Direct, reliable sources needed for Days of the Year pages
[edit]You're probably not aware of this change, but Days of the Year pages now require direct reliable sources for additions. For details see the content guideline, the WikiProject Days of the Year style guide or the edit notice on any DOY page. Almost all new additions without references are now being reverted on-sight.
Please do not add new additions to these pages without direct sources as the burden to provide them is on the editor who adds or restores material to these pages.

[edit]Pending changes
[edit]Hi. Your (and those by some other editors) edits to pages with pending changes are somehow not getting accepted. Any clue? I've opened a discussion here. RandomCanadian (talk / contribs) 02:53, 29 January 2021 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for May 27
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited June 25, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page ABC. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

[edit] Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made to List of Italian supercentenarians: you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Thank you. ― Qwerfjkl | 𝕋𝔸𝕃𝕂 (please use {{reply to|Qwerfjkl}}

[edit]Oldest Canadian supercentenarian?
[edit]Hello. Since you are the most active editor of the article List of Canadian supercentenarians, I would be interested in your opinion of the comments on the talk page of that article about Susannah (Stokes) Maxwell. If the quoted dates from DCB are reliable, she lived 108 days longer than Marie-Louise Meilleur and should be added to the list as no.1. However I am hesitant to add a new no.1 without your opinion, in case there is something I have not understood. What do you think? Dirac66 (talk) 15:54, 12 January 2022 (UTC)
Hello. Thank you for asking my opinion about this. I have looked into it, and based on the Dictionary of Canadian Biography and on newspaper articles from 1923, I feel it is possible that the lifespan given for Susannah (Stokes) Maxwell is accurate. For you to be able to add her to the list, I believe she must be validated. I have emailed someone at the Gerontology Research Group, which verifies supercentenarian lifespans, to see what would be required to authenticate Susannah (Stokes) Maxwell, and therefore, if she should be added to the no. 1 spot on the list. Hopefully, I'll hear back from them soon, and I will let you know what they have to say about this. Wiki O'Ryan (talk) 03:54, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you. I am glad to learn that there is a systematic validation procedure. Dirac66 (talk) 14:12, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
Hello. I got a response from the director of the Research and Database division of the GRG (Gerontology Research Group). He points out that this would be a case of someone reaching 117 years old almost 70 years before anyone else (Jeanne Calment in 1992) and he feels that it is "extremely unlikely to be true" and that "scientists in the field would be extremely skeptical of this claim". However, he says "there is still a chance" and it is "worth an investigation.". I sent him links to some sources I could find that relate to Susannah (Stokes) Maxwell, and her allegedly living to 117. Once I hear back from him, I'll let you know what he has to say. Wiki O'Ryan (talk) 05:13, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
- OK, thanks for taking care of this. The DCB article is based on a 1923 report of her death in the Globe (now the Globe and Mail), but I suppose we don't really know what evidence the Globe reporter had for her birthdate in 1805. I'll wait for the GRG to investigate further. Dirac66 (talk) 01:28, 22 January 2022 (UTC)
I heard back from the GRG research director. He said that "the odds of this story being true are approximately 0%." There are some discrepancies in the sources that relate to Susannah (Stokes) Maxwell and her lifespan (for example, a photo caption says her death was in 1922 rather than 1923, and on the same page, she was said to have been only 116 when she died.) Also, the director said that "there won't be any early-life documentation." Based on this, I don't think Susannah Maxwell should be included on the list of Canadian supercentenarians, since there are no real primary sources to validate her lifespan. However, the GRG director did say that while Maxwell was probably younger than she was claimed to be, "this case is still of interest from an 'oral history' perspective" and that it has relevance as being "an example of extreme longevity media reporting in the 1920s" and said that claims of extremely long lives can be traced back to the 1840s. He suggested that an article about Susannah Maxwell could be added to the Gerontology Wiki (https://gerontology.fandom.com) Do you want to create the article on the Gerontology Wiki? I contribute frequently to Fandom, and I would be happy to help in any way I can. The GRG director feels this is worth pursuing, and I agree. If you don't feel like doing this, just let me know, and I'd be happy to do it. Wiki O'Ryan (talk) 05:27, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for checking this out. It is just as well that I did not add her to the list as no.1, which would probably have led to confusion and started arguments. Perhaps she herself did not know how old she really was. As for the Gerontology Wiki, I would prefer that you create that article since you have much more experience than me in documenting and describing very long lives.Dirac66 (talk) 22:41, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- No Problem. I'll take care of it. Thanks for bringing her story to my attention. Even if her actual age is in doubt, she still has a really interesting life story. Wiki O'Ryan (talk) 05:38, 27 January 2022 (UTC)
Ada Thompson, British Supercentenarian
[edit]Hello Wiki O'Ryan. Since you do a lot of updating of the List of British Supercentenarians, I thought I would let you know that I added Ada Thompson into position 95. I cited 2 sources, the first of which is a local newspaper article from 2016 establishing her existence and historical info. The second source is a corporate Facebook posting within the last year verifying that she is still living. I realize that Facebook postings are frowned upon as a reliable source, but when I did some research on the Wikipedia's definition of reliable sources (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Reliable_sources), they did reluctantly allow Facebook postings as a source of information under certain circumstances. I do believe this qualifies (corporate account, neither unduly self-serving nor an exceptional claim, visual support, no reasonable doubt as to its authenticity). I did contact the local newspaper about Ada and they did verify that the 2016 article is the last that they published. Having pointed out that Ada may be the second or third oldest living British person may have piqued their interest. If nothing happens before her next birthday in November, I will contact them again and remind them about Ada's 113th birthday. Thanks, Ralph (Toronto, Canada) Rklingmann (talk) 20:23, 19 April 2022 (UTC)
- Hello. I think that this addition is fine. The sources seem reliable, and she is still alive according to the Gerontology wiki on Fandom. Thank you for letting me know. Wiki O'Ryan (talk) 05:04, 20 April 2022 (UTC)
Merle O'Hara, Canadian Supercentenarian
[edit]Hi Wiki O'Ryan. Just a heads up that I added a new living person (Merle O'Hara) to the bottom of the Canadian Supercentenarian List. Regards, Ralph Rklingmann (talk) 03:23, 9 May 2022 (UTC)

- Hello I have never attempted to change anything on Wikipedia until now. The longest marriage page is missing my wife's aunt and uncle, Louis and Grace Marine from Chino CA. They were born on Jan 15, 1942 and have been married 80 years and 290 days as of Nov 1, 2022. Here is a news article about them https://www.championnewspapers.com/news/article_a961d8de-8092-11ec-9ba2-bb485d147ab1.html. How can we get them added to this list? RPSMTS (talk) 02:33, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
- Hello. The source provided looks good, and I'd say this can be added to the list. I can add it myself if you'd like, or would you be interested in doing so? Wiki O'Ryan (talk) 00:29, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
- Can you add it? I do not know how. Thanks! RPSMTS (talk) 03:28, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
