[edit]The Original Welcome!
[edit]Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
- How to edit a page
- Editing, policy, conduct, and structure tutorial
- Picture tutorial
- How to write a great article
- Naming conventions
- Manual of Style
- If you're ready for the complete list of Wikipedia documentation, there's also Wikipedia:Topical index.
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Four tildes (~~~~) produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome!
Thanks for your edits: I hope it's not all down the drain!

Porn Vandal
[edit]My comment added to a topic on Ahoerstemeier's talk page:
- It apparently is still being used for vandalism. It appeared on my talk page - put there by .melusin as a redirect, replacing the welcome message. I found it at work - I could have been in big trouble (even lost my job) if someone had seen it on my screen. Thanks for reverting the message so quickly. -- WCFrancis 20:57, 18 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Yes, I hope that image will be gone soon, it seems it is now identified as a copyright violation. And the bug abused by that vandal is also probably soon fixed as well. It was lucky that vandal attacked my talk as well, so I could block him and revert his misdoing quickly. But even without that image and that bug you're never sure not to see porn or other disgusting images placed by a vandal here - but usually such things are noted quickly. What annoys me about that vandal is that he also attacked talk pages of new users, which might scare them away. andy 21:04, 18 Mar 2005 (UTC)
80.58.11.45
[edit]Why did you remove my nomination of 80.58.11.45 from the Wikipedia:Vandalism in progress page? Gorrister 20:31, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Sorry. That was an accident - I had no intention of removing that. There was an error message when I attempted to save an edit on a different user and I saved it a second time. Apparently, this overwrote your entry re: 80.58.11.45. -- WCFrancis 20:40, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC)
FLETC
[edit]Good catch on dual FLETC articles. Although I had a watch on FLETC (I live in the community where the main campus is located) I missed the article with the full name. Doh! WCFrancis 19:18, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Perhaps you can help me. I am confused about Donald W. Usher's position at FLETC. He is with the U.S. Park Police, to whom he is Superintendent for their training program there (I think). I stumbled into this while working on Air Florida Flight 90 and related articles (a story of tragedy and heroism if you haven't read it). I just want to get the wording correct in the articles linked to him. BTW, if you like my talk box on my user page, I can make one for you gratis in about 3 minutes. It helps new messages to go to bottom of your page with a heading. Mine was a gift from another user. Just drop a note bak on my talk page. Nice to hear from you! Mark in Richmond. Vaoverland 19:30, Apr 25, 2005 (UTC)
- I don't know Mr. Usher personally; however, I found confirmation in the The Maryland State Bar Association page. I found no info on the FLETC site; after all there are 81 different agencies that work with the Training Center. WCFrancis 20:57, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Pope
[edit]--Why did you call my addition to the "See also" list vandalism? Is there anything about that article that is historically inaccurate? If the article itself is vandalism, then why hasn't it been removed from Wikipedia? I think it really deserves to be included for those interested in reading about all aspects of Papal history. --Jleon 15:57, 11 May 2005 (UTC)
- My reply - Were you referring to "Most sexually active Popes"? There was no article with that name at the time I checked. Apparently you were creating that as I was mistakenly "correcting" the entry. Sorry. WCFrancis 16:04, 11 May 2005 (UTC)
- Reverted my own edit WCFrancis 16:07, 11 May 2005 (UTC)
--Thanks, I'm sure someone else will be removing it shortly. I just think that since it is a real article it should either be referenced somewhere in the material about the Pope, or removed entirely if it is deemed irrelevant or biased. --Jleon 16:12, 11 May 2005 (UTC)
- I saw earlier edit where entry was Most sexually active popes instead of List of most sexually active popes. Another learning experience. *Sigh* I'm still a newbie. -- WCFrancis 16:17, 11 May 2005 (UTC)
University of Cambridge vandal.
[edit]Posted on talk page for Vaoverland:
- Mark, thought you might like to know about the attempts to disrupt Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Tess khoo coming from a number of IP addresses assigned to Cambridge. Information listed under 131.111.8.96 (talk · contribs) at Wikipedia:Vandalism in progress. I think this constitutes significant vandalism. Is this the right way to report someone for this type of behavior on a VfD page? --WCFrancis 04:24, 14 May 2005 (UTC)
- I am not sure, but I will send a copy of this to a couple of the good folks on WP who probably know. Mark. Vaoverland 04:44, May 14, 2005 (UTC)
Punked

Interesting. One vandal. Eight wikipedians reverting his vandalism.--WCFrancis 17:23, 20 May 2005 (UTC)
81.218.238.113
[edit]Just asked 81.218.238.113 (talk · contribs): "I do not understand "geometric physical theory". Can you explain it? WCFrancis 17:11, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)"
- Reply moved from my User page:
- Hallo, General relativity tries to explain gravitation as a geometric phenomena instead of a series of discrete particle interactions. Cheers -- 81.218.238.113 17:35, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- I would suggest that you make an attempt to build consensus on the talk pages for the articles you have been editing, rather than just reverting repeatedly. Wikipedia is based on neutral point of view (referred to as NPOV) and consensus regarding content. Wikipedia:Wikiquette provides guidelines for editors to go by. WCFrancis 19:33, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit]thanks for the help reverting my userpage, somebody must have vandalized it when I wasn't looking. Jtkiefer 06:01, July 12, 2005 (UTC)
I have rewritten the population cycle article. I would be grateful if you could have a look and see what you think. Capitalistroadster 11:07, 25 August 2005 (UTC)
- I checked out new article and changed vote to Keep. Good work. -- WCFrancis 13:27, 25 August 2005 (UTC)
Aaron Broyles
[edit]Just to let you know an article you have previously put up for deletion has reapeared on wikipedia --- Paulley 09:08, 31 August 2005 (UTC)
- Actually, the page was not been re-created, the 5-day period on Votes for Deletion is not over yet. --WCFrancis 21:02, 31 August 2005 (UTC)
- In future, if you would please use {{subst:vfd}} instead of {{vfd}}, it's easier on the servers and the links to the discussion work. Incidentally, once a page is deleted through VfD, if it is re-created, it then qualifies for Speedy Deletion. --WCFrancis 22:06, 31 August 2005 (UTC)
- Oh right, sorry i should have checked and saw the {{vfd}} template had been removed.... anyway thanxs for the info --- Paulley 14:56, 1 September 2005 (UTC)
- It is now AfD instead of VfD. I can't remember what the "V" stood for.
