2009 (UTC)

igloo
Hi X!, and thanks for your interest in igloo. Before using the program, please read the following information carefully - failure to do so may result in your test access being revoked.
igloo is a JavaScript-powered, browser-based anti-vandalism tool, which means you do not have to download or install anything on your computer and it will work on multiple operating systems. However, it does mean that the performance relies on that of your browser and it may operate more slowly than downloaded programs. You must have either Mozilla Firefox 3+ or Google Chrome to use igloo, as it is currently incompatible with other browsers.
igloo relies on a system called iglooNet to assist you in finding and reverting vandalism. It is this system that transforms the program from a pretty version of recent changes to an actual anti-vandalism tool. Naturally, this is beyond the power of a client-side program, and igloo will regularly communicate with an external, non-Wikimedia server. Because of things like server logs, and the iglooNet abuse tracker, this may allow your IP address to be attached to your username - something which is otherwise impossible on Wikipedia. If you do not want this to happen, you MUST NOT USE IGLOO.
If you decide that you do want to test igloo, please keep in mind that it not wholly stable, and you may experience problems where it performs an invalid edit, or other unwanted action. If this happens, fix any mistakes you've made, apologise to anyone you've offended, and let me know. I don't take any responsibility for your use of the program - if you aren't willing to fix any errors, don't use it.
igloo is already quite powerful. The following is a simple guide to using the program:
- The igloo interface is similar to that of other software, including huggle. Recent changes appear on the left, and diffs appear on the right.
- igloo sorts diffs based on iglooNet data so that edits most likely to be vandalism are displayed first. You can press spacebar to view the top diff, or click on any diff to view it directly.
- When you find vandalism, press 'Q' or click the revert button to revert the change, and issue a warning to the user. igloo automatically issues the correct warning. It will ignore existing warnings that are more than 5 days old, and restart from the beginning.
- The iglooNet assertion system tags clean and dirty edits with colour coding - if it suspects an edit is vandalism, it will be flagged as red, and if it believes it to be clean, it will tag it green.
- At any time, you can re-review diffs you have already seen by pressing backspace or using the icons to move through the diff history.
If you have any questions, comments, suggestions or other feedback, I'd love to know. If you hate it, and won't be using it again, please let me know why - and I'll remove you from the test whitelist. If you now try and use igloo, you should find that it will allow you to use the program. Thanks, and good luck! Ale_Jrbtalk 10:41, 30 December 2009 (UTC)
