Greetings! Tell me what you think!
[edit]wendy can you upload a picture of yourself on your wiki page that shows your face?
[edit]I can't imagine why you would cover it with a hat. Is there a specific reason?
Mysekurity: Welcome
[edit]Is this the famous Wendy from the Darwin Awards? At Wikipedia??!?! Whoah... Umm... I don't really know what to say, but Welcome! Enjoy your time here, and keep up the amazing books (Lawnchair Larry is always a favorite, as is the guy who cut you off and smashed into the fire truck). In any event, enjoy! -Mysekurity(have you seen this?) 18:21, 27 December 2005 (UTC)
- Wendy to Mysekurity: "I liked your confession, "I'm a habitual comma user, stop me before I comma again." Yes, I'm "the" Wendy Northcutt! Why is your "e" green? And do you suggest the "Semi-protection policy" page, because of what you've seen on the Darwin Awards page? I've noticed some "sour grapes" kind of posts, but overall I'm pretty happy with the Darwin Awards description." Wendy Wendy 06:09, 1 January 2006 (UTC)
Wow! Ta muchly for granting us your presence
[edit]As I might have just figured out from the previous posts, you are the Wendy Northcutt. Wooo! Thanks for gracing us with your existence here, and I'm glad you like what we're all doing. Darwin Awards is a legend - you should try and get a userbox made saying 'This user cracks up at the Darwin Awards' or something similar. I'd certainly have it on my userpage. I'm very glad I've had a chance to get as near as I ever will to meeting the creator of one of the most entertaining factual (well mostly) books in the world. I hope it continues to succeed. —Vanderdecken∴∫ξφ 16:33, 22 January 2006 (UTC)
- Wendy to Vanderdecken: "Hi Vanderdecken, thanks so much for your friendly hello. I looked into UserBoxes and it looked complicated. I'd like to add UserBox 42 to my webpage. If you create a UserBox for me, I'll use it! Best wishes for a long and healthy <grin> life!"
Hi
[edit]Hi, Wendy. Welcome to Wikipedia. I believe we have a mutual friend. Friday (talk) 17:32, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
- Heh. I wasn't trying to be mysterious, I assumed you'd already been told about me by a certain longwinded communist hippie. It's possible I'd be able to help out with your programming situation, at least with some ideas, if not lots of coding. Friday (talk) 15:19, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
- Wendy to Friday: "Ohhh him, yes, indeed we do! <3 He's a sweetie."
Hey
[edit]Are you really the dude who makes the Darwin Awards? If so, you look different than I thought. I thought you would be some middle-aged dude who is a geek, but you're hot!!!
- Wendy to Hey: "Hey yourself, Smartyshoe! Thanks for the compliment; next time, sign your post with four tilda's so I know who is so hot for me: Ms.Darwin, the non-geek non-dude behind the Darwin Awards." Wendy Wendy 01:33, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
- WHatever (in case you haven't noticed, that's my catch phrase for whenever I feel compelled to reply but don't know what to say Smartyshoe 20:16, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
UserBox Created!
[edit]Hi, Wendy! I created a userbox for the Darwin Awards. In case you don't know, a userbox is a small coloured box which contains a small message, so that other users can see your interests and which articles you edit. To add the userbox to your userpage, type {{User:ISD/Userboxes/Darwin Awards}}. ISD 10:50, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you so much, ISD, my dear! Wendy Wendy 02:12, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
you called me "some idiot"
[edit]What controversial snippets?I don't remember exactly how I edited it but it was about the Holocaust. Is that such a controversial thing? Why couldn't that be fascinating too? You aren't too nice.Rich 22:15, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit]as to why you posted a picture of yourself with your hat covering almost your entire face. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.55.3.44 (talk) 12:53, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
Hi Wendy Wendy - on the page for the image above you seem to be trying to limit the use to pages connected with the Darwin Awards. under the GFDL you can not limit use in this fashion. Could decide whether or not you want to release the image under the GFDL and either remove the wording on the page to clear up the confusion or replace the licensing tag with one you are prepared to release the image under? Thanks. -- SiobhanHansa 17:26, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
- PS I also just noticed you stuck a GFDL license on your Darwin Awards logo image. Are you sure you want to release your site's logo under the GFDL? I believe that would pretty much allow any other person who wanted to to use the logo where ever they wished, including on copy-cat sites or books, and to make any adaptions to it they wanted to. This is not something most people want to do with their logos. Obviously you are welcome to release the image, I just want to make sure this is really what you intend. -- SiobhanHansa 17:36, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
Hi Wendy Wendy, Wikipedia basically doesn't allow you to grant permission that limits where and how images can be used. It requires any permission to be under a copyleft type of license. (Wikimedia Foundation's explicit mission is to increase the amount of copyleft material so this is not entirely surprising). Images like the logo can be used under fair use rules - that is Wikimedia is not asking your permission to use it, they are taking (as it were) the rights granted to anyone under case law and the first amendment (I think that's it - not exactly a lawyer here myself!) to use any image under particular circumstances. This means that they will only use such an image in circumstances where they believe they would be legally able to regardless of the copyright holders views on the use (and in fact use is limited by policy even further than that on en.Wikipedia in an attempt to encourage people to produce more copyleft images).
I see you've reverted the permission you granted - that's good if it's not what you intended. You should also add the {{Non-free logo}} template back onto the logo page as that makes it clear the image is copyrighted - this is important for other people to know. The image can continue to be used in circumstances where a fair use rationale can be made - such as to illustrate your website.
For the tree branch image - if you're not prepared to offer that under a copyleft license I don't see any circumstances in which a fair use rationale could be made for it - you should probably put a {{db-author}} tag on the page. At the moment the page still says that you grant permission under the GFDL.
Hope that makes some sense. If you want you can confirm this and possibly get better advice at the Wikipedia:Media_copyright_questions. -- SiobhanHansa 17:58, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
Notability of Clan lurkr
[edit]A tag has been placed on Clan lurkr requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. JohnCD (talk) 19:03, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

File source problem with File:Charles pencil.118.gif
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:Charles pencil.118.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.
If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 23:44, 7 May 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 23:44, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
Story submission form broken on darwinawards.com
[edit]Hello Wendy! Yes, I'm reaching out to you on Wikipedia about your web site. I'm sorry, I know that's lame but I haven't yet found any other way to contact you or site admins and I would rather like to be the first to submit this particular story. :) I'm getting the "Bonehead robot begone begone. In other words, you failed the Turing test! Please go back and type the captcha words." message, although I complete the Captcha challenge. Daniel Santos (talk) 22:08, 23 June 2023 (UTC)
