Eurovision 2012 Mediation Application

I have now submitted an application for mediation onto this reopened discussion about Azeri news agencies being false. The application can be found via here. Wesley Mouse (talk) 16:13, 29 August 2011 (UTC)

24 hour edit warring block

I appear to have the following on my editing abilities, despite the fact I've been working diplomatically to obtain a speedy resolution into the current dispute regarding verifiability of Azerbaijan online news agencies...

This user is currently blocked. The latest block log entry is provided below for reference: 01:08, 30 August 2011 Fox (talk | contribs) blocked Wesley Mouse (talk | contribs) (account creation blocked) with an expiry time of 24 hours ‎ (Edit warring: http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Eurovision_Song_Contest_2012&action=history)

I've contacted User:Fox, and await his reply. Anything else I should be doing? Wesley Mouse (talk) 02:04, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

Firstly, per WP:EXPLAINBLOCK users must be notified on their talk page that have been blocked unless there is a good reason not to. The reason for this policy is evident here, given that Wes is not aware of the procedure to appeal blocks - to do this use {{unblock | reason=your reason here ~~~~}} after reading WP:APPEAL. I also have to say, despite being an involved user, that this block was heavy handed. Wes is a relatively new user who is in deep water here, and has not exceeded 2RR, let alone 3RR, and he did not receive any direct warnings. Furthermore, given the state of the edit history is was pretty clear that the edit war was finished, with the last revert involving Weasley Mouse being at 21:04, 29 August 2011, nearly five hours before this block, making it appear more punitive than preventive. I would hence support unblocking. CT Cooper · talk 11:43, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

Unblocking

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who accepted the request.

Wesley Wolf (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

As stated above by User:CT Cooper, as a new user, I am not aware of the blocking procedure, nor was a blocking warning posted on my talk page by User:Fox prior to issuing the block in the first place, which I has since found out should have been the case. Also as it has been noted that I'm a relatively new user who is assisting in resolving an ongoing dispute, and haven't even exceeded 2RR, let alone 3RR. I would therefore like to request that this block is reviewed and lifted if found to be unjustified. Wesley Mouse (talk) 13:19, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

Accept reason:

I agree that you should not have been blocked without any warning or explanation. I suggest reading the policy on edit warring to avoid similar problems in future, if you haven't already read it. JamesBWatson (talk) 13:43, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for reviewing this matter for me, much appreciated. Since the block was put in place, I was frantically reading all information I could about blocking procedures and edit warring. Wesley Mouse (talk) 13:59, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

I still appear to be blocked, is there another step I need to be taking for the unblock to kick-in? Wesley Mouse (talk) 14:02, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

There appears to be an autoblock on an IP address you used, and I have now lifted it. CT Cooper · talk 14:09, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
How bizarre for an autoblock. I wonder if that was due to be using my IP address before registering as a user the other day? Oh well, thank you for looking into that for me Coop. I hope you don't mind me calling you Coop!? Wesley Mouse (talk) 14:12, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
Sorry about that. I am 99% certain that I checked for autoblocks when I unblocked your account and didn't find one. Either I didn't or the autoblock check tool malfunctioned. JamesBWatson (talk) 08:32, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

I award you this barnstar for huge contributions to Eurovision and music related topics. --NovaSkola (talk) 08:20, 6 September 2011 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Wikiquette assistance

Hello, Wesley Mouse. This message is being sent to inform you that there currently is a discussion at Wikipedia:Wikiquette assistance regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. Fleet Command (talk) 18:26, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

Mediation Cabal

After reviewing discussions at MedCab and on FleetCommand's talk page, I am of the opinion that you are no longer a neutral party to this dispute. As mediators, it's our job to navigate the minefields that are Wikipedia disputes. Parties use poor behaviour often, it's our task to refocus the situation, not add fuel to the fire. While I realise you have not been here long, I feel this situation has got out of hand. I have removed you as mediator of the case. If you disagree you can take it up with Xavexgoem (talk · contribs), MedCab coordinator. Try not to take it personally. It's always ultimately about the best interests of the parties, and not ourselves. Best, Steven Zhang The clock is ticking.... 20:44, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

That is perfectly fine Steven; I was going to remove myself as mediator anyway, this shows that intention of mine. I tried everything possible on the mediation case, however I found it bizarre for someone to decline with the reason of "its not personal" only to contradict their statement with personal attacking insults, without even backing up their reasons behind those accusations. It was at that point that I asked the user several times to explain their comment, but instead of them explaining it, they piled on more and more insults. Hence why I sought advice from another editor, before stepping down as mediator. Every attempt to listen to both sides where being over-shouted by one user, which was making it hard to listen to both sides, especially one one person is obviously stomping their feet when things are not going their way; which that again can been seen on the main medcab case, the article talk page, the user's talk page, and on various other talk pages. Its almost as if the user deploys divaish tactics when they are not being told what they want to hear. That isn't being civil, but pure ignorance. Wesley Mouse (talk) 20:51, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
Mediation is a hard and thankless task. Can take months or years of practice, and even then it's hard. It took me forever to gather my toolbox of mediation methods. You'll get the knack of it eventually. My talk page is always open. Best, Steven Zhang The clock is ticking.... 21:04, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
Hey thanks for that Steve. I'll drop by sometime for a cyber cookie or three. I just hope the "disturbed" user looks back on all this, and realise that they may have reacted irrational and uncivilized. Wesley Mouse (talk) 21:07, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

WQA

You have, in my opinion, more than adequately addressed the situation at WQA, and walking away shows strength and maturity. Don't feel that leaving unsubstantiated charges unanswered will result in neutral editors believing them. Your efforts and talents can be far better used elsewhere on Wikipedia. I'd encourage you to move on entirely and make no reply on WQA or anywhere else on WP, as any post anywhere would give the other party something to react to. Gerardw (talk) 23:06, 13 September 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for the feedback and advice; it is most certain taken on board, and puts my mind at rest. Also thank you for handling the case, much appreciated. Regards - Wesley Mouse (talk) 23:16, 13 September 2011 (UTC)
