Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Dates and numbers

[edit]

Hello Wirlwhind,

As a fellow editor I've come to notify you about your edits to Zygmunt Zaleski, Chindasuinth and Landry of Paris.

Wikipedia has specific guidelines on where a date format should be changed in an article, and I quote:

"The Arbitration Committee has ruled that editors should not change an article from one guideline-defined style to another without a substantial reason unrelated to mere choice of style, and that revert-warring over optional styles is unacceptable." (WP:MOSNUM)

I will not revert your edits to avoid and edit war but to help you in the future I will post here the table of approved date formats from WP:MOSNUM:

Acceptable date formats
General use Only where brevity is helpful
(refs, tables, infoboxes, etc.)
Comments
2 August 2001 2 Aug 2001
August 2, 2001 Aug 2, 2001 A comma follows the year unless followed by other punctuation:
  • The weather on March 12, 2005, was clear and warm
  • Everyone remembers July 21, 1969 – when man first landed on the Moon
2 August 2 Aug Omit year only where there is no risk of ambiguity:
  • The 2012 London Olympics ran from 25 July to 12 August
  • January 1 is New Year's Day
August 2 Aug 2
No equivalent for general use 2001-08-02 Use yyyy-mm-dd format only with Gregorian dates from 1583 onward.
August 2001 Aug 2001

Any other date format not on this table should be replaced with one of the formats above.

User:Wirlwhind I haven't linked your use beforehand so I'll assume you haven't seen my message. I'm contacting you again about these edits you made in the following articles:
Stakliškės - After reforms of the Great Sejm, on January 16, 1792 → After reforms of the Great Sejm, on 16 January 1792 & Presidential decree on December 18, 1997. → Presidential decree on 18 December 1997.
Kornel Morawiecki - born May 3, 1941, → born 3 May 1941, & At the end of May, 1982, → At the end of May 1982,
Jan Želivský - On July 30, 1419, → On 30 July 1419, & On March 9, 1422, → On 9 March 1422,
Killalady - January 25, 2011 → 25 January 2011
Här står jag - June 13, 2007 → 13 June 2007
These edits do not have any substantial reason besides style as they neither promote date format uniformity or change unacceptable date formats.
I'm urging you to stop making these edits as they both are not adding anything to the article, and are against Wikipedia policy WP:MOSNUM,
Thank you for reading my message, I wish you the best of luck as an editor on Wikipedia -FlagFlayer 22:34, 31 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
