Your invitation: Bay Area WikiSalon series at Noisebridge

Please join us in San Francisco!
A Wikipedia panel discussion about journalism

The last Wednesday evening of every month, wiki enthusiasts gather at Bay Area WikiSalon to collaborate, mingle, and learn about new projects and ideas. This month we are meeting at Noisebridge makerspace/hackerspace in the Mission near 16th Street BART (temporary change of venue). The good news is this means that you can bring spontaneous guests if you forget to RSVP!

We allow time for informal conversation and working on articles. Newcomers and experienced wiki users are encouraged to attend. Free Wi-Fi is available so bring your editing devices. We will have beverages (including beer and wine) plus light snacks.

If possible, please RSVP as it helps us figure out how much food and drink to bring in. For further details and to RSVP, please see: Wikipedia:Bay Area WikiSalon, March 2017

Tip of the day tip

Hi.

I noticed that you have some of the tip of the day templates on your user page, including the one day early tip, for monitoring. I used to have mine posted the same way, but found that since I didn't access my user page much, I forgot to keep an eye on the tips from there.

So, here's a tip about the daily tip...

On my talk page, I include the current tip and tomorrow's tip as a footnote at the bottom of my talk page, by inserting this following code anywhere on the page:

<ref>{{totd}}</br>{{right|{{today cell}}{{spaces|5}}}}{{totd-tomorrow}}</ref>

This floats the tips below all messages. Where they catch my attention everytime I check for messages.

Like this.[1]

To remove them from the bottom of your page, remove the line with reference, directly above.

I hope you find this tip to your liking.

Have fun.

Sincerely, The Transhumanist 07:31, 13 March 2017 (UTC)

P.S.: I like your floating cup of coffee. —TT

Hi, The Transhumanis. It is good to hear from you. I have already benefited from the footnote style placement of TOTD. It would be fun to refine it into a slick template like the coffee cup thing. Cheers! {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 23:22, 25 March 2017 (UTC)

Pick from a list of template parameter choices

Do you have a list of possible choices for a template parameter? Use the #switch parser function to define the choices. Then simply enter the choice's numeric value into the template for the applicable parameter, e.g., 1="Sunday" 2="Monday" 3="Tuesday" ... Default choices also can be listed. For simplicity with lists, use a switch statement instead of a "nested if-then-else" conditional statement to control flow.

    World of fiction

Our culture is full of fiction, entire fictional universes inhabited by millions of fictional characters. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia that seeks to describe facts and opinions about reality. When writing about fiction, please be sure to establish the necessary context for the reader, so that it is clear that the article describes a fictional entity from a specific work. It is also often a good idea to combine many minor fictional characters or places into a single article about the fictional realm in question, especially when there is only a very limited amount that could be said about each of them.
