A belated welcome!

Sorry for the belated welcome, but the cookies are still warm!

Here's wishing you a belated welcome to Wikipedia, WikIan. I see that you've already been around a while and wanted to thank you for your contributions. However, some of your edits don't exactly conform to the style of Wikipedia, and other editors may have reverted some of them already. Still, don't be discouraged! If you read some of the basic rules of Wikipedia, you'll probably get along much better with the other users and have have less trouble with your edits. If I were to sum up the rules for editing in one basic sentence, I would say that edits have to non-biased, verifiable, and free—that is to say, not copy-righted by somebody else. Also, I've listed some links below to more pages about how to edit Wikipedia.

If you want to experiment with formatting a page, you can click the Show Preview button on the editing page to make sure it turns out right, or you can test formatting (or anything, for that matter) in the Sandbox.

Remember that most images out on the web, such as company logos, are usually copyrighted. If you upload an image to Wikipedia, remember to accurately list the image's source (Did you create it, did it come from a webpage that allows people to freely use their images, etc.). Otherwise, the image tends to get deleted fairly quickly. You can't copy and paste copyrighted text from elsewhere on the web onto Wikipedia either. By keeping Wikipedia clean of material that is copyrighted, we can make sure that everyone can use Wikipedia for whatever purpose without breaking copyright.

Also, when you post on talk pages you should sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); that should automatically produce your username and the date after your post.

Lastly: one minor point. Many editors tend to dislike long or excessive plot summaries of books, TV shows, or movies. The thing is, Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia, and we're trying to sound like an encyclopedia: concise, and not over-promoting other stuff out there. Still, like I said, don't let all the rules in Wikipedia discourage you! It may take many years to fully know every obscure niche in the rulebook, but the best way to know how to edit a page and make it sound good it just to look at how other articles are written.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page, consult Wikipedia:Questions, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and ask your question there.

Again, welcome! Altamel (talk) 21:00, 11 August 2011 (UTC)

Please do not add or change content without verifying it by citing reliable sources, as you did to Windows 8. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. Jasper Deng (talk) 02:47, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

Reliable sourcing

Windows 8 News and Youtube are not reliable sources. Also, per our manual of style, please do not refer to the reader (like saying "you can"), use proper grammar, and do not add original research (your own research). Thank you.Jasper Deng (talk) 17:41, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Cyberchase, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Hacker (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on List of Cybersites requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, images, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. IagoQnsi (talk) 01:40, 23 April 2014 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:SurfaceFamily.png.jpg.png

Thanks for uploading File:SurfaceFamily.png.jpg.png. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 05:46, 22 May 2014 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:SurfaceFamily.png.jpg.png

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:SurfaceFamily.png.jpg.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 22:44, 22 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi there, a while back you contacted me about the inclusion of catchphrases for Cyberchase characters. I opened a discussion on the talk page on January 28th. If you aren't interested in discussing, then I will remove the content again, otherwise, please add your comments to the talk page. As you probably are aware, consensus is determined through discussion. Thanks. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 01:09, 5 February 2015 (UTC)

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Microsoft Surface 3 a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut-and-paste-move repair holding pen. Additionally, all the others contain Microsoft in their page title, making it inconsistent. ViperSnake151  Talk  17:44, 31 March 2015 (UTC)

How do you move a page to a page that already exists and is a redirect?Ians18 (talk) 18:38, 31 March 2015 (UTC)

License tagging for File:Surface 2 Device Pic.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Surface 2 Device Pic.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 21:05, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

Cyberchase Season 10

Hi there, I've started a discussion at Talk:List of Cyberchase episodes. You don't presently have consensus for your preferred version, as community guidelines already exist. So you have the burden of arguing for inclusion. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 12:18, 5 May 2015 (UTC)

Surface pictures

Okay, here's an idea; why not just look for a PD-licensed image (we have a whole site full of them, you know) and open them in full screen mode on the tablet? ViperSnake151  Talk  18:26, 14 June 2015 (UTC)

Here's an idea for you. None of my pictures feature any other pictures that I myself have not taken. I.E. I hold the copyright/ownership to all my images. Therefore no one on Wikipedia has the right to delete them without getting a response from me. I have been away so sorry for not dedicating my life to Wikipedia. But I wan't to let you and everyone else know that those images will be back on Wikipedia soon because whoever marked the image as having copyright issues did not even bother to check with me first without marking it for deletion. Ians18 (talk) 08:13, 24 June 2015 (UTC)
No, what I was saying was that you can work your self-made pictures into them without sloppily editing them in. ViperSnake151  Talk  17:35, 24 June 2015 (UTC)
So I'm not the best photoshopper in the world. Are you any better? Then, please create your own pictures. No one looking for information on the Surface is even going to remotely care if the image looks slightly off. I still don't exactly know which photo you are referring to. I don't have amazing skills in Photoshop but the image will have to do. Ians18 (talk) 19:56, 24 June 2015 (UTC)

Just wanted to note that templates like {{disagree}} are mostly intended for closing discussions. It's not really for discussions trying to come to a consensus or for !voting—at least on en-wikipedia as other wikis might use an equivalent to {{support}} and {{oppose}}. If you want to see symbols in !voting/RfC discussions consider using User:Ais523's votesymbols.js. See Wikipedia:Deletion review/Perennial requests#Template:Support and Wikipedia:User scripts. PaleAqua (talk) 04:41, 12 July 2015 (UTC)

Thanks, but other users have used it in the past in talk pages. Don't try and single me out. We are only two/three people discussing here and I would like this discussion to end. Ians18 (talk) 04:49, 12 July 2015 (UTC)
No problem, not trying to single out, which is why I pointed out here instead of at the article's talk page. And yes would be nice if we could come to some sort of consensus and end the discussion. PaleAqua (talk) 06:42, 12 July 2015 (UTC)

Edit warring

I know there is an ongoing discussion, but I wanted to give you a heads up that you're close to violating WP:3RR on Microsoft Surface. agtx 19:22, 19 July 2015 (UTC)

User TheHoax has reverted my edits as well in violation of WP:BRDC Ians18 (talk) 19:24, 19 July 2015 (UTC)
Did you ever bother to look at my last edit or were you just trigger happy? There is nothing controversial about that edit. TheHoax (talk) 19:25, 19 July 2015 (UTC)
You renamed Surface 2 to MicrSurface 2, breaking the Wikilink. :/ Ians18 (talk) 19:28, 19 July 2015 (UTC)
And your point is? You can fix that without reverting my edits? TheHoax (talk) 19:29, 19 July 2015 (UTC)
I did think you renamed it the Surface RT to undo my edits. Ians18 (talk) 19:31, 19 July 2015 (UTC)
So you didn't bother to look? TheHoax (talk) 19:38, 19 July 2015 (UTC)
You have previously edited in violation of WP:BRDC, so it was my mistake. All redirects have been fixed now. Ians18 (talk) 19:40, 19 July 2015 (UTC)

July 2015

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Microsoft Surface. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware that Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. PaleAqua (talk) 19:40, 19 July 2015 (UTC)
