Does not work

[edit]

@WikiMacaroons: The script does not work for me. I might be wrong, but shouldn't the comma after "var params = {...}" be a semicolon? 1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 19:24, 28 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@1234qwer1234qwer4: Oh, that's weird, it seems to be working for me. I changed the comma to a semicolon, is it working for you now? WikiMacaroonsCinnamon? 20:29, 28 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@WikiMacaroons: Okay, I guess it is just interfering with some other user scripts I have installed (and it is not the ShortdescHelper, which I disabled in my preferences to test), as I was able to add a shortdesc to the userpage of my test account (see User:ัผ), but I am still not able to use the tool with this account. 1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 20:39, 28 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@WikiMacaroons: From what I had read in a thread about a conflict between scripts before, this (assuming this is the error) could be resolved by enclosing the code with
( function () {
//(code here)
}() );
This should make the variable "shortdesc" local, which is quite generic so I believe it could be used in a different script I have installed. 1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 20:48, 28 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@1234qwer1234qwer4: Ok, I've enclosed the entire script within that, hope it works now! WikiMacaroonsCinnamon? 08:07, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@WikiMacaroons: sorry, I forgot. I have no idea what is going wrong, but no, it doesn't work for me, sorry. I am using WP:Shortdesc helper anyway
1234qwer1234qwer4, very odd, but schortdesc helped is probably a better bet for functionality, this script is still in beta. WikiMacaroonsCinnamon? 06:46, 25 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@WikiMacaroons: Oh wow. Turns out it did work: User talk:WikiMacaroons/AutoShortDesc: Revision history (last action 2 hours 22 minutes ago). This is because I have a script displaying the last activity of a user in the page title. But I don't think I had it enabled when I tried to use your script just after you completed my last edit request (I had forgotten to answer after I tested it then).
(and I used it from the history)
Okay, to fix that, you should replace title: document.getElementById("firstHeading").textContent, by title: mw.config.get("wgPageName"),.

@WikiMacaroons: Thanks, it seems to work: Special:Diff/981177926 (though that page title is not modified with my installed scripts anyway). I suggest you add a newline after the template.
Oh, also, I don't think "automatically" is fully correct.
I was wrong by the way, as that still refers to the "var" before.

Template name

[edit]

Please could you modify your script to use the standard template name โ€” {{short description}} โ€” GhostInTheMachine talk to me 17:55, 31 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

GhostInTheMachine, sorry, I just saw this. For some reason I donโ€™t get pings from this page. Fixed that, and removed the obnoxious comment it put next to the short description - not sure why that was there! WikiMacaroonsCinnamon? 06:45, 25 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
