TomWatkins1970 and Bros articles
Hi!
I see that you have blocked a couple of socks, thank you. There seems to be two more that have edited Push (Bros album) recently. I'd appreciate it if you could block them. Sjö (talk) 05:48, 9 January 2019 (UTC)

187.255.216.208
187.255.216.208 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) was blocked multiple times in August for disruptive editing. (You blocked twice, which is why I'm on your talk page.) They're back at it recently on multiple pages, with unsourced changes and some talk page strangeness about people who work/worked at Disney [1]. Could you take a look? Many thanks. Bakazaka (talk) 05:23, 14 January 2019 (UTC)
- There's not enough actual recent disruption to justify blocking at this point. Widr (talk) 07:24, 14 January 2019 (UTC)
Changing block for User:91.216.55.150
Hi, just to let you know that I've temporarily changed the block for this IP address as there is a Wikimedia UK event today and they needed fast help. Just thought it would be polite to let you know, and I will re-block using your settings once it's over! PanydThe muffin is not subtle 13:28, 19 January 2019 (UTC)

Revoke talk page access for User:錦織基佬
This vandal has continued harassing Shellwood (the contributor that reported the vandal) even after being slammed with an indef block. I would like to request that the vandal's talk page access be revoked so that Shellwood could continue editing in peace without getting bombarded with all those unnecessary pings. Sk8erPrince (talk) 14:58, 19 January 2019 (UTC)
- Done already. Widr (talk) 15:00, 19 January 2019 (UTC)
- How did this guy get through the autoconfirmed protection tag on Kei Nishikori? Isn't that supposed to be 4 days of editing and 10 edits? He did 10 frivolous edits, but had only edited for 1 day. Extended confirmed might be better as this has been going on continuously since last October. Fyunck(click) (talk) 19:41, 19 January 2019 (UTC)

I saw you blocked an IP vandal earlier today for 31 hours. Is there significance in that specific number? Or is it arbitrary? Thanks in advance! Hdjensofjfnen (♪ Oh, can I get a connection? Alternatively, trout me.) 21:53, 28 January 2019 (UTC)

Hi there, I was wondering if you could help with this article. I am highly concerned about the recent edits back and forth by very new accounts or editors with very edits. I am tempted to reset the article back a few days, but I don't even know where to start what are useful and potentially problematic edits. Help is much appreciated. pseudonym Jake Brockman talk 13:38, 30 January 2019 (UTC)
AIV
I don't know if you saw, but I'd declined the report of Jometsjon. They'd been warned by another admin earlier and haadn't edited since so I didn't think a block was necessary. I'm not saying I wouldn't have blocked instead of warned had I been the first admin to spot it, but I generally try to avoid overruling other admins' decisions not to block. Blocking of Thomasmarsala1
Hi Widr. I saw that you applied an indefinite block to this account despite making only two live edits in 2018 and one edit blocked and logged by the edit filter, and despite the fact that I warned the user and updated the AIV report indicating this. Is there a reason that you chose to indef this account despite the response I gave at AIV, and the user's contributions? Please let me know (ping me here so that I'm notified). Thanks - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:56, 11 February 2019 (UTC)
- Meh, I gave it some thought. Even if the user's contribs are low - they were all vandalism. Disregard my message and questions; your actions were completely justified. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:05, 11 February 2019 (UTC)
- I was composing a reply to you, Oshwah, but yeah, I do not see any reason to let these sort of accounts run loose even if they made one edit a year. It's still complete waste of time for everyone. Widr (talk) 16:08, 11 February 2019 (UTC)

Shouldn't you have used the {{Schoolblock}} template instead of the {{anonblock}} one? The former has information relevant for any good-faith users attempting to edit from the university that is not in the latter. This is why I had previously proposed merging the two. Hello Widr and trust you are well? HChristie1027 - 3RR, not NOTHERE
Hi there,
I just thought I'd drop in and note that I don't think HChristie1027 warranted an indefinite ban for WP:NOTHERE - an attempt to remove personal information (ultimately backed up by an admin) was not unreasonable.
Clearly the way she went around it violated both a need for edit summaries and, more clearly, 3RR. However I don't think that warrants an indef length block. Nosebagbear (talk) 18:32, 3 April 2019 (UTC)
- If they have plans to edit some other articles, they are free to appeal the block, but I don't think they are "here" to do that; hence the block. Widr (talk) 18:45, 3 April 2019 (UTC)

That user...
Can you help me out here? I really don't get it. His local block log shows nothing. I look at the global block log and see nothing? Plus, the local block log usually reports if an account has been globally locked. I don't doubt since you seem sure, but what am I missing here? --Hammersoft (talk) 16:40, 20 April 2019 (UTC)
- You need to be an admin to view the block settings and see that the account is globally locked. The fact that there is no public trace of this means that it has also been suppressed. Widr (talk) 16:53, 20 April 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks. Rather surprising given sooooo many other names are so abusive. The coverage of this is minimal at best. You'd think suppressing wouldn't be a thing given how many never get suppressed. --Hammersoft (talk) 17:03, 20 April 2019 (UTC)

ArbCom 2019 special circular
Administrators must secure their accounts
The Arbitration Committee may require a new RfA if your account is compromised.
|
This message was sent to all administrators following a recent motion. Thank you for your attention. For the Arbitration Committee, Cameron11598 02:56, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
A message.
Hi, i'm from the school that was recently denied editing and account creation on Wikipedia. I would appreciate a removal of the ban. Thank you.
Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)
ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.
Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.
We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.
For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:04, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
