Moving templates
[edit]I think you'd have to do that manually. I'm willing to help, if you give me a list - I can do some of them around my lunch break.
Let me look at my AWB when I get home and see if there's a function which allows you to move masses of things at once...if there is, I'd quite like to know about it, actually. :-) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 14:36, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi Waacstats, if you have any free time could you possibly help out with some of the stub templates in Category:Stub message boxes needing attention? With your experience you can probably work out how to fix them much quicker than me. Thanks — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 15:23, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

[edit]I had meant to e-mail you on this earlier, but you don't have to worry about anything related to Canoeing at the Summer Olympics. I already have the Olympic events, Olympic medalists, and canoe slalom and sprint world championship medalists done. Stub sorting
[edit]Hey there. I got interested in taxonomy stub sorting lately and I was working in stub creation here. Just wondering, I assume you remove the ones that are done without archiving? And if you object to a split, is there a discussion page for it or can you be bold and remove it? This is my first time working on the WikiProject and would like to do more. Thanks, ZooFari 06:29, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
RioGrandedoNorte-geo-stub
[edit]Hello! I noticed you are the creator of {{RioGrandedoNorte-geo-stub}} and other Brazilian geography stubs templates...however, this one has no specific category like "Category:Rio Grande do Norte geography stubs". Is there a special reason for that or we can create it just like the others? Thank you, Victão Lopes I hear you... 22:35, 12 November 2009 (UTC)
- I understand, thank you. I've just added the template to some articles, and according to its "What links here" page, the criation of the category is to happen soon. Victão Lopes I hear you... 23:17, 12 November 2009 (UTC)

- Mmmm - didn['t notice that you'd redirected them (I was just going by the newpages log). Do you want the incorrect names deleted, or are you happy just to leave them as unused redirects? Grutness...wha? 22:56, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

Please note that the stub type proposals page is highly backlogged, going all the way back to June. This situation means that:
- Users are less likely to propose stub types before creating them - loading the proposal page requires heavy download (just adding up the pages from June to October comes out to 325K). Additionally, users who see this backlog are likely to consider the proposals just an unnecessary peace of bureaucracy, and ignore it.
- Users who do object to some proposal are less likely to comment - the download issues are the same as above, and users will get the impression that the proposed types will never actually be created.
It would be nice if you could close the older proposals (I don't feel confident that I can handle this). עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 14:49, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

You recently added {{US-composer-19thC-stub}} to this article. It seems odd to refer to him as a 19th century composer, since he was born in 1888 and did not start composing until well past 1900. Shouldn't the century refer to the one in which he worked rather than the one in which he was born? Thanks for your feedback. LiteraryMaven (talk • contrib) 16:37, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. - Thanks for your swift response, but being born in a particular country does not mean you're of that nationality. It's difficult in footballing terms to ascribe any particular nationality to someone in the 4 Home nations unless they have played some kind of representative football or made some kind of other firm statement regarding their nationality. Your point regarding his brother David playing for England is a better one, but then their father Bob Jack was born in Scotland and who's to say Rollo didn't feel 'Scottish'? The article Mark Watson (author) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Please note, this article is about Mark Watson the author of "Royal Families Worldwide" and should not be confused with other Mark Watsons. The Notability tag has been on this article for 11 months without it being improved. The only sources listed were produced by the subject himself. The citation for the claim that he has "a reputation for providing straight-forward facts and impartial advise" is taken from the publicity materials for his own book. The article reads like self-promotion. The author's book, "Royal Families Worldwide," his main claim to notability, was first self-published and they reprinted by a vanity press. Despite the article's claim that "He has written books" (note the plural) amazon.com only lists the one book[2] and the author link on amazon.com's page for "Royal Families Worldwide" list only the one book by this Mark Watson[3]. (Note that the books amazon lists as refering to "Mark Watson" actually cite "Mark R. Watson" a different individual[4] and there are other amazon pages for unrelated Mark Watsons.) Amazon does not have a sales rank or a review for "Royal Families Worldwide" indicating that despite its decade in print it has not achieved much notice. I have looked at "Royal Families Worldwide": it has an entry for each current "monarch" which consists of a public domain photo of the monarch followed by a few sentences (filing half a page) stating his or her name, DOB, and other very brief biographical details. In every case, wikipedia's own articles on the monarch in question have much more information than that contained in this expert book. Mr. Watson's other claim to fame is that the served as "secretary" to the ex-king of Rwanda (a man who was over-thrown as a child and has not even visited Rwanda in fifty years) and as "aide-de-camp" to an obscure "prince" of the long overthrown Burmese monarchy. The claims "Prince" Shwebomin of Burma are openly questioned on numerous websites[5][6] and the "prince" does not have a wikipedia article. In short, Watson seems to be the author of an obscure book that no one is reading, a secretary to an obscure monarch, and an "aide-de-camp" to someone who is not notable enough for his own article. At this point, it might be worth noting that if King Kigili's article only moves beyond the "stub" classification by including information on obscure self-proclaimed experts like Mark Watson. I am sure Mr. Watson is a nice person, but he clearly is not notable and this article seems to exist solely as part of a self-promotion scheme for individuals assigning themselves exotic titles in the courts of non-reigning and possibly fantasy royalty. I am sure I have wasted my time writing this since Mr. Watson's friends will surely pop-up to declare his importance.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}

Lower Saxony geo stubs
[edit]Hi. Help me understand why we are breaking down the Lower Saxony geo stubs into districts? I have a particular interest in this state and have created or expanded many of the articles. I find it helpful for stubs to be arranged by state, not by district which most folk on En Wiki will not have heard of. I am willing to assist in driving down the number of stubs. In any case we should not make any changes unless they have been discussed and agreed at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Germany. I have made this points in the stub discussion page which I have only just discovered as it was not alerted to the Project. Gruß. --Bermicourt (talk) 06:58, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
No worries. We may be able to work together on this. I need to look at the category breakdown, but my sense is that districts are too low a level (many of them don't even have normal categories yet), and regions may be better. Incidentally I recently created the regional stub for East Frisia (missing out the geo) without realising there was a formal way of starting new stubs. --Bermicourt (talk) 16:55, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
P.S. I have opened a discussion at the project page, which I hope will help. I can see pros and cons to the district thing, but whatever we do, we need to be consistent and we need to ensure the Germany Project folk know what to do. --Bermicourt (talk) 18:55, 23 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi Waacstats. You just replaced the Lower Saxony geo stub with a Soltau-Fallingbostel one. But Wense is not in Soltau-Fallingbostel district; it is in Osterheide which is an unincorporated area administered by a government official, most of which is part of the Bergen-Hohne Training Area. Can we create an Osterheide stub? --Bermicourt (talk) 06:14, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Dave Esser and footballer stubs
[edit]Hello, I am writing regarding this revision you made [9], as I have an issue regarding the wording of the text for the new template you have added, which implies nationality. You may recall we've had some discussions on this before, see [10] and also [11] at Footy for further background. Basically I am not convinced by the need for all the stub subdivisions of players, and there was no real consensus from others, except Chris Cunningham who said he could see the rationale for more recent decades. However, notwithstanding that, you can see from [12] that I managed to change the wording of one of the English footballer bio categories, although it took some time and involves changing the template text, the stub category text and getting the actual stub category moved. There appeared to be some consensus that this is the right approach. Therefore, I would suggest that further additions to these stub sub-categories are not made until the template/category wording has been amended. I'd welcome any further thoughts you have. Regards. Eldumpo (talk) 18:19, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for your response. I can assist with the task as well. The suggested wording change is as per the template/category change from the Stub deletion log above. This underwent some consensus at Footy, although given that only one category has so far been renamed, then if you wanted a rename now is the time to agree on possible changes. When you say someone else will have to do the deeltions, yes that is what happens when you post the stub deletion request and it gets approved/actioned. However, given the fiddly process involved in doing this (and you can see I needed help to get it posted) it may be better bundling a good few categories together in one request - first time there can always be a link to my original log to show this is part of an agreed process. Eldumpo (talk) 20:55, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
- I have changed the category text and template text for 1890s (see [13] and [14]). As mentioned, I have not changed the category name yet. Were you hoping to be able to start on doing these soon - maybe you want to start with the most recent decades? Eldumpo (talk) 21:38, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

GreatBritain-MP-stub
[edit]You changed the stubs for the articles Francis Fane of Spettisbury and Francis Fane of Brympton. While Spettisbury was in a parliament after 1801 (although mainly before 1801), Brympton was not he was only a member of pre-1801 Parliaments. So do you think the template you added covers all Parliaments after the Act of Union 1707? I ask because the Category:United Kingdom MP stubs suggests it is only for MP of parliaments after 1801 and that {{GreatBritain-MP-stub}} is more appropriate for those before. -- PBS (talk) 03:21, 18 October 2010 (UTC)
- MP stubs and categories are a bit of a nightmare - best to take great care, or leave well alone! You changed the stub type for Sir Thomas Danby from {{UK-bio-stub}} to {{UK-MP-stub}} but that was wrong as the UK parliament only existed from 1801. I've corrected it to {{England-MP-stub}}, which covers pre-1707. In between there was {{GreatBritain-MP-stub}}. There's an explanation at Category:Members of the pre-1707 Parliament of England. Cheers, PamD (talk) 00:09, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
- Another one: Henry Fane of Wormsley died before 1801, should it not be {{GreatBritain-MP-stub}}? -- PBS (talk) 21:06, 7 November 2010 (UTC)
