My initial projects for Wikipedia are to create biographical sketches for two contemporary leaders of the movement to extend healthy longevity, Vincent E. Giuliano, and Harold L. Katcher. The process is more complicated than expected.Walticular (talk) 22:10, 12 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Walticular

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username John B123, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I’ve proposed an article that you started, Harold Lawrence Katcher, for deletion because it's a biography of a living person that lacks references. To prevent the deletion, please add a reference to the article. You may remove the deletion tag yourself once the article has at least one reliable source.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|John B123}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

@John B123:, I have added a citation that references Dr. Katcher's most recent journal article. More will follow, as I trace through his career.Walticular (talk) 20:46, 10 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

January 2022

[edit]

"Harold Lawrence Katcher (/kætʃˈər/; born January 38, 2034". Why the heck are you adding garbage like that to the encyclopedia? Cullen328 (talk) 18:40, 10 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Cullen328: I did not realize the entry would be subject to scrutiny at this early stage. I simply wanted to get started, and the nonsense birthdate garbage was meant only as a placeholder, to remind me to get his exact birthdate. I am new to this process and progress is slow. Unfortunately, there are some urgent demands on my life, and I can only devote a few hours a week to this pursuit. Can you cut me some slack for a few days?Walticular (talk) 19:45, 10 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No, I will not cut you any slack on content that you add to the encyclopedia. Develop articles as drafts or sandbox pages, and then move that content to the encyclopedia. Do not add garbage to the encyclopedia. Cullen328 (talk) 19:49, 10 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Cullen328: I am not sure where the hostile tone comes from. Perhaps if Wikipedia had a better, step-by-step tutorial system geared to newbies, there would be less mistakes like this. I thought this level of entry was invisible to the public, and essentially inconsequential. I will make corrections right away, and try to plumb the utility of 'drafts' and 'sandbox pages', and use them. Thanks for the help.Walticular (talk) 20:01, 10 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Walticular: Please see Help:Your first article. --John B123 (talk) 21:07, 10 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • You deliberately added false information and you ask why they are worked up? Your actions have been very disruptive, “Perhaps if Wikipedia had a better, step-by-step tutorial system geared to newbies” you are replying to Cullen328 who isn’t only one of the most peaceful and laid back system operators I know, but also one of the most accomplished helpful Teahouse hosts, furthermore, yes we have a WP:TUTORIAL for new editors, only if you had asked before editing, please go to the WP:TEAHOUSE and ask questions there, do not edit articles that are live (on mainspace) without asking pertinent questions first. Honestly please do not ever deliberately add false information on articles it is an egregious transgression. Celestina007 (talk) 22:36, 10 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Every single edit you make (or any other editor makes) is subject to scrutiny. Do not make any edits to encyclopedia articles that are deliberately incorrect. That's just wrong. Cullen328 (talk) 23:29, 10 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of interest

[edit]

You have declared a WP:COI with articles on Vincent E Giuliano and Harold L. Katcher. Is this the case? You edit summary [1] suggests this isn't what you inteded? --John B123 (talk) 21:13, 10 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@John B123: I do not see what is wrong here, so please elaborate a little or rephrase the concern. I said I was planning to make entries for Drs. Giuliano and Katcher (both of whom I am acquainted with), and that remains my current goal.Walticular (talk) 06:37, 11 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Please read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. --John B123 (talk) 07:47, 11 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Harold Lawrence Katcher moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Harold Lawrence Katcher, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. scope_creepTalk 22:34, 10 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Aubrey de Grey into Draft:Harold Lawrence Katcher. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. DanCherek (talk) 06:03, 24 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Draft:Vincent Edward Giuliano (Scientist), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Please read the guidance below:

  • When you write about a person, you must provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that they meet the notability guidelines. Sources that are not acceptable include those linked to the person or an associated organisation, press releases, YouTube, IMDB, social media and other sites that can be self-edited, blogs, websites of unknown or non-reliable provenance, and sites that are just reporting what the person claims or interviewing them. Note that references should be in-line so we can tell what fact each is supporting, and should not be bare urls.
  • Your unformatted bare url refs were a Google search of his books and his own blog, clearly not independent third-party sources. Almost nothing in the infobox is sourced at all
  • Nothing in your text suggest that he meets the notability criteria I've linked above. Being a writer, a scientist or a blogger do not in themselves confer notability.
  • You must write in a non-promotional tone. Articles must be neutral and encyclopaedic, with verifiable facts, not opinions or reviews.
  • There appears to be little point to your article other than to promote his work and his blog
  • There shouldn't be any url links in the article, only in the "References" or "External links" sections.
  • You must not copy text from elsewhere. Copyrighted text is not allowed in Wikipedia, as outlined in this policy. That applies even to pages created by you or your organisation, unless they state clearly and explicitly that the text is public domain. We require that text posted here can be used, modified and distributed for any purpose, including commercial; text is considered to be copyright unless explicitly stated otherwise. There are ways to donate copyrighted text to Wikipedia, as described here; please note that simply asserting on the talk page that you are the owner of the copyright, or you have permission to use the text, isn't sufficient.

Note that the article title is incorrect, it should just be his name Vincent Edward Giuliano. Even if there was an existing article with an identical name, requiring disambiguation, "Scientist" should not be capitalised

Before attempting to write an article again, please make sure that the topic meets the notability criteria linked above, and check that you can find independent third party sources. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 10:35, 15 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very, very much! This is exactly the guidance and info I need. One thing that I am wondering about that might be covered somewhere, but I've not seen it, is where a contributor is to get independent verifiable sources for things like high school attended, where the subject grew up, parental occupations, children's names, etc. In this case, I am in contact with the subject, though he is quite old and consumed with health issues. He has given me a lot of info, but how can those things be realistically verified? Best wishes!Walticular (talk) 19:07, 15 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'll shortly copy the infobox content here, please take an off-line copy, it will not stay indefinitely Jimfbleak - talk to me? 10:35, 15 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
