I watched a NFL film about this game some years ago where Bud Grant was interviewed about this game. He stated that Pearson definetly and probably deliberately pushed off of Nate Wright's hip with his hand, thus causing Wright to lose his balance and fall down. Grant certainly can't be called an unbiased observer since he was coach of the Vikings at the time, but he is certainly sincere in his beliefs.
