Your recent edits

[edit]

In this edit you state "stats per Soccerway" - but Soccerway is not sourced anywhere on the article...please remember to add the link if it is not present. GiantSnowman 10:00, 22 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Zakaria Labyad and other Eredivisie players

[edit]

Soccerway isn't great for sourcing Eredivisie and Belgian First Division A league appearances as the website doesn't differentiate between regular league matches and playoff matches as Wikipedia does. Worldfootball.net does a better job there. Regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 06:35, 25 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Robby.is.on, thanks for your advice. Soccerway indeed doesn't show the difference. Worldfootball.net seems much more appropriate. I'll use that one for further optimising stats. Regards, WR227. 22:23, 25 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome. :-) Happy editing, Robby.is.on (talk) 20:36, 25 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

WR227 usually sources their additions. This change seems like it happened by mistake. Was it really necessary to revert all the other changes made by WR227? Robby.is.on (talk) 09:15, 2 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

GiantSnowman, please check my recent edits to SC Cambuur. Has this been done correctly? GiantSnowman, please also check Jordy van Deelen. I updated his career and stats based on the source of Worldfootball. Has this been done correctly. I really want to contribute enriching these pages.

ArbCom 2018 election voter message

[edit]

Hello, WR227. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Adding sources

[edit]

Please add as in-line citations, rather than external links - and please stop converting in-line citations to external links, it's disruptive OK. GiantSnowman 16:26, 3 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Why do you continue to do this? GiantSnowman 16:48, 3 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You're still doing it. If you cannot cite in-line and/or respond to messages then I'm going to have to consider a competency block. GiantSnowman 20:46, 3 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi GiantSnowman. I sincerely see your message above for the first time. Please let me correct Ragnar Oratmangoen's page below. I indeed forgot to mention the source there, but I believe this is an exception. Over the last days I updated teams and players from the Eerste Divisie, indeed mainly by adding an external link, referring to the changes I made for statistics, their height, current club et cetera. Where would the in-line citation ideally has to be placed, since all this updated information is spread over the page? Regards, WR227WR227 16:23, 6 December 2018

OK, last time - you need to add as an in-line citation, particularly if the reference is being used to cite specific information (for example height). Also, you should not remove a career summary from the introduction (as you did here) and you should not link to countries per WP:OVERLINK (as you did [https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Norichio_Nieveld&curid=21358607&diff=872290207&oldid=813887293 here). If I see one more breach then I'll block you for competence. GiantSnowman 13:11, 6 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

GiantSnowman, I wasn't aware of this rule to not link to countries per WP:OVERLINK. Will not do that again. Regards, WR227WR227 16:23, 6 December 2018

Blocked

[edit]
Stop icon with clock
You have been blocked from editing for a period of 3 months for abuse of editing privileges. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=source was added, but incorrectly. I used an external link for the source only instead of in-line citation. I am willing to make the necessary changes and really want to help improving Wikipedia's pages in a correct way.}}.  GiantSnowman 13:13, 6 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, just seen this where you 'cite' information to a non-existent source. You've been warned and blocked about this before. When will you learn? GiantSnowman 13:13, 6 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please see my comment above GiantSnowman. I sincerely forgot to add the source to this page. Please let me correct this. I will now use an in-line citation instead of external link only. I don't think my editing is disruptive, but just incorrectly sourced. Please let me change this for the edits I recently made. This involves most players of FC Den Bosch, TOP Oss, Go Ahead Eagles, Sparta Rotterdam and NEC. Regards, WR227WR227 16:23, 6 December 2018

GiantSnowman, you taught me to add a summary to every edit I make. This always contains the statement I updated the biography, career and stats based on the source of Worldfootball, which I added to the page as an external link. I don't think that behaviour is disruptive and the pages you are referring to above are exceptions. I would really like to continue contributing to the pages of Dutch football. I e.g. created a page for Sydney van Hooijdonk, which to me is a page I think is completely correct. Can we use that page as an example for you to explain me what I should be changing to the other pages? This page e.g. does not contain an in-line citation as a source for his career, stats et cetera. Please give me a final chance. I can also keep you up to date regarding the changes I make, so you can check if these are made correctly. You have now blocked me on based on one big mistake. Request reason:

I understand now that only providing an external link as a source is unsufficient and an in-line citation is needed. I believe the edits I made are still valuable and I am happy to add in-line citations for the changes I have recently made

Decline reason:

A week-long block and a month-long block were not sufficient for you to familiarize yourself with sourcing. Why would we trust you that you understand it now? Three months may be enough, bu we'll see. Vanjagenije (talk) 14:59, 9 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

. WR227 13:36, 8 December 2018

Dear Vanjagenije, I am wondering why the many (i mean MANY) edits I made over the last months were not reverted because of this sourcing issue. I did provide a valid source for them and I added it as an external link, since this is done with so many pages. I have always added an edit summary for the changes I made. Please go over my edit history again and let me know if you believe my changes were not valuable at all. All the pages I edited were outdated and the only thing I wanted to do was to improve them. I sincerely want to ask you to unblock me, because this is absolutely crazy. I believe I deserve more credits for the valuable edits I have made to Wikipedia. WR227, 16:37, 9 December 2018.

WR227, the block has been mentioned at a noticeboard, but your ping does not appear to have been noticed. I suggest you file a new unblock request; that will place this page in a category that brings it to wider administrative attention. Yngvadottir (talk) 20:09, 11 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

borderline bullying

[edit]

I am sorry, but I just looked through this, but what GiantSnowman has done over time wasn't helpful at all and I see it as borderline bullying. WR227, maybe you should pay WP:FOOTBALL a visit, soak up all the information you can get and there is a talk page there if you have any questions. I do hope you continue to try and improve wikipedia, Regards. Govvy (talk) 12:02, 18 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Govvy, thanks for your encouraging message. I'll definitely dive into WP:FOOTBALL and will continue to improve wikipedia. Regards, WR227 21:18, 19 December 2018 (UTC).[reply]

Continued unsourced content

[edit]

@Fram, Govvy, and Galobtter:

So WR227 continues to add unsourced content - see this edit. Neither source present on the page (including the one added by WR227) confirm the Lakanen VV youth career or the MVV youth career years, and the source added shows a different place of birth (Genk) to the one added by WR227 (Lakanen). Your comments on this are welcome. GiantSnowman 08:34, 20 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

How about talking (in person, not through templates) to the editor, who clearly tries to add correct information, but doesn't follow your "everything must be sourced immediately if it is not added by me" mantra? Something like "Hi WR227, I notice you added some information to the article which doesn't seem to be included in the two sources, can you indicate where you found this?". Or even better, you could source the bits you can find online, tag with "cn" the bits which may be correct but are harder to source, and only remove the clearly incorrect bits? And otherwise leave WR227 alone, since you have bullied him enough by now? Fram (talk) 08:54, 20 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I tried talking to them over two years ago (see this and this; it fell on deaf ears) and again in June this year here. How about enforcing BLP policy for once? WR227 also said in their unblock request that they would start using in-line citations - but they are not (1, 2, 3 etc etc. GiantSnowman 08:58, 20 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
"Enforcing BLP policy for once"? You have enforecd your interpretation of BLP policy multiple times here, and you know how that ended. Note that the sources seem to vary, which makes it hard to even judge if what they wrote was right at some time or not. For example I find on Google

"Entdecke Deinen Star Koen Kostons - Alle News & Infos - Ran https://www.ran.de/datenbank/fussball/pe456797/koen-kostons/ - Translate this page Koen Kostons. Land: Belgien; Geboren am: 18.09.1999; Geboren in: Lanaken; Größe: 185 cm; Gewicht: 73 kg; Position: Sturm ..."

but if I actually look at that page now, it says "Geboren in: Genk", no longer "Geboren in: Lanaken". So there are some strange things going on with the sources about this person and e.g. his birth place, and AGF indicates that an editor who usually adds correct information should be given the benefit of the doubt (not necessarily keeping the info in the article, but not "enforcing BLP", meaning in your case blocking them, towards the editor). That he started his youth career in Lanaken, not with MVV, is evidenced by sources like this one. Fram (talk) 09:08, 20 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It's very hard to AGF when this editor knows that sources are required, has said they will add them, yet has continually failed to do so for over 6 years. Stop defending the indefensible. WP:CIR. GiantSnowman 09:19, 20 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Please leave this editor alone. Your opinion is tainted, and your lack of AGF has already led to a dreadful 3 month block recently. As for WP:CIR, see you at the ArbCom case I guess... Fram (talk) 09:32, 20 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@GiantSnowman: You have heard of the 3RR rule, waging an edit war etc. For an admin there is a limit too how much you should interact with any user on wikipedia, once you get past a certain point and you feel are at a dead end you really should pass a user you see as disruptive onto another admin. You should have passed this situation on a year ago! To consistently attack, get involved over this long period of time is unhealthy, it diminishes your judgement. Even if WR227 makes mistakes there is no need to continue this crusade, please pass this to someone else. @Fram: You are also in danger of raising a crusade, it's not just running down a judgement. You need to be a lot more open minded to the situation and I feel you are heavily over analysing, please try and keep it a bit more simple. Govvy (talk) 14:52, 20 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Can you give an example of what you consider "heavily over analysing", I don't immediately get what you allude to. Feel free to raise it on my talk page or at the talk page of the Arbcom case (evidence phase) if it doesn't belong here. Fram (talk) 14:58, 20 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Govvy, I am not searching this user's edits, I only find them when they appear on my watchlist. I am considering ANI in any event. GiantSnowman 15:03, 20 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Removing sources

[edit]

When adding sources (which, again, should be as in-line citations) please do not remove other valid external links as you did here. GiantSnowman 15:58, 26 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi GiantSnowman. The source I removed is not valid, as the link is no longer working. Adding an alternative external link (mainly Worldfootball.net) covers all the information Voetbal International used to provide before. It refers to all sorts of information on the page, whether it is career, stats, height et cetera. If you prefer an in-line citation, what would be the best location to add it, if not referring to a specific sentence but to multiple edits on the page? Thanks for your help. Regards, WR227. 17:03, 26 December 2018 (UTC).[reply]

OK, thanks for explaining! You can use the same reference to cite multiple locations on the page, by using the <ref name = ""> function - like this. GiantSnowman 08:27, 27 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
FYI, if you add a source in-line you do not need to add it as an external link as well, like here! GiantSnowman 10:53, 29 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Marcelo André Veiga Lopes, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Oeiras (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
