Gaza genocide RM

[edit]

It is disruptive to just launch a new RM so soon after the last one finished, especially when you bring literally no new sources or arguments, and nothing has changed "on the ground" since the last RM. Please don't do this. I removed your RM. Levivich (talk) 15:57, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Levivich Would you please point to the rule I broke by launching a new RM? This is one of the most crucial articles on WP, it's normal and healthy that there be debate surrounding it, not "disruptive". The last move was decided by a handful of votes and took place more than two months ago. WikiFouf (talk) 16:27, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
WP:CCC, "proposing to change a recently established consensus can be disruptive." The move review closed two weeks ago. Even two months is recent. Come back in six months with new sources to look at. Levivich (talk) 16:32, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And it wasn't decided by a handful of people, it was decided by about 100 people and we're not going to ask 100 people to "look again," considering we just did that in the move review. We're not going to check a third time, not yet. Levivich (talk) 16:34, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Levivich The margin was a handful of people, is my point. More importantly, the sources we do have right now don't show any kind of consensus. The decision to move said that 'Gaza genocide' is reflective of the wording used by available reliable sources. Now please go look at the sources table on the talk page and tell me if you can come out with that conclusion. WikiFouf (talk) 16:55, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@WikiFouf, please don't be perturbed by what looks like nothing more than an attempt to intimidate you and put you in your place. @Levivich there is no policy preventing a motion to contest the move and the review of it, as soon as it was completed. The move and the review are not representative of current community consensus, which can change (See WP:CCC). I fully support a new move request and a full discussion on outcomes. Thank you WikiFouf (talk) 18:01, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

<- Hi, I have a question. Are you able to describe how you arrived at the conclusion that "This is one of the most crucial articles on WP"? Is this view based on a specific piece of information? In terms of page views, I think it received just over one thousandth of a percent of all 10.4 billion English Wikipedia page views for August, so the view does not appear to be based on statistics. Sean.hoyland (talk) 17:06, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Sean.hoyland Oh that's a subjective claim. Whether or not a genocide is currently going on with the support of major Western powers is one of the most crucial topics right now, that's what I meant. WikiFouf (talk) 18:07, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Sitting Bull and Buffalo Bill

[edit]

On 18 September 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Sitting Bull and Buffalo Bill, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that one of the last photographs ever taken of Sitting Bull shows him side by side with Buffalo Bill? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Sitting Bull and Buffalo Bill. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Sitting Bull and Buffalo Bill), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Formal warning

[edit]

This is a formal warning that RMs, especially in contentious topics, should not be opened shortly after a recent RM was closed without some change in the status quo. It wastes valuable editor time, and is disruptive. This warning is a result of this AE report. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 17:43, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@ScottishFinnishRadish If you don't mind, could you point to the specific rule I broke by my RM. I'm a relatively new editor and don't know all the rules, which is why I made sure to read the whole WP:RM instructions before posting. What you're telling me here is not listed there, nor on WP:Consensus, and there was no moratorium on RMs at the time, so I'm confused at the moment. Thank you WikiFouf (talk) 20:22, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's covered a bit in WP:TE and WP:DE, but not everything that is disruptive is specifically spelled out. Consensus building discussions are very expensive in editor time and opening another one after the earlier discussion was just closed and upheld for no reason other than you disagreed with the result. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 00:12, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Disagree with the mentality here but thank you for answering WikiFouf (talk) 14:48, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Peck Building
