From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Willy turner may not be sufficiently well-known to merit articles of their own. The Wikipedia community welcomes newcomers, and encourages them to become Wikipedians. On Wikipedia, each user is entitled to a user page in which they can describe themselves, and this article's content may be incorporated into that page. However, to merit inclusion in the encyclopedia proper, a subject must be notable. We encourage you to write or improve articles on notable subjects. --W.marsh 23:14, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I just moved it to your user page, at User:Willy turner. Biographies in the main article space need to comply with the WP:BIO guideline, while on your user page you can basically write about yourself however you want. So there's no problem with what you wrote, you just put it in slightly the wrong place, so I fixed it. --W.marsh 23:23, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It's somewhat of a complicated issue, but most people feel that Wikipedia is only for writing about topics that have been covered somewhere else, e.g. in newspaper articles, books, etc. Otherwise there's really no way for us to realistically check whether what you're writing about is true. See WP:BIO, that defines what biographical articles are about on Wikipedia. The idea that you can write about absolutely anything is not really correct, sorry. --W.marsh 23:31, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Population of Isiro, DRC

[edit]

Willy, I saw that you added the information that Isiro (in Democratic Republic of Congo) has a population of 81,000. Could you add a reference to the article showing where you got this information? Or tell me and I'll add it. Thanks. Dblomgren 05:56, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Adygea

[edit]

Hi! I had to revert your edit to Adygea (formatting the population number in the infobox) because this number is used further down to calculate population density. Formatted numbers cause the density calculation to error out.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 02:42, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Südweststadion

[edit]

Hi Willy turner. First: Sorry for my bad English! Now my quastion: Why you remoted Südweststadion from this list? There is definite a capacity of 41,383. Look just on the homepage of the city Ludwigshafen. "Fassungsvermögen" means "capacity". In the stadium plays FSV Oggersheim (German Oberliga) ([1]). It wasn't just a joke, but a usefull addition. --Kuemmjen 22:09, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I can understand, that Olympiastadion München is remoted, because it's still unused. --Kuemmjen 22:12, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I added Südweststadion again. There is definite a capacity of 41,383. I asked the Club, too. --Kuemmjen 10:41, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Helicopters template

[edit]

Good work. I made a comment in the template talk about the inclusion of the AH-1, which I think is debatable. Can you also fix the capitalisation? I amended the template, and it might be easier to transclude the template than to copy-and-paste it into the articles. --Guinnog 06:34, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

{{Modern Attack Helicopters}} should do it. --Guinnog 06:45, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have fixed the noinclude (I'm not 100% sure why you were using it in the template to begin with) in the template. And have included the template in the helicopter articles. You might want to do the same thing for the SSBN template you are now working on. Megapixie 07:47, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

CVN and Typhoon infoboxes

[edit]

Good job adding the "currently in use" information to the various CVN and Typhoon articles. But that probably needs to be in a template, and not on each individual article like here and here. This way, any maintenance only has to be done in one spot, instead of many articles. Also, stop in over on Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history, there are probably editors there who can help with any template questions you have. Notability of Alistair McConnachie

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Alistair McConnachie, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you feel that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this.

Hi, I added it because he meets none of the other notability guidlines for inclusion in wikipedia. The other small party leaders that are included (and there are only two or three of them) are notable as a result of being elected to the Scottish Parliament or have gained notability from some other activity. If you feel that there is some notable reason to keep Mr McConnachie's article please detail them on my talk page. Ta.GiollaUidir 23:53, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

hi. please explain why you added notability tag to Alistair McConnachie article. There are articles on the leaders of other very small scottish political parties. Please explain why he is significantly less notable than them. thanks.

Other than nominating himself for election he has done nothing of note. Robin Harper, Tommy Sheridan and Colin Fox are leaders of small parties that have been very much in the public eye over the past 4-8years. Plus, the onus is not to show his relative notability to other politicians-the onus is to prove that he has done enough of note to deserve his own article.GiollaUidir 00:13, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In reply to comment on my talk page: Oops, sorry, missed that earlier. The only thing I can recommend would be to have the page semi-protected at WP:RPP. If someone's really dedicated to editing an article even when they've been told they're doing it wrong several times, the only ways to stop them are a civil discussion, protection, or a block. Since the discussion isn't working so well, that leaves us with the last two. Hersfold (talk/work) 21:59, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Willy. I just want to point out that the template "border" was created to improve the looking of certain images of white background, to help these images to be noticable different from the page background. This is the case of the Flag of Japan. Look the difference:

Without the border, the flags seems to be just a red circle, not the actual flag of Japan. That's why I added back the border template in the article regional power. Thank you. AlexCovarrubias ( Talk? ) 07:41, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Willy. I wasn't aware about the position problem, and it is because it doesn't affect Internet Explorer. I opened the article with Firefox and then, I was able to see what you mentioned. I'm not sure how we can fix it, but I think there's some bordered versions of the Flag of Japan. Thanks! AlexCovarrubias ( Talk? ) 00:21, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again Willy. Your changes in the Brazil section were reverted by Limongi. I tried to help by reverting to your version, but he reverted again. See what I mean? They are only using boosterism practices to "talk up" Brazil. AlexCovarrubias ( Talk? ) 17:10, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your American military uniform question.

[edit]

You asked about U.S. Marines and soldiers wearing the American flag patch on their sleeve. U.S. Marines do not wear this patch; the only sewn-on adornments on any uniforms are name and service tapes, velcro patches for IR tags, and enlisted rank insignia on service and dress uniforms. The Army wears the flag with the stars and stripes on the upper right of the flag because the stars always are at the side of the flag touching the flagpole and, as soldiers are walking forward, it gives the flag the appearance of moving forward with them as though it were on a flagpole. Why they don't just put it on the left is beyond me, but the flag on the right shoulder is the way they've done it for longer than I've been around and is probably the way it will continue to be done for quite some time. If this did not adequately answer your question or you have any others, feel free to message me back on my talk page and I will be more than happy to answer your question or direct you to an article on Wikipedia that can. Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Mearns Castle High School, by SteelersFan UK06 (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Mearns Castle High School fits the criteria for speedy deletion for the following reason:

fails second sentence of WP:N - The topic of an article should be notable, or "worthy of notice"

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Mearns Castle High School, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Mearns Castle High School itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 16:50, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong Tag

[edit]

The above bot contacted you regarding the speedy delete tag i placed on Mearns Castle High School. As I have since realised, I placed the incorrect tag on the article - it should have been prod'd. Please accept my appologies, you should have received this:

Mearns Castle High School

[edit]

A "{{prod}}" template has been added to the article Mearns Castle High School, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Image:40841669_livstadium_inside203.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:40841669_livstadium_inside203.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MER-C 06:20, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Gest estadio olimpico.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Gest estadio olimpico.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 21:16, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your addition to Alligator

[edit]

Hi! I noticed you recently added a fact to Alligator, complete with a reference and everything. However, I'm not sure if its a very useful statement. What size of alligator has this bite force? What size of truck falling how far down a cliff is the bite force being compared to? Does the alligator have the entire force of a falling truck in one square inch of its bite? Does your average truck have the same force per square inch as an average alligator bite? As you can see, the statement you added to the article isn't very specific. Please improve it using the source you got it from, or remove the fact. Alligator needs a lot of work, though, so if you're interested in contributing to the article, please continue to do so! Please use edit summaries

[edit]

Hello. Please be courteous to other editors and use edit summaries when updating articles. The Mathbot tool shows your usage of edit summaries to be extremely low:

Edit summary usage for Willy turner: 15% for major edits and 80% for minor edits. Based on the last 150 major and 5 minor edits in the article namespace.

Using edit summaries helps other editors quickly understand your edits, which is especially useful when you make changes to articles that are on others' watchlists. Thanks and happy editing! --Kralizec! (talk) 11:58, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Besides this link, I think Italy should be included as a Regional Power, based on the definition itself and by comparing it with other lesser powers that are considered Regional. Italy is part of the Contact Group for Kososvo, along France, USA, UK, Russia and Germany. It has regional influence in the balkans, note that Greece or Turkey are not on this group and are close to Kosovo too. If it wasn't a reginal power, Italy wouldn't be included.
Italy is also founder member of Central Europe Initiative and leader of that group. It has considerable influence in countries like Poland, which is closer to Germany, even in germanic Austria, Italy has great influence. Slovenian Air defence is done by Italy, Russia's third biggest partner is Italy, and so on.... It isn't a Regional Power?

Alistair McConnachie

[edit]

A Proposed Deletion template has been added to the article Alistair McConnachie, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of the page. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Olympic Stadium Wroclaw.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Olympic Stadium Wroclaw.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Direct democracy userbox

[edit]

I haven't edited it, because it's in your own userspace and I could be wrong, but I assume that the Direct democracy userbox links to the wrong article. Thanks for uploading Image:B stadium 03.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

[edit]

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Should indoor velodromes be counted as indoor arenas?

[edit]

It all depends on the size of the velodrome. Usually, indoor arenas are built for basketball and ice hockey and are much smaller than stadiums. If the velodrome is smaller than a regulation football pitch, I would say yes. However if it isn't, it gets more difficult. It's not really a stadium. I suppose we could call it an indoor arena, but larger domed stadiums could be said to be indoor arenas. Patken4 (talk) 22:13, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I guess it could. It's border line, but some of the photos I've seen make it look like it's smaller than a football pitch. Thanks! Patken4 (talk) 22:47, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Walvis Ridge

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Walvis Ridge requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Elizabeth Cady Stanton

[edit]

I noticed your recent edit: WikiProject Politics|class=A|importance=low. LOW? LOW? Obviously your view of the American 19th century efforts to win civil rights for both women and blacks greatly differs from mine. This is an excellent example of why I oppose all efforts to rank articles. WBardwin (talk) 01:15, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

yikes -- WBardwin, this isn't a reason to oppose ranking articles -- it's a reason to get involved in the process! When I see a ranking, I take it to mean, "If I were to raise an issue with this article at the WikiProject, how quickly would the members rush to address it?" It's not a measure of true "importance," but a measure of "relevance" or "interest" (to the community).
When you see a tragedy like this, find a more relevant wikiproject -- e.g. Wikipedia:WikiProject Human rights -- to rank it "top" in. (or fix it yourself -- as I just did for you)
Sorry to sound condescending. I just care deeply about the ranking endeavour so I get preachy at times.
Willy turner, thanks for letting me squat on your talk page. Agradman talk/contribs 17:47, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have been uneasy about Wikipedia ranking since I first noticed the effort some years back. My time as an organization auditor taught me that some tasks may simply be "wasted" effort. Rankings are soooooo entirely subjective, are based solely on the opinion of the group (always very small compared to Wiki editor totals) of interested reviewers, and have no underlying reliability as a measurement. (Reminds me of some academic conferences!) Comparing rankings between various Wiki projects is also impossible. I think the featured article system, both as it presently exists and with improvements/refinements, could be a better way of selecting article importance and identifying good encyclopedia work. Sorry, Willy turner, to hi-jack your talk page for a philosophical argument. Best wishes to you both. WBardwin (talk) 05:05, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm glad to see you've updated the "importance" tags at Roe v. Wade. Would you mind if I promoted its importance for WP:LAW to "top"? ... because Roe v. Wade is one of the most "famous"/"infamous" cases around, and every American knows its name, even if s/he can't name any other case. As a member of WP:LAW I think of it as the "ambassador" of our project to the non-legal world.

Page-moves

[edit]

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting it into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is needed for attribution and various other purposes. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other articles that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. Reassessments

[edit]

Hello, Willy turner. I noticed that some days ago, you had reassessed several politics-related articles falling within WP:SWEDEN, by knocking them down 1-3 steps on the assessment scale. While some of the B-class articles were not quite up to my understanding of B-class, I think you assessed the articles 1-2 steps too low, and I base that on experience from assessments in several projects. Please refer to this scale and notice that even C-class articles can have significant deficiencies. For example, assessing articles as "stub-class" is really saying that it has almost no content at all, and definitely none of any value. I'm not going to take the line "don't reassess articles if you're not a member of a project" (because in most cases articles can be assessed/reassessed for quality for a all projects at once), but I would ask you not to apply the quality scale in a very different way from how project members do. I wouldn't have bothered with this comment if it was just one or two borderline cases (start/C or C/B), but you seem to be systematically too low. Please notice that due to bot assessment, there are a lot of stub-classed-marked articles out there which are above the definition of stub-class, and a lot of start-class articles that have never been reconsidered for C-class since the introduction of that level. But I would also like to say that it general, it is very commendable of you to add project tags and to assess articles - there is a lot of this work that still (or always) needs to be done! Regards, Tomas e (talk) 12:03, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am very surprised at your importance rating edit for this article. The depth and breadth of importance of this topic (if not the current state of the article) make it at least as significant as many of those listed at . It is the foundation of the modern British system, a major factor in the cause of the American Revolution, and has therefore had worldwide influences that are still felt today. Replaceable fair use File:12439 file.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:12439 file.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. Hello Willy turner! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 2 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 139 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

  1. Francesco D'Aniello - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL
  2. Maan Al-Sanea - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Next time when you provide information for a director's work on a video, try researching the said project they did, instead of providing inaccurate information. If you bothered to even check the article for the video, you would see he directed the Spears video in November 1999(aired in 12/1999), NOT 2000. It greatly helps when editors cover all their bases in submissions instead of carelessly adding incorrect things without checking their validity first.Carmaker1 (talk) 21:21, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are now a Reviewer

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 20:11, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

List of stadiums by capacity

[edit]

I don't think I'm getting my point across correctly on the List of stadiums by capacity talk page. I'm not purposely trying to provoke you or be a muppet or a dick or anything else. I'm trying to set precedence for editors who are going to update their favorite stadium's new attendance record whenever it is set, that this has already been discussed and a conclusion by consensus reached. I agree with what you've done/said, but some users are going to do what they want, no matter what it does to the project. People are going to ignore any statement saying record attendance should not be included. Every weekend, we're going to have to revert their changes, to the point of frustration. I know, because all last fall I spent reverting user's changes whenever a stadium set a new record. A particularly determined user may even try to point out that record attendance is the same thing as the maximum number of people a stadium can hold. I just don't want to repeat last fall and all the changes I had to make. Thanks! Patken4 (talk) 00:15, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Good luck on the degree! There are currently 66 people that have the page on their watchlist, so hopefully more people will be willing to help. Some people who make the change won't come back after it's been reverted, some will. I guess it's just something that will have to be dealt with as long as anonymous users can make changes. There is List of NCAA Division I FBS football stadiums that does have a column for record attendances, so I think that can suffice.

As for your question of how a stadium can hold more people than is safe is simply down to Standing-room only, a mostly American/Canadian concept. Behind the last row of most sections, stadiums will have room for one or two rows of people who are willing to stand to watch the game. I have watched several games from this vantage point in my life. I have been to Michigan Stadium, in fact. It's been several years, but I think I remember a row of people behind the last row of the main section. This is different than standing sections, like in Germany, where seats are taken out and spectators allowed to stand the whole time, despite what the SRO article says. SRO is really a row or two behind the last row of seats. I've been to a couple stadiums in England, but never saw anything like a standing row at the stadium, even though the concept might work. Most SRO places only add about 1,000-2,000 people to the attendance. Cowboys Stadium is an extreme example, and can probably better be described as a glorified bar area inside the stadium (it's in fact called a party deck by the Cowboys). Of the 30,000 tickets available, only a couple thousand of that figure could actually see the game. The rest would have to watch tv monitors to know what's going on. When the capacity of a stadium is quoted for American/Canadian stadiums, they really mean the seating capacity, or how many seats are in the stadium. I don't think I've seen a SRO capacity quoted for a venue. This explains why you can have more people in the stadium than there are seats.

I actually go to Skyscrapers.com to see if there any new stadiums where construction has started. I then usually use a Google search to find more information, but it has been pretty good in the past. Thanks! Patken4 (talk) 01:59, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion, guidelines for use at WP:MINOR). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and all users will still be able to manually mark their edits as being minor in the usual way.

For well-established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 20:26, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Singa Mwambe has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No WP:SIGCOV located on a search. Kept finding stuff about an orchestra, and even when I added "Linafoot" I got nothing but WP mirrors.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ♠PMC(talk) 04:50, 17 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Naughty America logo-en.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Naughty America logo-en.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 09:00, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
