Speedy deletion of Benford Riders vs Hatch Bottom Thwaites
[edit]A tag has been placed on Benford Riders vs Hatch Bottom Thwaites requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the article or have a copy emailed to you. -Zeus-uc 18:56, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
- I've noted the hangon tag you left on the above-captioned article, as well as your question on the associated talk page. In answer to your question, "What is wrong with this article?" -- as a general rule, Wikipedia does not have articles about individual athletic events unless they are of national-level or international-level significance, such as Olympic competition. For instance, individual games of American football are not given separate articles unless they are the Super Bowl (the championship conclusion of an entire season of a professional league). If there were an article about either of the teams competing in the match in question, it might be appropriate to mention the results of the match as part of the statistics of the record of that team. I trust this answers your question -- for further background you could look at WP:ATHLETE for the analogous policy as it applies to individual athletes. - We seem to have crossed messages simultaneously: I trust the above note is the explanation you require. Accounting4Taste:talk 19:11, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
- I note also that neither team has an article associated with it in existence, which adds to my belief that neither is competing at the international or Test level, or even at the national level. If you're contending that a cricket match that had 21 spectators and whose winner was rewarded with Macdonalds coupons was worthy of an article in Wikipedia, I suggest you look into our notability guidelines and also WP:Why was my article deleted?.
