As the hatnote says, "For the fictional character, see Ali Baba." William Avery (talk) 12:09, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

Word war

Please stop changing center to centre. It's not a matter of Americanism vs England, centre is not even a word (It's the spelling of a pronunciation of a word with a English accent, the word however is "center") . It's not in the dictionary and I cant find a single professional spell checking utility that recognizes it. Thank you. 68.188.161.25 (talk) 08:01, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

Species

good morning, in danger of being called a nitpicker, I have the following remark: you have corrected an article on CCMV by removing the word "species", saying that a chemical crystal cannot be called thus... Actually it can, a chemical species is just a type. Cheers. Sikkema (talk) 22:40, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

Yes, my summary was wrong. It was a 'false scent' I felt between the normal meaning of "species" and specific term "chemical species" that I wanted to iron out. William Avery (talk) 09:25, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

People United Means Action

My understanding was that old or alternative names for something go at the beginning of the articles, so why when the article admits that "The PUMA acronym as originally coined stood for "Party Unity My Ass";" and this is what I think most people who followed the election but not *that* closely know it as; should it not be put in that alternate name spot? At the very least, why is this vandalism rather than an edit dispute? 208.66.212.230 (talk) 15:13, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

I'm afraid your edit just looked like addition of profanity. I don't know why it was reverted the second time, when you used an informative edit summary. William Avery (talk)

Thanks!

Thanks for reverting the vandalism to my user page! MANdARAX • XAЯAbИAM 19:34, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

Tame Impala

According to Modular Recordings, the band's record label, "Sundown Syndrome" is a single not an EP. I have corrected the entry and advised User:123.243.218.22 on their talkpage. I have also provided the reference on the article talk page. Dan arndt (talk) 09:06, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

Objection

I would like to complain about the term “Grammar Nazi” used on your page to indicate your enthusiasm for linguistic prescription. The term “Nazi” is extremely sensitive for many people and should only be used to refer to the National Socialist Party of Germany in the 1930s and 1940s. Trivialising it by using it to mean someone who is particularly fussy about something, especially in a non-pejorative sense as with the rules of grammar, is completely unacceptable. Millions of people died at the hands of the Nazi regime and we should not demean their suffering. There are plenty of inoffensive terms, like “stickler” or “fusspot” or even “nerd” which can communicate the same meaning. 81.145.40.194 (talk) 12:49, 30 July 2009 (UTC)Gabriel Fox

Gone. But see other pages using that template. You could list Template:User_Grammar_nazi at WP:MFD. William Avery (talk) 13:12, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
I wonder if he went on a rampage of all 400 or so pages that use that after this.... Jabberwockgee (talk) 00:24, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

You beat me to reverting the earlier vandalism. It's not fair if you have a faster computer. Lol Piano non troppo (talk) 12:12, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

Bertie Ahern

This basic fact has been on this site for most of the last 3 years though from time to time people who perhaps have an agenda try and change it by either deleting it or hyping the importance of his membership of accountancy associations given to him in his capacity as Irish prime minister and given in an honorary sense. --78.16.174.110 (talk) 10:22, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

Please discuss this at talk:Bertie Ahern. William Avery (talk) 10:24, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

Removal of PROD from Julie Thi Underhill

Hello William Avery, this is an automated message from SDPatrolBot to inform you the PROD template you added to Julie Thi Underhill has been removed. It was removed by Closedmouth with the following edit summary '(prod is contested, please take it to afd instead if you wish to have it deleted (per WP:PROD))'. Please consider discussing your concerns with Closedmouth before pursuing deletion further yourself. If you still think the article should be deleted after communicating with the 'dePRODer,' you may want to take part in the article's current AfD. Thank you, SDPatrolBot (talk) 01:31, 18 August 2009 (UTC) (Learn how to opt out of these messages)

thanks

first vandalism to my page... I'm part of the club now. thanks for reverting. Seb az86556 (talk) 07:55, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

Deaning?

I'm confused. Why did I get a user warning relating to this article? TheRetroGuy (talk) 11:21, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

No worries. I see I created it as a redirect last year and someone decided to turn it into a nonsense article. Still, all sorted out now hopefully. TheRetroGuy (talk) 11:27, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

Not sure why you are asking me - I thought the user was spamming. Only File:Angela Craciun 2009.jpg has a valid licence tag. The user seems to be representing http://www.wdscenter.ro/ William Avery (talk) 14:46, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

user Asiantractor

Hi, I have no idea what the wiki etiquette is in such a situation, so I thought I would point out this http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User_talk:Asiantractor Dbrodbeck (talk) 01:24, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

Eric Clapton sound files

Hi, there's a note about the need to reduce the large number of excerpts. Do you know who put them there? Are you in a position to decide which ones should go? Tony (talk) 01:41, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Although a link is given to WP:NFCC there is nothing there to support a blanket accusation of "too many", as long as each has a rationale and illustrates a separate point.
User:Deltabeignet - One tranche in the section "Clapton's guitars" with captions claiming they each illustrate some notable phase or facet of his oeuvre. Only one of these seven is used elsewhere (File:1 Steppin' Out.ogg in Blues).

User: Poeloq
http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Eric_Clapton&diff=prev&oldid=196251007 - Fair use also claimed for Layla
http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Eric_Clapton&diff=prev&oldid=196252266 - Fair use also claimed for The Yardbirds
http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Eric_Clapton&diff=prev&oldid=196250599 - Fair use also claimed for Blind Faith

Most material would be retained by leaving the ones under "Clapton's guitars" and removing the ones that are used in articles about individual bands or songs. William Avery (talk) 09:47, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
William, I hope you don't mind my copying this thread to the article talk page. Tony (talk) 11:10, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
William, are you able to come up with decisions as to which files should be saved? They really will have to have their sound described in the text. I suspect someone from NFC will take action soon, otherwise. Tony (talk) 14:06, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
Seems to have been resolved now. William Avery (talk) 08:16, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your help with BLPs!

The BLP Barnstar
Your hard work on BLPs in general, and at User:Lar/Liberal Semi specifically, is much appreciated. That page has now been sunsetted (and I hope never to need to bring it back) but the work you did there (whether by bringing articles forward, reviewing them, or protecting them... or even by questioning or criticizing the process!) was of great help to the project. See you in the trenches! ++Lar: t/c 01:49, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

You deleted my unfounded comments but not those above it.

So.. I guess you like yourself a whole whole whole lot huh? I kinda figured someone like you would read not just what i had posted but what the two statements above mine were. A - who parks their horse on the street? Is there a lot of data as to which side cyclists mount from? I have this odd feeling it would turn out to be about 50/50 depending on which side you walk up to. And I highly doubt (and google has shown me) that left eyes fail first there is not enough data out there to suggest either one fails faster than the other in general. I will also have you know that squirrels ARE easier to see. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.99.102.146 (talk) 11:50, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
