Trader Joe's Employee Section
[edit]Hello War17. I am adding this to your usertalk page because you appear to have contributed heavily to the Trader Joe's wikipedia page. I have also added the stuff below to the TJ's talk page.
I am concerned that the statement in the entry:
"According to Business Week, Trader Joe's pays better-than-union wages"
. . . is not viewpoint neutral and I would propose changing this to:
"According to Business Week, Trader Joe's pays good wages..." or something similar without the same political overtones.
It's true that this statement is duly sourced from a BW article, however the original source, on this point at least, seems to be editorializing rather than stating an empirical fact. Comparing the worker benefits at Trader Joe's to the wages of a hypothetical union grocery worker seems to be unnecessarily provocative. (There are a number of factors, [job security, benefits, pension, comparing to which union employees exactly etc.] and issues that could be debated in this statement and it doesn't seem like an article about Trader Joe's is the best place to engage in such a debate.)
Personally, I myself shop at Trader Joe's. I usually get what I need there and have a fine experience in general (though I wish they had better that were not packed in so much plastic.) I don't know any employees personally and the small amount of research I've done does not paint TJ's in a bad light so far as labor practices - of which I am glad. However as I said above I don't think the comparison to union shops benefits this wikipedia entry and would propose its removal. Thanks! Zakkenroller 04:34, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
Trader Joe's
[edit]Hi war17, I didn't add references. I merely cleaned the article up, including moving the references to the most appropriate text it matched in the article. If you see a reference that can be used, add some text to the article and use the reference. Clipper471 19:22, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
- Okay— I just looked at what I had done. I did move all the sources to the body of the article, searching for the text that the sources applied best. The Consumer Reports reference was the only one I had to retrieve myself. I retrieved it and placed it after the text reporting, "The October 2006 issue of Consumer Reports ranked Trader Joe's the second-best national supermarket chain in the nation, after Wegmans". Clipper471 19:38, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
- Reference #6 is the one that I am talking about. http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/food/supermarkets-10-06/overview/1006_supermarkets_ov1.htm It is not the Consumer Report talked about. This is the actual report: http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/food/supermarkets-10-06/ratings/1006_supermarkets_ratings.htm?resultPageIndex=1&resultIndex=8&searchTerm=trader%20joe's But requires a CR subscription. So that is why I proposed using this third link: http://www.thedenenbergreport.org/article.php?index=905 War17 15:33, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
Thank for your contributions, the page looks much better. There is still work to be done, but it definitely is not in dire need of attention as it was before, I'll remove the banners. Thanks. Nihiletnihil (talk) 07:08, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
Refer to http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Aldi for Aldi variations. There is a distinct difference between Aldi North and South. Please revert back to the edit I made. EdHayes3 (talk) 04:58, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
Please see the Trader Joe's discussion page, I am awaiting your reply. Thanks. EdHayes3 (talk) 22:53, 9 March 2010 (UTC)
Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising. You are, however, encouraged to add appropriate content to the encyclopedia. If you feel the material in question should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. John254 15:45, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
- Trader Joe's values are who they are and what they practiced. Values is not promotional. I posted the info in Trader Joe's Discussion page and asked if any one had any objection. No one objected in a week. So I posted the info. Whole Foods has a Values section. If it is OK with one grocery chain, it should be good for another.WLee 22:14, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
Dan Bane
[edit]Hi, I deleted this article because of a copyright violation. I also saw your message on the talk page. Feel free to rewrite the article using sources. Facts are not copyrighted, but using the same sentences is a violation. If you do rewrite it, be careful to avoid plagiarism. Happy editing, Garion96 (talk) 16:40, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
The material I removed here reads like advertising copy, which is inconsistent with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy. Additionally, the much of the material is a large, verbatim quotation from a blog entry, for which no reliable sources are cited -- the reference to [3] does not support many of the claims contained in the blog entry. John254 23:52, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
- John, you did not cite what is acceptable, only what is not. The talk was given by the CEO of Trader Joe's. Why is that not a good enough source? I can re-write the words so they are mine, but facts are facts, so they cannot be modified too much. WLee 03:05, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
Quiche image
[edit]The picture was tagged and the uploader was warned that is was a possibly unfree image. The image was released as a GFDL image but the packaging of the quiche and logo of Trader Joe's are copyrighted/trademarked. The image could only be kept under fair use/non-free content but than it would fail the Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria. Garion96 (talk) 08:56, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
Atlanta Locations
[edit]War, Took out the Midtown originally to reflect there are a number of locations in Atlanta. Putting just "Midtown" would imply just one store, which, is clearly not the case as I live about three minutes from one and we are nowhere near Midtown. Bpwatl 11:53, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
- Midtown location in Atlanta is what was the last store opened in Atlanta area, not the only location. The Midtown designation is what TJ's website referred to the opening of the store. Look at the Trader Joe's website. This is the same rationale for Charlotte, NC (South). It will be one of two stores open in the area. Also, you spelled Midtown incorrectly.

I can't really help you much with the Oregondesert citiation thing, but you could remove the blog citiation. I'll tell him that a blog is not enough of a citiation. Iswatch20 (talk) 05:01, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit]My mistake, apologies. Just wasn't sure (what with no reference). Feel free to change it back if you haven't already :D, sorry about the bother. Also it's quite a way to Hollywood ;). Cheers - Kingpin13 (talk) 16:21, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Changes in Trader Joe's retirement policy
[edit]I am unsure why my additions are candidates for removal. The statements I added describing changes in Trader Joe's retirement program are based directly upon material in the letter to employees, which I received because I am a Trader Joe's employee and I received one of the letters. Short of reproducing the letter itself I don't know what further reference I can give. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Snarf2012 (talk • contribs) 03:37, 23 December 2010 (UTC)
I see my additions were indeed removed even though accurate. I am not an experienced Wikipedia contributor. Will somebody please explain to me how I am supposed to add this information to the page? Am I supposed to attach a copy of the letter or something? I thought Wikipedia was supposed to print all factual information, not just that which makes a company look good. Who decided that my addition was inappropriate?Snarf2012 (talk) 00:49, 25 December 2010 (UTC)Snarf2012
Snarf2012, first of all, if you are a Trader Joe's employee, do you have permission to post private information? You need to ask your captain. Second, there are negative things about Trader Joe's in this article. But most of it is good because that is what others write. Third, you need to provide a reference for your source. If you can get a reputable news source to print the letter, then you can reference the letter. WLee (talk) 06:24, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
