Wollstonecraft file

The Wollstonecraft image file you are replacing the existing file with isn't working. [1][2][3] Would you mind checking the recent series of AWB edits and correcting any others that contain that broken link? --Anthonyhcole (talk · contribs · email) 15:32, 15 May 2013 (UTC)

Sorry about that not sure what happened, Ive reverted all of those changes. Werieth (talk) 15:39, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
Thanks. Also, I'm no expert but I read a biography of Wollstonecraft once where the author described the Opie portrait as of a "possibly" pregnant Wollstonecraft. The alt text you are inserting uses "a slightly pregnant woman". Unless there is a source asserting it was painted while she was pregnant, can I suggest you use less confident wording? --Anthonyhcole (talk · contribs · email) 15:32, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
Im not modifying any alt text. Werieth (talk) 15:50, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
Would you please fix these:
Anthonyhcole (talk · contribs · email) 05:52, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
Fixed those too, not sure how I missed them the first fix. Werieth (talk) 12:12, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
Thanks. --Anthonyhcole (talk · contribs · email) 13:33, 16 May 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited 2013 Pub Charity Sevens, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Waitemata (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s and 2 "{}"s. If you have, don't worry, just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

Let me guess, your going to be the one who follows me around saying everything I've done is wrong. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Everything's Obscured By Clouds (talkcontribs) 15:40, 22 May 2013 (UTC)

Im not following anyone around, I just noticed that your page wasnt in compliance, removed the files, and saw you re-inserted the files against policy and then warned you. Werieth (talk) 15:46, 22 May 2013 (UTC)
Already, you're wrong. If that was true, every article on here would have files removed. Caperspark (talk) 15:59, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
Not sure which of use your are referring to, but to put this in some context, the page I was referring to was in the user's userspace and not an article, per [{WP:NFCC#9]] Non-free files can only be used in articles. Since the non-article was using non-free files I removed the said file per policy. Werieth (talk) 17:04, 23 May 2013 (UTC)

Question about an edit to the Teahouse/Guests...

Hey Werieth! I'm curious about this edit you made to the Teahouse guests page. Your edit summary says that you removed an NFCC#9 violation, yet the diff says that you only removed a couple underscores from the filename (ie you only changed [[File:Noun_project_6396|45px]] to [[File:Noun project 6396|45px]]). I'm curious to how this page got on your list and not violation was removed. Thanks. Technical 13 (talk) 14:32, 25 May 2013 (UTC)

It was listed as using File:Master Chief in Halo 4.png which was removed with [4] however mediawiki was still seeing it as being used there, I guess a forcelinks purge would have done the same thing, however I already had AWB up removing other stuff it was just easier for me to hit save. Werieth (talk) 14:41, 25 May 2013 (UTC)

Hey

I'm not sure if you had read my homepage, but my template was always going to go, I just had not changed it yet, unfortunately you failed to add my taskbar, If you'd like me to keep it this way until I get round to dealing with it, please add my taskbar to my page, otherwise I will need to revert it temporarily in order to navigate my pages & I do not have time to go through my code, thank you. Simon How can I help? 08:45, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

NZ Flags

You did not put the flag image deletions up for discussion. You acted unilaterally. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia by concensus, not disctatorship. Therefore, unless you can inform me IN CLEAR ENGLISH why you had those flag images pulled, I will feel obliged to restore the images. Expatkiwi Flags are great! 18:40, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

More fair-use images being reported as non fair-use

Please tell me if there is a reason how do these images, (CPFC article), violate WP:NFCC? NFCC certainly does not as you put it 'forbids this'. Atban.3000 write me 21:10, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

Accidentally turning on "helpme"

Hi. With this edit adding a NFC warning, you also made a number of minor punctuation changes to the user's talk ;page. The first of those changes replaced "&#123" with "{" at the start of a "helpme", but the "&123" was there for a reason, to deactivate the "helpme", and the effect of your change was to activate the "helpme" like this and add the talk page to CAT:HELP. I don't know if this was a side-effect of some automatic system like AWB, but I suggest that, even apart from unwanted effects like this, it is better not to tinker with pre-existing sections of people's talk-pages. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 14:13, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

Hello Werieth,

I really don't understand how using Olympiacos emblem in two official Olympiacos departments fails the non-free image policy. This particular image that you removed is used in all Olympiacos' departments such as Olympiacos S.C. and Olympiacos Water Polo Club. The usage of a club's emblem for its official departments is something very common and standard for the wikipedia pages. I really can't undestand how using this image for particular departments violates the non-free image policy, while using it for others doesn't. It really doesn't make any sense whatsoever. And even if it does violate the above-mentioned policy for some inexplicable reason, what really matters is what can we do to address and solve this issue. So, I defer to your expertise and in case you can't do anything I will post to the Wikipedia:Media copyright questions as you suggested me. Thanking you in advance, Gtrbolivar (talk) 15:38, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

The files where missing a rationale for its usage. If you check that link it will provide advice on how to correctly write one. Werieth (talk) 15:47, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

WP:NFCC#8 Contextual significance. Non-free content is used only if its presence would significantly increase readers' understanding of the topic, and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding. There are three lines of text that support those non-free files, one reference and one citation needed. You are attempting to use that very little amount of primarily unsourced commentary to justify 8 files. There just isnt enough there to meet the bar required per WP:NFCC#3 and WP:NFCC#8. Hellenic Parliament Images

Hi Werieth,

Why did you remove the images (and as I can see, many complain about this)? I only used the images already uploaded in the Commons and used in other articles in wikipedia. If there is, indeed, a copyright problem, then you should also remove them from the respective articles for SYRIZA, DIMAR, KKE, etc. Unless I hear an explantion from you within 24 hours, I will undo your changes.

Best regards, Panionios1890 (Panionios1890) —Preceding undated comment added 08:55, 29 May 2013 (UTC)

See WP:NFCC#3, WP:NFCC#8, WP:NFCC#10c, and WP:NFTABLE. Werieth (talk) 08:57, 29 May 2013 (UTC)

When I first read points 3, 8 and 10c, I thought that I could easily do it myself, but then I read about the tables ... I am trying to remove that part of the table with the symbols but I am doing sth wrong and it doesn't look right in the preview. Would you be kind enough to do it for me (after all, you did fix the footnotes to make them look nice - forgot to say thanks for that: Thanks)?

Why did you comment out File:Biennale logo small.png from articles and add a substituted deletion tag to the image without stating a deletion reason, and remove the non-free use rationales from the image in the same edit? --Geniac (talk) 02:27, 29 May 2013 (UTC)

The purpose of use was listed as "illustration" which isnt a valid reason. Werieth (talk) 02:33, 29 May 2013 (UTC)
Ok, but what was the purpose of substituting the deletion tag? Why did you not state a deletion reason using the concern parameter? Why did you remove the rationales? --Geniac (talk) 03:00, 29 May 2013 (UTC)
I tagged it by hand, and thought it should have been subst'ed. I also could have sworn I did include a reason when tagged. Werieth (talk) 03:05, 29 May 2013 (UTC)

Baseball in Puerto Rico (photos)

You have removed photos from Baseball in Puerto Rico several times. The photos relate directly to the subject matter that they accompany. Your editorial comment is that they are "missing a free use rationale for the article."

Perhaps you can explain this for me. My understanding is that free use rationale applies to the acceptance of the initial photo upload into Wikipedia. Once it is uploaded, the photos can be used by editors whenever it is appropriate. The editor of an article is not obliged to provide a free use rationale. Only the uploader of the photo, when he first uploads the photo into Wikipedia.

In addition, my use of the photos is specific, precise, and appropriate to the exact subject matter.

If my understanding is incorrect, I would welcome your comments on this. If you do not respond, I will contact other editors who might help to clarify this point. Thank you for your time and assistance.

Nelsondenis248(talk) 15:37, 29 May 2013 (UTC)

You are completely off base. Each usage of non-free media requires its use to be justified and kept to a minimum. Each use must be in compliance with WP:NFC and have a rationale which clearly defines why the file must be used where it is being used. The uploader is only required to justify the initial usage (See WP:NFCC#7 which requires at least one use). Beyond that whomever adds the file to an article must create their own rationale that explains why the given article must have the specified file. Werieth (talk) 16:07, 29 May 2013 (UTC)
  • Thank you, Werieth. Where am I supposed to provide that rationale -- on the talk page of the article, in the edit summary, or in the File of the image itself? In every Image File I look, I only see the initial upload rationale, licensing info, and the list of file usage. I don't see any individual rationales, other than the original upload rationale. So...where do we provide this rationale info?
Thanks again, Nelsondenis248 (talk) 03:55, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
If you can get me a list of files we can review their usage here, before creating rationales for their usage. As each file you add needs to meet WP:NFCC#8 and some of the files you added in the past just dont meet that bar. Werieth (talk) 04:41, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
  • Thanks again, Werieth. I looked at WP:NFCC#8 and the rest of the ten factors -- frankly, I believe 90% of the current images in our Wikipedia articles do not meet that 10-prong test. But rules are rules, so here goes. Here is the list of images from Baseball in Puerto Rico:
File:LBPRC.png
Currently used in Liga de Béisbol Profesional Roberto Clemente
File:Criollos de Caguas logo.png
Currently used in Criollos de Caguas (baseball)
File:Satchel Paige.jpg
Currently used in Satchel Paige and in List of members of the Baseball Hall of Fame
File:Hiram Bithorn.JPG
Currently used in Hiram Bithorn
File:Page with Fransisco Coimbre.jpg
Currently used in Pancho Coimbre
File:Victor Pellot10.jpg
Currently used in Victor Pellot
File:Leon Day.jpg
Currently used in Leon Day
All of them accompany a parallel discussion in the text of Baseball in Puerto Rico; they were not randomly chosen. There is article discussion of each ballplayer, especially Satchel Paige.
The first image File:LBPRC.png is the logo of the Puerto Rican winter baseball league, known as the Liga de Béisbol Profesional Roberto Clemente. This image appears next to a large section in my article, named "Liga de Béisbol Profesional Roberto Clemente," with several paragraphs that discuss this league.
Thanks for taking a look, Werieth. I know this takes valuable time, and I certainly don't mean to impose. I really appreciate your time and your advice.
All best, Nelsondenis248 (talk) 07:29, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

You are correct there is a large issue with non-free media being miss-used. That is why I am trying to help others get informed about it. Lets take each file one at a time, feel free to comment inline. Can you explain why you must include these images and a link to the main article isnt sufficient?

Why do you need the logo, cant a link to the organization suffice? Werieth (talk) 10:21, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

Werieth (talk) 10:21, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

For all of them, I would say that they illustrate the specific material in the article. Each image (including every ballplayer) corresponds exactly to the text.
The three images I believe are especially pertinent are:
  • File:LBPRC.png -- because an entire section is devoted to it. The article is about baseball in Puerto Rico, and this is the logo of their league.
  • File:Satchel Paige.jpg -- because Satchel Paige's participation was a historic event in Puerto Rican baseball.
  • File:Criollos de Caguas logo.png -- because it illustrates one of the major teams, and there is no commercial infringement or negative usage of the photo.
Thanks again, Nelsondenis248 (talk) 06:11, 31 May 2013 (UTC)

I don't see that WP:NFC#UUI #14 means a general logo is unacceptable. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TonyTheTiger (talkcontribs)

Slow day? Or do you get a real kick out of pissing me off? Those flag submissions I took pains to ensure that they were 'kosher', yet you still knocked them off. —Expatkiwi (Flags Rock!) 12:30, 31 May 2013 (UTC)
