Misapplying CSD U1?

02:00, 26 October 2009 Willking1979 (talk | contribs) deleted "User talk:Zachareth" ‎ (Speedy deleted per CSD U1, was a user page whose user requested deletion. using TW)

According to your log, you deleted User talk:Zachareth and justified that by reference to Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#U1. However that rule says "... (but not user talk pages) ..." unless there was a Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion. You did not cite a Mfd. So it appears to me that you misapplied CSD U1. JRSpriggs (talk) 06:34, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

My bad...it was a honest mistake and I sincerely apologize. I should not have it deleted it as U1. However, the user also misapplied that guideline as well by simply tagging it as such. I understand he was a new user, but he should clearly understand Wikipedia's policies as well. Willking1979 (talk) 10:40, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
OK. I accept your apology. Thank you for being so reasonable about it. JRSpriggs (talk) 08:47, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the delete.

I appreciate it.- Sinneed 22:37, 30 October 2009 (UTC)

Hey

Hello,

I'd like to ask you if you could allow me to make some changes on the Made of Hate's entry. I made some important changes on informations including line-up, hisotry and releases. I deleted previous members section because as made of hate there were no ex-members. same thing about connecting the band to archeon. archeon need to have a different entry. it's diefferent band :)

take care, CR —Preceding unsigned comment added by Crankeinstein (talkcontribs) 17:27, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

You can add those changes as long as they are from a reliable source and are referenced. In addition, I suggest you discuss any changes on the band's talk page. I am not an expert on that particular band, but I am sure others are aware of the group. Also, I notice that you tried to add a Photobucket picture in the article. We do not embed Photobucket links on Wikipedia articles. That means you must upload those images yourself as long as they follow Wikipedia's guidelines. Thanks, Willking1979 (talk) 17:39, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

Hey there

Thank you for your phenomenal work on CSD lately. I'd just like to note that, while removing backlinks to speedied articles is often useful, it can sometimes be more trouble than it's worth. Actelion is the sort of redlink that should be kept per WP:REDDEAL—the subject of the article meets WP:CORP by a mile, and someone should really create a decent article (and it's probably just a matter of time before someone does). After removing backlinks to quite a few worthy articles by accident, I've actually taken to disabling this option in the Twinkle window by default. Not saying you should—just saying it's worth a second look :) Best, Fvasconcellos (t·c) 12:25, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, Fvasconcellos for your useful comments. I noticed yesterday after deleting an article, Twinkle even removed a red link from a fully-protected article. Perhaps the Twinkle devs should examine the backlink issue in depth. However, I will consider disabling the backlink removal function myself. Willking1979 (talk) 13:02, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

Speedily deleted article still exists?

Hi. I tagged Anthony doCurral for speedy deletion. According to the deletion log and my watchlist you deleted it. However, the article is still there (not recreated). ??? -NatureBoyMD (talk) 02:57, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

It has been recreated by the same user that created it earlier. I'll take a look at it. Willking1979 (talk) 02:59, 2 November 2009 (UTC)
Update: Just re-deleted the article. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Willking1979 (talk) 03:01, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

Seventeen zones

Hey I'm just curious, Seventeen zones was wikilinked from Transport in India, a GA on my watchlist. I don't want the page userfied or anything, can you just let me know what was on the page? --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 12:21, 8 November 2009 (UTC)

It was a list/table of the 17 railway zones in India, along with their abbreviations, dates of establishment, and headquarters. Willking1979 (talk) 12:30, 8 November 2009 (UTC)

Check this out

What do you think about this? I've noticed several marginally notable (at best) related articles popping up lately. See Dan Lashley, Communication Breakdown (film), Richard O'Sullivan (film maker), and Lost Colony Entertainment. Also related to these are Michael Sandefer and My Perfect Apathy, both of which were deleted as non-notable. The user who created the Sandefer article admitted on my talk page that he was the subject of the article and apparently had a vigorous exchange with another user about his "right" to be on Wikipedia. The Lashley article has already been tagged with notability concerns, and Lost Colony Entertainment was recently created by a user named LostColony, who has already been warned for WP:COPYVIO. I'm thinking there might be multiple policy issues and/or needed deletions here, so I'm just calling it to your attention to investigate. I try to stick to writing articles unless I run across easy policy calls. Act or abstain from action at your discretion. Thanks. Acdixon (talk contribs count) 16:09, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

I just issued a COI notice to Lostcolony (talk · contribs). It could also be a username violation as well. On the articles, there are refs and external links, but I wonder how reliable these sources are. I also wonder what my other talk page watcher/stalkers think about this. FREEOP

Thanks for the block of FREEOP (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log); don't you need to block his IP 62.42.124.41 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) as well, since the latest spamming was not logged in? Dicklyon (talk) 17:37, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

Just blocked the IP 55 hours for block evasion. I also tagged the ISP's name onto the talk page as well. Further spamming by the IP will result in much longer blocks. Willking1979 (talk) 17:43, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
I don't think it was block evasion, as the last edit was before your block of FREEOP (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log), wasn't it? But it was spamming as a sock, after final warning. Dicklyon (talk) 21:03, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
The last edit (0802 UTC today, November 9) was definitely block evasion. However, based on the edits, I should have specified the reasons as both abusing multiple accounts and block evasion. Willking1979 (talk) 21:14, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

86.171.175.122

Hello, I was wondering what to do about this IP. He's a long term edit warrior (http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Special:Contributions/86.156.244.2, http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Special:Contributions/86.148.111.28, and plenty of others) and I was scratching my head over who to report him to. His edits aren't technically vandalism, so I don't think AIV applies. Advice appreciated. Geoff B (talk) 20:44, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Based on the two links provided, the IPs have not edited since August. If the IPs start editing again, report it to AIV or the edit warring noticeboard. Thanks, Willking1979 (talk) 20:57, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Blackfire article

Hi William, I am the author of the article on Blackfire Exploration you just deleted. I do not agree that my article serves the sole purpose of disparaging the company. Even though it is a reaction to the murder of Mariano, the article is not disparaging. I give some information on the company and its operations, before mentioning the fact which I know the company for and probably many other people. Instead of killing the article, I would suggest that you improve it with some additional information on the company which can easily be found on the internet (or their own homepage). Of course that is more work than speed-deleting it, but after all, that's what wikipedia is for.

cheers,

Kjell--Kjell.kuehne (talk) 02:24, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

The reason I deleted it is that it had potentially disparaging information regarding a living person. Wikipedia's policy on biographies of living persons prohibits this type of info. Any of my talkpage watchers, do you have an opinion about this? Willking1979 (talk) 02:37, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
Also, I wish to add that the article, if written, must have reliable third-party sources and meets the notability standards for businesses. Willking1979 (talk) 02:42, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

The article is about a company, not a person. That Mariano Abarca has been killed is a very sad fact, but that he was fighting against mining in his community is not at all disparaging, but rather a thing worth to remember about him. Thanks for the hint anyway, I will right now create an article about Mariano! And as for Blackfire, at least here in Chiapas they are a very notable company, one of the biggest mining companies operating in the state, one of the few with open-sky operations. Cheers. --Kjell.kuehne (talk) 02:56, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, I am going to bed now. Here are a few links for improving the article by adding content: http://www.rightsaction.org/articles/mining_chiapas_021409.htm http://www.indmin.com/SearchResults.aspx?Keywords=Blackfire%20Exploration&RequiredFields=PUBLICATION_ID:696 http://upsidedownworld.org/main/content/view/2157/1/ http://mexfiles.net/category/provincia/chiapas/

If you don't want to work on it, you can just include them under "Further reading"

Good night. --Kjell.kuehne (talk) 03:12, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

Just added the links to the article. The article needs expansion, so if any of my watchers/stalkers are viewing this, you can help by expanding the article. Willking1979 (talk) 03:24, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
The links were meant for the Blackfire article! Could you please restore that one? I guess the points that you mentioned ("notability" and "third party information") are covered or ("disparaging living persons") have been clarified. Cheers,--Kjell.kuehne (talk) 01:48, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
I got confused between the two articles and I apologize. The links have been transferred to the restored Blackfire article. I have placed a "see also" section and a stub template to the Mariano Abarca article. Willking1979 (talk) 01:57, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

Wikicup

Was all set to enter the Wikicup using the flag of Kentucky, but noticed you'd already snatched it. Boo! LOL. Just kidding of course. On a serious note, do you think it would be a breach of etiquette to enter under the CSA flag? I don't want anyone to think I'm making some kind of racial statement. I'm not like that. I just support a "Heritage not hate" interpretation of the flag, and I did, after all, secure the promotion of Confederate government of Kentucky to featured topic. Acdixon (talk contribs count) 17:01, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

I am not sure if it is a breach of etiquette or not. I wish you well in Wikicup 2010 if you decide to enter. :) Willking1979 (talk) 17:20, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
While I don't have a problem with it, and can't see why anyone else would either, prepare for the comparisons between the Confederate flag and the flag of Hitler's Germany. @Kate (talk) 17:26, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

Dear sir, why did you ban me?

I made a single comment to one users page in order to make him stop editing mine. Try looking at the log and you can see they(user Keegscee and user Keegscee) have vandalised my userpage countless of times. They have repeatedly deleted and edited it. Why didn't you ban them? They started attacking me and I kindly asked them to stop. I have not deleted or vandalised anything at their userpages, yet they have done so extensively to mine(look at the log). You should have banned them as well. Are you a friend of these two users? It's not fair to bully a newbie off wikipedia like this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.59.125.0 (talk) 01:38, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

With that comment, you, User:93.161.107.169 (the sockmaster), are simply evading your block. Your original comment did not comply with the guidelines of WP:TALK. After that you began a smearing and forum-shopping campaign. That is the reason why I blocked you. When your block expires, please contribute constructively. undelete request

Hi, Will. You deleted most of my user space per my {{db-u1}} requests on Nov 25. I see them here.

I would like those pages undeleted, please. I'm sorry for the fuss; there has been much wiki-drama in the last week. Some of my pages were deleted by User:Athaenara here and I will posting a similar request, there.

My intent is to get back everything in Special:DeletedContributions/Jack Merridew concerning my user space for that day. If yet someone else handled deleting something here, I'd like that, too.

I'm going to blank User:Jack Merridew as I'm after the restoration of the page histories and once all is back I will take the pages somewhere I've not quite determined.

Cheers, Jack Merridew 09:53, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Done. I restored the edits, except for the U1 tags. I also restored what Athaenara has deleted there...hopefully she won't mind me doing this. :) Thanks, Willking1979 (talk) 10:51, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
Thank you; I've not looked too closely, but I don't see User:Jack Merridew as restored. I do want that back with the nbsp I stuck in there as the top rev. I'm going to be reusing the old structure for future pages.
I owe you, so keep me in mind when you have some sort of coding or formatting issue. Cheers, Jack Merridew 11:31, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
Hmmm...the nbsp is in the current rev. Am I missing something? Willking1979 (talk) 11:38, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
There should be about a hundred other revs. The log is showing it as deleted. This page was deleted twice as I had an intermediate page there for a bit (a block button). This may be some sort of caching issue, so I'll clear everything and look again. Cheers, Jack Merridew 11:48, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
I went ahead and restored all revisions. If you need any of these re-deleted, just tell me. Willking1979 (talk) 11:55, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
I'm seeing them, now; 328, it says. I also see two more pages that need undoing; User:Jack Merridew bot and User talk:Jack Merridew bot.
There are some old vandalism revs that I wouldn't mind not being there:
These are dangerous, as they can crash browsers. Also:
these moves have an attack url in the edit summary and the nimp site has malware on it. This stuff is from Grawp. If it's appropriate to del these revs (and any more of same) and you're up for it; great.
Now I have to figure out what I want instead of the nbsp...
Thanks, again. Jack Merridew 12:18, 3 December 2009 (UTC) (p.s. it's evening here: Bali)
I believe I got everything taken care of as of now. Anything else I missed? Willking1979 (talk) 12:48, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
I'll check, but I've got food to eat, now. Thanks much for your help. Jack Merridew 13:07, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
I think I may have messed up again...could any admin viewing this help me with this....I wish RevDelete was enabled. Willking1979 (talk) 13:09, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
Oh, I see they're back. I also see *7* of the 259,858 byte vandalism revs. Don't fret this; it's no big deal. Cheers, Jack Merridew 13:17, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
I am not fretting over this...it is just that I never restored so many individual revs in a sitting before today. Willking1979 (talk) 13:28, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
I guess I really meant don't sweat it; you've done great. Thank you. Jack Merridew 13:39, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

2010 WikiCup Signups Reconfirmation!

To ensure that everyone who signed up is still committed to participating in the 2010 WikiCup, it is required that you remove your name from this list! By removing your name, you are not removing yourself from the WikiCup. This is simply a way for the judges to take note of who has not yet reconfirmed their participation. If you have not removed your name from that list by December 30th, 2009 (by 23:59 (UTC)) then your name will be removed from the WikiCup.

It's worth noting the rules have changed, likely after you signed up. The changes made thus far are:

  • Mainspace and/or portal edits will not be awarded points at all.
  • Did you know? articles (which were worth 5 points last year) will now be worth 10 points.
  • Good articles (which were worth 30 points last year) will now be worth 40 points.
  • Valued pictures will be now awarded points, however the amount (5 or 10 points) is still being discussed.
  • Featured lists (which were worth 30 points last year) will now be worth 40 points.
  • Featured portals (which were worth 25 points last year) will now be worth 35 points.
  • Featured articles (which were worth 50 points last year) will now be worth 100 points.
  • Featured topics (which were worth 10 points per article last year) will now be worth 15 points per any article in the topic that you were a major contributor to.
  • Good topics (which were worth 5 points per article last year) will now be worth 10 points per any article in the topic that you were a major contributor to.
  • In the news will still be awarded points, however the amount (5 or 10 points) is still being discussed.

If you have any final concerns about the WikiCup's rules and regulations, please ask them now, before the Cup begins to avoid last minute problems. You may come to the WikiCup's talk page, or any of the judge's user talk pages. We're looking forwards to a great 2010 WikiCup! I am not a king (even though my last name is King), but I am a Wikipedia administrator. In brief, administrators can delete and protect pages, edit the Main Page, and block users who abuse their editing privileges. The reason why MarioToonlink7777 is blocked is that he misused his editing privileges by vandalizing articles and user pages. Willking1979 (talk) 20:36, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

I deleted the article under criteria A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion. The criteria states: "Articles lacking sufficient context to identify the subject of the article. Example: "He is a funny man with a red car. He makes people laugh." This applies only to very short articles. Context is different from content, treated in A3..." In summary, I deleted the article solely because of context. If you can email me, I will email you a copy of the article before it was tagged for speedy. I know this sounds like a weird request

So Whitesburg came up in your archive[1] and it looks like I am coming "home" for a week. Kentucky Route 15 really could have helped my planning from Lexington if it was improved : ) . I haven't been since I was real young and am debating on whether or not to bring a laptop. I'll be with out connection so is there anywhere in town (Starbucks and the like are obviously big here in the Pacific Northwest) to plug in? I also might just say screw it and take the week break from everything!Cptnono (talk) 10:29, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

There are no Starbucks in Whitesburg, but I would recommend Summit City Lounge, the Courthouse Cafe in downtown, or Pine Mountain Grill at Pine Mountain Junction (despite the fact that I have never visited those three restaurants). I am not sure of the status of WiFi in the city. The Chamber of Commerce has a great website here, the link to which I added to the Letcher County article a while back. Perfect. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.Cptnono (talk) 08:23, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

The Wikipedia Signpost: 14 December 2009

I think you may have made a mistake here. Just because someone created an article with no content doesn't mean that pre-existing links to that article should be delinked when the article is deleted. You deleted National Library of Côte d'Ivoire because there was no article there yet, not because it's not a valid topic. Perhaps this is some Twinkle setting you have on (I have never used the thing), and I am not sure how often you do this, but I just thought you should know. :-) Dominic·t 05:05, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

I simply forgot--as I sometimes do--to uncheck a box which would have allowed the red link to remain stading after a deletion. I apologize for the error. I previously discussed this default setting with another user. I think the box should be left unchecked by default in Twinkle's settings to prevent further errors like these. Hi there. I have created a page about Henry Herbert tailors Henry Herbert (tailor). There seem to be a couple of issues and I am a novice and would hugely appreciate your help in making the entry better. —Preceding unsigned comment added by CortoMaltese007 (talkcontribs) 13:36, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

The first thing this article needs is the addition of inline references. This is to ensure that it meets the notability guidelines. Are there any reliable third-party sources that discuss the subject? If so, you should add them to the article. Also, the tag on the article states that this is written like an advertisement. Wikipedia is not a soapbox. Make sure it is written like an encyclopedia article, not an ad. The article must meet the neutral point of view policy as well. If you need any further help, feel free to reply. Thanks, Willking1979 (talk) 14:20, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

Sockpuppetry

Re your recent tagging of an IP, you may like to look at Wikipedia:Long term abuse#Runtshit, which gives the background to this prolific vandal's activity. RolandR 21:44, 27 December 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, Roland...I have been aware of the long-term abuse for a while. I will monitor for further socking behaviors and will block on sight any Runtshit socks. Willking1979 (talk) 22:02, 27 December 2009 (UTC)

The 2010 WikiCup begins tomorrow!

Welcome to the biggest WikiCup Wikipedia has yet seen! Round one will take place over two months, and finish on February 26. There is only one pool, and the top 64 will progress. The competition will be tough, as more than half of the current competitors will not make it to round 2. Details about scoring have been finalized and are explained at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring. Please make sure you're familiar with the scoring rules, because any submissions made that violate these rules will be removed. Like always, the judges can be reached through the WikiCup talk pages, on their talk page, or over IRC with any issues concerning anything tied to the Cup. We will keep in contact with you via weekly newsletters; if you do not want to receive them, please remove yourself from the list here. Conversely, if a non-WikiCup participant wishes to receive the newsletters, they may add themselves to that list. Well, enough talk- get writing! Your submission's page is located here. Details on how to submit your content is located here, so be sure to check that out! Once content has been recognized, it can be added to your submissions page, from which our bot will update the main score table. Remember that only articles worked on and nominated during the competition are eligible for points. Have fun, and good luck! Garden, iMatthew, J Milburn, and The ed17 19:25, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

G10?? "disparage or threaten its subject"? Whatever happened to WP:AGF and WP:DONTBITE? CSD G8 would have been the appropriate choice given the circumstances (Wikipedia: Deletion policy breech in not waiting the full seven days to delete the redirect article Steven_John_Butt). There was no "slander", "threat" (legal or otherwise), or "disparagement", and no "biographical" material that was intentionally unsourced on the redirect page that was deleted (if sourcing is in question, please be specific, and I will supply more). Unless I am reading WP:RS incorrectly, quoting source the subject wrote about themselves is not inappropriate in a BLP. This was my first article, and perhaps ambitiously exhaustive for a lesser known, though still notable (IMHO) public figure. If the issue was too much primary source quotation, I would be happy to correct it. Please advise.Crickmanzz (talk) 01:25, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

For some weird unknown reason, Girl2girlz (talk · contribs), a fairly new user, mistagged the article as G10. Maybe she knew something I didn't. But if I had a chance to delete it again, I would have marked it as G8. I sincerely apologize for the confusion. Willking1979 (talk) 01:43, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

"Edwin Everett Jacques" article: request to be undeleted

Hi Willking, hope all is well! Could you please undelete and place a "hangon" sign on the article Edwin Everett Jacques. It was deleted upon Wikipedia:CSD#G4, however he is a very important US historian and reverend in Albania and many of his sources can be used. I added one reference on his work and others will be added. Please note that I don't need it to be userfied (userfy). I want to have the page back so that we can discuss deletion on the talk page of it. Please use my talk page. Thanks! sulmues (talk)--Sulmues 21:09, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

Done. I have restored all the edits and placed a "Hangon" tag below the G4 tag. If you need anything else, please reply. Thanks, Willking1979 (talk) 21:21, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

Any chance of getting User:Atontearmonte blocked? This person vandalized the article on General George W. Casey, Jr. in mid-December. Thanks Whoisjohngalt (talk) 21:19, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

He has not edited since December, thus I will not block him right now...however, I will monitor the user for any further disruption. Willking1979 (talk) 21:46, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
