Tintin Parodies

[edit]

There have been many Tintin parodies. Some grotesque and others rather good. There are a variety of opinions on them. Some say they would never care to read them. Others say they can't wait to read them. It just depends what your tastes happen to be.

Tintin parodies are technically illegal. Moulinsart own the copyright and can slam you a good fine if they catch you. Eric Jenot's Tintin Parodies site was closed down by Moulinsart in 2004 for displaying Tintin parodies/pastiches/pirates.

"Reporter Pigiste" (Freelance Reporter)

[edit]

This short 3-page (6 half-pages) story was made in autumn 1992 by Yves Rodier. A comic book fanzine (which I forget the name of) organized a contest and Rodier started by asking whether he was allowed to make a story with an already-existing character. The answer was no. So he drew this story telling of Tintin’s first "scoop", based rather vaguely on a scenario suggested in issue No. 1027 of the magazine “Spirou” from December 19th, 1957 (for another comic book contest!).

There’s no need to say that he didn’t win the contest. He was even disqualified because he’d used a character that didn’t belong to him! And then, he had to scramble hand over foot to recover his original boards, which, as by chance, had been found in the magazine CROC’s editor’s personal collection, a big Tintin fan ... Today, only some lucky collectors have this short adventure in their hands. The others who have this adventure have to download it on the Internet.

At the end of the story it announces Tintin in the Land of the Soviets ... Yves Rodier sticks quite closely to Hergé’s initial universe. The scenario is to some extent a prelude to Hergé’s first story.

The color version of this story gives it more depth! The original format of the story is that of the traditional A4 sheets. They are presented in the form of 3 or 4 images each strip. Two strips are presented per page. The format 21 cm x 29,7 cm was not necessary.

This parody has been translated by Chris Owens.

"Objectif Monde" (Destination World)

[edit]

A big surprise was in store for Tintinologist readers of Le Monde on January 28, 1999. To celebrate Tintin’s 70th “anniversary” and the Comics Festival in Angoulême, the Parisian newspaper published a pastiche by David Savard entitled "Destination World". The big surprise was that the Hergé Foundation gave its authorization and allowed the publication of this first “official” pastiche, fully approved by Hergé’s beneficiaries. The short story, 26 pages long, tells the adventures of Le Monde’s young reporter Wzkxy, nicknamed Tintin because of his passion for the character, with multiple allusions to the adventures of Tintin. In short, Savard succeeded in creating a very nice tribute to Hergé as well as a new collectors’ item...

The story is particularly rich in historical references. The plot is enthralling and the end surprising.

Wzkxy, the hero, is so obsessed with the character of Tintin (and we can see that from the start) that he thinks that Snowy is really at his side!! This Tintin-clone inquires into the existence of a new story by Hergé whose roots are in Tintin in the Land of the Soviets. This story was much more than a comic book! It was the real purpose of a secret agent! Hergé himself was in the know and his stories were secret messages sent by the USA to the Soviet bloc! Many characters from the adventures of Tintin appear. Castafiore owns the newspaper “Le Monde”, the Thompsons keep their role as police officers, Calculus emerges from his shark-sub, etc... Even Rastapopoulos appears at the center of the plot.

This parody sometimes goes for over €30 at Internet auction sales! Some crafty people make a very productive trade on the Web with scanned versions... But one pirater took the care to remake a tidy edition which resembles the original "newsprint" version from Le Monde. The book has a hard-bound cover: with blue back, dark blue title pages, format 23 x 16 cm. This "luxury" recycling was made by an amateur in 12 copies (that’s what he says).

In 2003 on the site "Naufrageur.com" there was a color version of David Savard’s famous parody published in the world "Destination World". This color application with shading was made by 3 people in 4 weeks at the rate of several hours per page. Virtually at the same time the talented Icelandic Bjarki presented a splendid "solo" color version.

This story is a true success, congratulations to Savard for having conceived such a coherent adventure in only a few pages and for paying much homage to the characters from the books (practically not a frame escapes from this exercise). The story becomes a true tracking game.

This book was translated by Vlipvlop (pseudonym) in early 2006.

"Les Harpes de Greenmore" (The Harps of Greenmore)

[edit]

The warning on the back cover specifies the author’s intentions. Once seen, the message is clear! Tintin, because he represents "adventure and imagination", is requisitioned here to promote a noble cause: "Ireland’s reunification". The author speaks about homage to Hergé. He is completely conscious of his graphic limits and he underlines his will not "to abuse" the appearance of Hergé’s characters.

The story starts with Calculus’s kidnapping (he was invited to a congress about intellectuals vs. terrorism). Of course everyone immediately suspects the IRA (Irish Republic Army)! But the plot becomes complicated and takes us through divided Ireland and we end up discovering that the perfidious Albion concocted the whole business to discredit the IRA.

Technically this 1986 comic book was made mainly with scissors/glue/photocopier. Many images were diverted with hardly any modifications (apart from the texts). The new images are numerous and are of a rather unequal quality. Graphically there are countless awkwardnesses, but that does not impede the reading quality much. The setting is rather well conceived but to zap through certain passages is not recommended (frequent and brutal ellipses) if you want to understand the plot fully.

This book has never been translated into the English language.

License tagging for Image:B&M GP1.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:B&M GP1.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Fair use rationale for Image:Tometmillie.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Tometmillie.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Herr Mops.png

[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:Herr Mops.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 12:31, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Hi Vlipvlop!
We thank you for uploading Image:Tometmillie.jpg, but there is a problem. Your image is currently missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. Unless you can help by adding a copyright tag, it may be deleted by an Administrator. If you know this information, then we urge you to add a copyright tag to the image description page. We apologize for this, but all images must confirm to policy on Wikipedia.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks so much for your cooperation.

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Bellum.jpg}

[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:Bellum.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. My apologies, I accidentally removed a few of your edits (twice!). I think I have restored them all. Thanks for all the hard work you put into those! Fram (talk) 12:09, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Dropsy2.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Dropsy2.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:10, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Colonialsymbol.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Colonialsymbol.jpg. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Ticonderoga (radio) has been reverted.

Your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove unwanted links and spam from Wikipedia. The external link you added or changed is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. The external links I reverted were matching the following regex rule(s): \bblog(?:cu|fa|harbor|mybrain|post|savy|spot|townhall)?\.com\b (links: http://colonialradio.blogspot.com/). If the external link you inserted or changed was to a blog, forum, free web hosting service, or similar site, then please check the information on the external site thoroughly. Note that such sites should probably not be linked to if they contain information that is in violation of the creator's copyright (see Linking to copyrighted works), or they are not written by a recognised, reliable source. Linking to sites that you are involved with is also strongly discouraged (see conflict of interest).

If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. I have nominated The New Dibble Show, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The New Dibble Show. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Proposed deletion of Ticonderoga (radio)

[edit]

The article Ticonderoga (radio) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not notable. Has not received significant coverage in reliable, independent sources.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
