I think your changes look fine. The sentence is a little unwieldy but that's not something you did; it was already a bit clunky (it still makes sense though). For some reason with this franchise that happens a lot. I think it's the convoluted ways the deaths happen. An editor will try to describe the bare minimum to understand the plot and before you know it you've described every breeze, rolling marble, shifting brick, etc. Once I read the whole sentence you changed, I remembered the scene more clearly, so I see what you mean about it being wrong before.
