Saw Trap

[edit]

Actually, that wasn't me. I missed the Spike TV Scream awards and haven't seen a re-run so I haven't the slightest I idea if it is true. My last edit was for a new trap I viewed on the trailer, not Troy's trap. -Lindsey8417 09:04, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well actually the watchlist just lists the articles latest change, not anything previous to it. So the person's edit before my edit wouldn't show up. Anyways, through the 'Saw 3' history page I was able to find User:Smoke Rulz is the one who made that edit. -Lindsey8417 09:12, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, if you ever need any help or have a question, I'm pretty much adicted to Wikipedia, so feel free. Its nice to see someone actually my age. Yea, I saw the edit, but I didn't realize it was the same trap. Nice work. -Lindsey8417 09:22, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Its actually very easy. On the top right hand corner of the page you should see a link that reads "my preferences" or just type http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Special:Preferences . It should take you to a page where you can input what you want your signature to be. -Lindsey8417 09:35, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
n00bish? Ok, well try putting in the code that you inputed on the User:ViperBlade/Sig page. I would retype it, but the thing just shows your signature again.-Lindsey8417 09:50, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ok try typing this into the signature thing on the "my preferences" page:

<big>''' [[User:ViperBlade|<font color=#00D500>ViperBlade</font>]] '''</big><small>[[User_Talk:ViperBlade|<font color=#008800>Talk!!</font>]]</small>
-Lindsey8417 10:01, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Did you check the little box next to the signature thing that says "Raw Signature" with the code I gave?-Lindsey8417 10:23, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Great. Sorry I couldn't help. -Lindsey8417 10:33, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have been using the ~~~~, but didn't know how to make it with colors and much more custom. So thanks for telling me about it on your user page, I may change mine sometime. -Lindsey8417 10:47, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

{{editprotected}} tags

[edit]

Why are you placing {{editprotected}} tags on the talk pages of articles that aren't even protected? --  Netsnipe  ►  14:13, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey. I wanted to upload two images for My Chemical Romance singles but when I clicked on the "nocover.gif" image, it came up with "This high-risk template has been protected from editing to prevent vandalism. Please discuss changes on the talk page. You may use {{editprotected}} on the talk page to ask for an administrator to make an edit for you.". So I placed the editprotected template on the discussion pages. Obviously I did something stupid, lol. I'm new to editing Wiki, so sorry about any cockups.  ViperBlade Talk!! 15:34, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That's because you were trying to edit Image:Nocover.gif, the placeholder itself. Edit the article and add an image link to the "Cover" field within {{Infobox Single}} --  Netsnipe  ►  15:38, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your AFD nomination was incorrect (for Famous last words)

[edit]

Please review Wikipedia:Articles for deletion for the proper method of making an AFD nomination. The first template goes on the article page not the talk page. So it should be at Famous last words not talk:Famous last words. And then you have to set up a discussion page with the second template and list your reasons for deletion under the wikipedia policies. Finally you need to list the talk page on the AFD page (all this is expalined much more clearly in the AFD instructions) so people will know to comment on it.

Let me know if you still have questions or problems. (If you tell me why you think it should be deleted I'll complete the nom for you.) RJFJR 20:10, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:JeffTapeRecorder.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:JeffTapeRecorder.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Fair use rationale for Image:Flyleaf-Flyleaf.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Flyleaf-Flyleaf.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG 15:50, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I noticed you changed the link on the article from the Saw page to the Saw (short) page. I was wondering whether I should now re word it, because the link doesn't go to where the text says it should, or I could change it back and add a new sentence with the link in it? — Movie Junkie 16:27, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've sorted it, in the sentence "Wan and Whannell made a short of the film, Saw to showcase the intensity of the script" I've linked the word "short" to the short movie that was made. — MovieJunkie Talk! 12:44, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I hope you don't mind but I just wanted it to sound right. :) I was glad however that you mentioned having a link to the short, it's a great deal better now. — MovieJunkie Talk! 16:16, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The WikiProject Saw Newsletter

  • The project has currently 19 members.
From the Members

Welcome to the second issue of the WikiProject Saw's newsletter! Use this newsletter as a mechanism to inform yourselves about progress at the project and please be inspired to take more active roles in what we do.

It's now "Saw Weekend" and Saw IV has been out for a couple of days now. (If you haven't seen it, don't worry, I won't spoil anything for you.) Because of this, a lot of the articles are probably going to need a bit of work. I'll go into more detail on other various sections. All in all, a lot of the 'challenges' from last month's newsletter are still here. Since the release of IV will probably be the last major release of info at least until next year's V we could probably just try to improve the information we already have.

We would encourage all members to get more involved and if you are wondering what with, please ask. CyberGhostface 18:17, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pages Needing Cleanup
  • List of traps in the Saw film series: This survived deletion, but it was recommended that we change the article a bit.
  • Detective Eric Matthews: This article could use a bit of clean-up to make it less in-universe. Since he's one of the few recurring characters outside of Jigsaw and Amanda, we could probably base it off off their formats.
Current Debates
Monthly Collaboration
  • Last month's monthly collaboration was Saw (film). As a guide, look at other featured horror film articles such as Halloween (1978 film) and Night of the Living Dead. More external information (such as behind the scenes, reception, etc) should be added if possible. A new one hasn't been decided yet. My suggestion would be to either work some more on Saw's article, or perhaps start a new collaboration.
Newsletter Challange
  • Try to make the character articles more encyclopedic by making them less in-universe. See Jigsaw and Amanda's articles for guidance. Also see Jason Voorhees, which is a featured article. (Obviously there is more information on Jason available than the Saw characters, but it is worth looking at to see what's considered the best of the best.)
  • Some of the plot articles seem to be overtly long. Without bowdlerizing them, maybe we could try to make them a bit shorter and concise.
  • Try to invite more members to this project. If you know any Saw fans who are good with computers, invite them to Wikipedia. The more the merrier.

However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Doctorgordonsaw.PNG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Doctorgordonsaw.PNG. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 05:03, 2 January 2008 (UTC) [reply]

WikiProject Saw January Newsletter

The WikiProject Saw Newsletter
Issue III - January 2008

Happy New Year, everyone!

Not much of a newsletter for today...I just wanted to report that OfficialSaw.com's website has undergone a massive renovation and has added character profiles and trap descriptions and the like. Why am I telling you this? Because it appears that our Wikipedia articles have been used for the site! (Check out the House of Jigsaw history section for one example). So feel proud, knowing that the articles that you have worked on have garnered notice from the folks at LionsGate...

Disputed non-free use rationale for Image:Mi3CD.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:Mi3CD.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 16:38, 22 August 2008 (UTC) [reply]

WikiProject Saw October 2008 Newsletter

[edit]

The WikiProject Saw Newsletter
Issue IV - October 2008
Member news
  • The project has currently 29 members.
From the Members

Welcome to the fourth issue of the WikiProject Saw's newsletter! Use this newsletter as a mechanism to inform yourselves about progress at the project and please be inspired to take more active roles in what we do.

Another year, and another Saw. The penultimate(?) entry to the series, Saw V, will becoming out in less than two weeks.

We would encourage all members to get more involved and if you are wondering what with, please ask. CyberGhostface 18:17, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pages Needing Cleanup
Monthly Collaboration
  • Perhaps for the remainder of this month (and the next couple of ones) we can work on Saw V's article. I have a feeling once the film comes out the page will be filled to the brim with information, a lot of which could be trimmed. The other film articles could use some work as well.
Newsletter Challange
  • Important Right now the biggest challenge is to save List of traps in the Saw film series from deletion. There are two things that can be done. First you can go to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of traps in the Saw film series (3rd nomination) and voice your argument as to why it should be kept. Important: read over Wikipedia:Arguments to avoid in deletion discussions. Saying stuff like "Saw rules, it should be kept" will not help at all. Just as important: improving the article so it has a fighting chance. I.E. Focus less on plot of the films but more "real world" information...I.E. the traps' impact on popular culture, reception they may have received, cited comparisions and allusions to actual devices (just pulling comparisions out of thin air would be original research.
  • Try to make the character articles more encyclopedic by making them less in-universe. See Jigsaw and Amanda's articles for guidance. Also see Jason Voorhees, which is a featured article. (Obviously there is more information on Jason available than the Saw characters, but it is worth looking at to see what's considered the best of the best.) Because of the nature of the series, poorly written articles could be considered 'deletion-bait' and 'cruft'...the better written the articles, the less likely this would happen.
  • Some of the plot articles seem to be overtly long. Without bowdlerizing them, maybe we could try to make them a bit shorter and concise.
  • Try to invite more members to this project. If you know any Saw fans who are good with computers, invite them to Wikipedia. The more the merrier.

Actually, you probably shouldn't participate in the AFD now...apparently notifying you because you were interested is against the rules.--CyberGhostface (talk) 23:43, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Message from the My Chemical Romance task force

[edit]

Hello!

You may be interested to know that the WikiProject My Chemical Romance has recently been transformed into a task force of WikiProject Emo. Please visit the task force page to see what's new. This move allies the task force with a larger WikiProject that handles much of the administrative overload, thus allowing task force members to focus on the most important activity: article improvement.

The project's membership list has also been moved to the new task force page. If you see that your username is in the "Inactive/former members" section, please do not take offense; this is because you no longer appear to be active on Wikipedia. We may also take the liberty of removing the member userbox from your userpage if it appears there, to prevent you from automatically appearing in Category:My Chemical Romance task force members. Of course you are free to rejoin the task force and re-add the userbox at any time if you would like to become active again.

For active editors, it is our hope that this change will help spur you to improve articles related to My Chemical Romance. You may have noticed that the old My Chemical Romance project userbox on your user page has automatically changed to the new task force userbox. We may take the liberty of fixing the template link on your userpage, to avoid redirects.

Thank you and we hope you will continue to support the My Chemical Romance task force!

WikiProject Saw September 2009 Newsletter

[edit]

The WikiProject Saw Newsletter
Issue V - September 2009
Member news
  • The project has currently 31 members, a mere 2 member growth over last year :( encourage new members!
From the Members

Welcome to the fifth issue of the WikiProject Saw's newsletter! Use this newsletter as a mechanism to inform yourselves about progress at the project and please be inspired to take more active roles in what we do.

It happens once a year... the Friday before Halloween... yes, the sixth Saw is less than a month away from release. Seeing as there is already a director and writers attached (See Here), VI will most likely not be the final entry to the series. Saw VI will be released in theaters on October 23rd.

Also, a Saw first, a video game is coming to join the Saw family. Not based on any movie in particular, the game has an original story set between the first and second Saw films. The game will release alongside Saw VI in October.

We would encourage all members to get more involved and if you are wondering what with, please ask either user CyberGhostface or user GroundZ3R0 002, they are more than happy to direct your help into any part of Saw that needs it.

Article News
  • The Saw (video game) article has reached a 'C' class on the quality scale for all Wikiprojects that has it in their scope. A new high for upcoming Saw products and upcoming video games in general.
  • Saw VI has received an official plot synopsis which has been incorporated in the article.
  • The amount of articles in the scope Wikiproject Saw has greatly increased from roughly 23 (active) articles to 40, almost double in one year!
Pages Needing Cleanup
  • Seeing as how we lost List of traps in the Saw film series, we must form together to prevent the other articles getting the same treatment.
  • All real-life actors or directors associated with Saw (James Wan, Tim Palen, Tobin Bell) could use an overhaul to avoid "in-universe" writing perspectives.
  • Saw VI could always use formatting updates and touch-ups to grammar, punctuation, etc.
Monthly Collaboration
  • Not a big surprise, we need to focus on getting the Saw VI article up to par with the rest of the articles. Obviously because it has not been released, it won't be possible to make it as good as the other film articles, but it could still be improved. Try to make its article in the same format (Plot, Cast, Production, Promotion, etc.) as the other films for a start.
Newsletter Challenge
  • Update all Saw articles to include updated information referencing other Saw articles. For example, update the Saw (2004 film) article section on the Saw game for updated release and info.
  • Create an "Impact In Popular Culture" section on Saw articles, seeing as how it is the highest grossing horror franchise in history (before and after inflation).
  • As noted above, the Saw Wikiproject has only grown by two members in an entire calendar year. So, invite new members, show them the ways, and let them know how they can help.
  • The Saw Wikiproject has encountered a drought as far as updates and new information goes. Keep adding new Saw articles as they go along, give new information, and keep the page going in general.

Saw

[edit]

Hello there, I noticed you are a member of the Saw task force, and therefore have foreknowledge of the Saw series, making you an editor with qualifications to review an article under the scope of Saw. I hope am I not bothering your editing, but I would like to bring to your attention that List of Saw media is currently being reviewed for a possible featured list status, but there is currently a major backlog in the amount of articles waiting to be reviewed. I would like to encourage you to participate in the discussion, found here, if you are interested. If you believe I am disrupting your editing or that my message was an attempt to sway your opinions per WP:Canvas, please let me know so I may fix my methods of bringing this conversation to editors attention, I am simply trying to prevent a backlog on the WP:FLC page. Happy edits, GroundZ3R0 002 (talk) 05:41, 22 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

More information needed about File:Higs Logo.svg

[edit]

Hello, ViperBlade!

It was really helpful of you to upload File:Higs Logo.svg, but in order to keep new images, we need to know their exact source and copyright status.

If you can edit the description page and add that information, that would be great. If you're not sure how or would like some help, please ask us at the media copyright questions page and we'll be happy to assist you.

Thanks again! --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 13:06, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:10, 7 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
