I have made a note of some URLs that you have been spamming, so that I can check from time to time whether they have come back. If they do keep coming back, they can be added to the spam blacklist, which will mean the MediaWiki software will block any attempt by anyone to post those URLs anywhere on Wikipedia. However, I hope you won't choose to make that necessary, because every new URL added tovthe spam blacklist add just a little time to the checking of every edit, leading to gradual slowing down of Wikipedia editing. @ThaddeusSholto: As a matter of fact, after posting my messages above I checked to see whether the URLs in question are in any other articles, and I found a whole lot more links to works by the same person. I found that a number of them had been posted by a single-purpose IP editor, who also removed a lot of other, valid, references to sources other than that author. Clearly this needs further investigation, but I left it until I am on a computer, because at present I'm on my phone, and doing the amount of checking that this needs is too fiddly. Thank you for filing the sockpuppet investigation, which provides further relevant information that I didn't know about. JBW (talk) 17:48, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@JBW: The only IP I found is 147.96.128.92 who seemed to know exactly which articles to find to update URLs and add new references. It is difficult as there have been so many accounts and likely IPs over the years. ThaddeusSholto (talk) 18:01, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
