Help me!

Please help me with... creating one or two other Sandboxes?

Wikullis (talk) 08:07, 25 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Wikullis, one way to create new sandboxes would be to create wikilinks like so:
* [[User:Wikullis/sandbox2|Sandbox 2]]
* [[User:Wikullis/sandbox3|Sandbox 3]]

Just paste that code into your user page, and it will then show like this:

The first wikilink is to the sandbox you've already created, so it's blue (or purple if you've already visited the page). The other two are to sandbox 2 and sandbox 3. These have not yet been created, so they show in red. Just click on a red link and you can start editing and then save these two new sandboxes.

Or you could just go to your first sandbox and in the browser address bar, change sandbox to sandbox2 or sandbox3.

Watchlist

[edit]

Hi again, Wikullis.

If you want to watch a page (or unwatch it), just click on the "star" at the top of the page.

Then if you click on the link labelled "watchlist" at the top of the page, you can see a list of most recent changes to pages that you're watching.

"hist" on the left shows a complete history of revisions to a page. And in the history you can also compare changes between revisions.

"diff" on the left shows the difference that the latest edit made.

Hope this helps. Regards, Esowteric+Talk 09:24, 25 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Magic Monastery

[edit]

Ulrika: Your article looks good. As a beginner I would suggest being bold and publish the article. However, it might be nice to get a second opinion. I will ask Eric Twose [esowteric] to review the post also. Go ahead and get started on a Veiled Gazelle. Thanks for your efforts and excellent job. Woodmai (talk) 14:01, 25 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Will check it out after dinner. Many thanks! Eric Esowteric+Talk 14:33, 25 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again, Ulrika. I've just made some minor changes, as you'll see in the page history.

I think that the "Reception" section should maybe be more descriptive, rather than a list. Maybe something like this, though maybe you can come up with something better (obviously, go in to "edit" this talk page section, copy, and paste into the sandbox page):

---oOo---

In the August 1972 edition of Encounter magazine, Doris Lessing described the work as "a particularly and intriguingly informative" "textbook for students".

The book was featured in The Observer Review's Book of the Year on 17 December 1972, where it was described as "remarkable for its precise response to the real and inner needs of the time."

In October 1972, writing in the journal Asian Affairs, historian L. F. Rushbrook Williams described The Magic Monastery as "accurately expressing Sufi thought and practice in vivid terms easily comprehensible to readers" and wrote that it illustrates "the manner in which Sufi practice, with its devastating criticism of purely academic learning and its continuing Socratic search for truth at any cost, exercises a powerful appeal to many thoughtful people in the West."[1]

On June 5, 1972, the Worcester Evening News wrote that book contained "an enormous amount of commonsense" and that the reader "will become amused, educated, immersed."

A reviewer wrote in the Huddersfield Daily Examiner on 22 June 1972 that the book "offers much in the way of contemplation and hope, a respite from the ills of modern society."

In the London Evening News on 5 April 5 1972, the reviewer wrote that the book "...prob[ed] gently into deeper levels of the mind and echo[ed] with what might be conscience."

In the Kingston Borough News, on 19 January 1973, the reviewer was of the opinion that "You won't be quite the same person when you have read this book." and rated the work as "Highly recommended."

Writer, novelist and philosopher, Colin Wilson in his review of The Magic Monastery noted that Shah "is not primarily concerned with propagating some secret doctrine. He is concerned with the method by which mystical knowledge is transmitted... The Sufis transmit knowledge through direct intuition rather in the manner of the Zen masters, and one of the chief means of doing this is by means of brief stories and parables which work their way into the subconscious and activate its hidden forces."[2]

---oOo---

Note that there's now a longer quote from Rushbridge Williams, and a reference to the journal.

Great work, Ulrika! I would say that the article is about ready to go. I'll create link to The Magic Monastery on the Idries Shah page, in the section "Works" and if go into edit the sandbox, copy that text, then click on the red link, you can create the page and save it.

Then we just need to unrem / uncomment the categories again, and at some point upload an image and show it in the page. Esowteric+Talk 15:35, 25 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Very well done, Ulrika! Have left a reply to you on my talk page. Esowteric+Talk 06:23, 26 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Have removed {{User sandbox}} from the page top. Esowteric+Talk 06:32, 26 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sorted now: I put "nowiki" around the above only so that it would show on your talk page without formatting / rendering the template itself. Esowteric+Talk 06:36, 26 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Well done!

[edit]

Congratulations on your first English wiki article The Magic Monastery, Ulrika. Maybe you could email the ISF as a courtesy, tell them that you've created the article, and give them the URL? Regards, Eric: Esowteric+Talk 06:47, 26 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

After creating a page, what I usually do (and will do) is search Wikipedia for mentions of the title and wikilink them. apart from anything, the article won't then be flagged as an orphan. Esowteric+Talk 10:56, 26 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Eric, I´ll try to do that. Is this the URL? https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/The_Magic_Monastery Best regards Wikullis (talk) 06:50, 27 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that's the right URL, Katrina. Esowteric+Talk 09:28, 27 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Current sandbox

[edit]

Hi Ulrika, hope you don't mind me having a look at your draft of AVG. What you really need additionally are two (or more) references that give significant mention of the book, AVG itself, in order to establish notability. Regards, Esowteric+Talk 15:00, 9 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Erik,on the contrary,I appreciate it, thank you.. I'm working on it but I still haven't found anything on AVG, feel a bit stuck actually. Wikullis (talk) 16:01, 9 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

No, it's not easy finding references, since the books were published prior to the internet. Esowteric+Talk 16:10, 9 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
