[edit]I have reverted some of your edits. If you look at Template:Infobox school, you will see that "nickname" refers to the Athletic nickname, typically at the university level. "Team_name" is more appropriate in most cases. Also, no need to link common words, such as "Irish", per MOS:OL. Could you please go back and review your edits to be sure you are making correct edits. Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 09:19, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
- Hi @Magnolia677, thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it. I'm glad to have those resources you pointed me to.
- I'm curious why "team_name" is more appropriate than "nickname" for high schools. The article you linked to indicates that nicknames have been extended to the secondary level in the United States and Canada, which is where the schools in question are. Is there some other documentation I missed?
- Thanks again.

- I didn't look through all your edits, and not all of them had errors, but lots did. For example, I just randomly picked this edit to Buhach Colony High School, where you added that their nickname was "Thunder". Where in the article does it say this? Did you just assume that because their team name is "Buhach Colony Thunder", that their nickname would naturally be "Thunder"? Magnolia677 (talk) 09:35, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks again @Magnolia677.
where you added that their nickname was "Thunder". Where in the article does it say this? Did you just assume that because their team name is "Buhach Colony Thunder", that their nickname would naturally be "Thunder"?
- I based that off of the school website that used simply "Thunder" in both "athletic". and "non-athletic". contexts. Should I have cited them? Is one citation sufficient, or would I need more than one?
- Would you mind responding to my initial question of why "team_name" is more appropriate than "nickname" for high schools? If it wasn't a blanket statement, it would be helpful to me to understand when one applies vs. the other.
- As you can probably tell, I'm having trouble distinguishing the two in my mind. Is a nickname applicable to all students, staff, and even alumni, while a team name applies to the teams per se (rather than the players who are presumably students and can therefore be labeled by the nickname)?
- I think I have a handle on mascot: it is often (but not always) a named instance of the nickname. E.g., one could imagine a nickname of "Tigers" and a mascot of "Tony the Tiger." If the teams went by "Tigers," then I would probably omit the team name. But if, instead, they went by "Bengal Fever," I'd probably indicate the distinction. Is any of this making sense? I'm a n00b, so thank you for indulging me.
- I've also started the Adventure Game you recommended. Great stuff! Wzph (talk) 18:42, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- "Should I have cited them?" Yes. Otherwise it is original research. Use whatever parameter you want, just please source your edits. Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 22:20, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
