Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Wikidocster/(all)
[edit]Please see Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Wikidocster/(all), where all of your subpages have been nominated for deletion. I think you should explain to us what you were intending by coping mainspace articles into your userspace. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 01:26, 21 November 2009 (UTC)
Copying articles within Wikipedia
[edit]I have just seen a message from you that the articles in my domain have been considered for deletion. First of all, I am sorry I was late in seeing your message. The explanation for this copying is as follows:
I work on the Google-Wikipedia translation project, in which we use the Google translator toolkit to translate the English wikipedia articles to Arabic wikipedia articles. So the English articles I copied in my domain are for translation into Arabic articles using the Google translator toolkit. I have to copy the English source into my domain, so that the toolkit uploads the Arabic translation in my domain as well, before the article is edited and transferred to be a mainstream Wikipedia article.
I hope this explains the issue for both myself, and for MayNassar as well. Thank you.

- Hi Wikidocster. thanks for your response on my talk page, which I have copied here. If I understand correctly, you only need the pages temporarily. When you are finished with your need for them, would you please replace their contents with {{db-u1}}. Keeping the pages indefinitely is a problem, because we do not like content forking of continuing articles. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 07:49, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
A quick tip
[edit]Hi, WikiDocster. Thanks for your work on Wikipedia. I have one quick point to mention, when you are editing articles in talk space, you should not use the categories because they add your user space articles to the encyclopedia categories. There are two possibilities. You can comment them out as I did with User:WikiDocster/Ray Charles or you can put a colon before the category while they are in user-space (for example, [[:Category:Polar Music Prize laureates]] would show a link to the category but not add the page to the category). When you publish the article in name-space, just uncomment or un-colon the categories. You have a large number of pages with this issue. If it's not too much to ask, I'll allow you the chance to solve this problem. Good work in general though! Jason Quinn (talk) 14:09, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
- Hi Jason. Thanks for your message. Can you please clarify the point again concerning the mistake I've done with the categories. What I do is add the English article as follows.
Step 1: I start by opening the original Wikipedia article. For example: (http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Ray_Charles).
Step 2: Then I click to 'edit' that original page.
Step 3: Then I copy all its contents.
Step 4: Then I open a new browser page and Insert the name from scratch as follows (http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/user:WikiDocster/Ray_Charles), to make a new page in my space.
Step 5: Then I paste the contents from the original into the editbox of my new page.
Step 6: Then I save, and use my new url in the google toolkit.
Now the comment from SmokeyJoe above tells me that I have to insert db - u1 instead of the contents of my newly formed (and temporary) page after using it. If I understood that correctly, please clarify the change I have to make in my above steps.
Sorry for overloading, and thanks for your help. --WikiDocster
Hi, WikiDocster. After pasting the material in Step 5, you should comment out the categories before saving in Step 6. The reason is that a page like http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/user:WikiDocster/Ray_Charles is in user space (note the word user highlighted in red) and user space articles should not go into the encyclopedia categories, so the categories should be commented-out until you re-publish the article somewhere in name-space (name-space is the where the normal encyclopedia articles live). It's slightly hard to explain without jargon. I hope I made myself clear. I would also add a few more steps to your procedure. After you translate into Arabic and publish on the Arabic Wikipedia, I would delete the pages in English that you copied. This will prevent search engines from finding your (now unchanging) user-space copy before the real and current article among other issues. Jason Quinn (talk) 16:08, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
Subpages
[edit]Hey WikiDocster, I'm closing Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Wikidocster/(all). It looks like consensus was to delete them all, I'm doing that with the assumption that you don't need any of them any more. If you do, let me know and I'm happy to undelete them long enough for you to do whatever you need. If you don't mind, in the future just mark any userspace subpages with {{db-u1}} as soon as you don't need them any more. Don't hesitate to leave me a message on my talk page if you have any questions or need anything, I'm always glad to help. Peace, delldot ∇. 01:21, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
