Pickup Truck Racing

[edit]

You're welcome for the help, but as it stands the page needs a fair amount of work. I'll try to list my concerns.

  • The article is overwhelmed with images. Wikipedia:Guide to layout states that this should be avoided. It appears that there are several which are there only to be visually appealing, so I think some of them ought to be taken out.
  • The driver pictures don't really add anything to the article. The article is about Pickup Truck Racing, not the individual drivers in question. If the drivers had their own articles, then portrait photos could be included in them.
  • The "Technical Specification" section looks to be lifted off of the official website. This is a breach of copyright and isn't allowed, so it needs to be replaced.
  • I think that in order to improve the layout of the page, information on the individual seasons should have their own pages, i.e. the 2007 information could be moved to a new page called "2007 Pickup Truck Racing season".

Apologies if I'm coming across as someone who's out to spoil the fun, but Wikipedia has its policies and the issue of copyright is a bit of a touchy subject around here. As a guideline, a free use image is always a good way to go. If it is absolutely impossible to get a free use image then as a last resort you can use an image citing fair use, but these images have to really add something to the article and are usually low resolution so that the copyright holder's rights are not infringed.

I'm willing to work on the page to try and get it up to a good standard. Readro 19:10, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There is a way to do it officially. It involves the copyright holder emailing a Wikipedia email address which logs the permission in their database. I'll look into it and get back to you because I can't remember how it works! Readro 19:56, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Found it! Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission details what you need to do. It looks as though you need to persuade them to release the pictures under a free license to be able to use them. Readro 20:07, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Your AIV report

[edit]

Thank you for making a report at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Reporting and removing vandalism is vital to the functioning of Wikipedia and all users are encouraged to revert, warn, and report vandalism. However, administrators generally only block users if they have received a recent final warning (one that mentions that the user may be blocked) and they have recently vandalized after that warning was given. The reported user has not yet been blocked because it appears this has not occurred yet. If this user continues to vandalize after their final warning, please report them to the AIV noticeboard again. Thank you. -- lucasbfr talk 10:33, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have proposed to revert your recent edit to Template:Grading scheme. Let's discuss it on the article's talk page. Thesmothete 16:25, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your warning to 195.22.28.18

[edit]

In checking a different edit made by 195.22.28.18, I noticed that you gave him/her a vandalism warning for this edit. Please note that since Gerald Ford was born Leslie Lynch King, Jr., is cannot be vandalism to add that information to the introduction. I have no doubt you were unaware of that fact (although it was already contained later in the article), but you need to be careful when you call an edit "vandalism". -- DS1953 talk 04:00, 28 June 2007 (UTC) Harry Tuffins This page is at risk of deletion. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:V8trophylogo.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:V8trophylogo.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 16:13, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Vauxhall VXR8.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Vauxhall VXR8.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:14, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Astronomy Cast - episode articles

[edit]

Hi. I've dropped this note onto the talk page for Astronomy Cast, but thought I'd better copy it here as well, just in case ! It's about your suggestion to create a page per episode.....

Umm...be careful there - creating a 'page for each article' will possibly be contentious - there's always been something of a debate about whether individual episodes of a tv/radio/whatever programme deserve their own page, and this seems to vary depending on how popular a show is, but more often on how much fuss is made about it.

For example, 'Lost' and the current (most recent) version of 'Battlestar Galactica' do have a page per episode (then again, they've also got their own Wikiprojects !), but 'Malcolm in the Middle' only has a summary (see List of Malcolm in the Middle episodes), and the 1970's 'The Incredible Hulk' series has no episode summaries at all.

Now, I'll admit that the examples I gave may not be the most suitable - the main bugbear is satisfying WP:N - i.e. there (technically) has to be some 'real world' notability for an episode to deserve its own article page and, as you can probably appreciate, it's often difficult to establish notability for a fictional series! Astronomy, being a 'hard' science should therefore be easy to justify, I hear you cry....well..not necessarily - even looking at the seminal 'Cosmos' television series by Carl Sagan, that only has a brief summary list of the episode contents within the main article itself, and the TV series 'The Universe' only gets Episode list of The Universe (TV series).

So....if you create a page per episode, you may manage to sneak them in 'under the radar' so to speak, but on the other hand, you MAY get editors removing the links - I've seen it happen before - and the arguments/wars/bans and bad feeling that results from it. So, as a friendly note of caution, make sure you've read and understood WP:N, WP:PODCAST and WP:WEB before proceeding :-) CultureDrone (talk) 07:22, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Possibly unfree File:Wilky.jpg

[edit]

A file that you uploaded or altered, File:Wilky.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree files because its copyright status is unclear or disputed. If the file's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. You may find more information on the file description page. Wow, your friend has excellent photoshopping abilities! My brother can do that too. Technically, you should get the permission of the person who actually snapped the picture, but it's a lot easier and cleaner if we'd just use the picture that you took. Nice shot! Thanks for splitting out that article. I took the other picture in the pits at an Formula Libre-type exhibition at Road America. Royalbroil 12:25, 5 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Violentbob! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 3 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 8 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

The article Jet Bike Steve has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Film not in filming or even in production. No IMDB hit. Appears to fail WP:NOTFILM.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ttonyb (talk) 14:50, 25 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Jet bike steve.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Jet bike steve.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ttonyb (talk) 20:41, 25 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Jet bike steve.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. ttonyb (talk) 20:42, 25 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Parmo

[edit]

Hello Bob. I tried to do a tidy-up of the article on the Parmo and you undid it all. Could you please explain what you object to. I am very happy to change anything I did which is inaccurate or inappropriate, but I don't think everything I wrote deserves this. Let's resolve this amicably. Kind regards Guffydrawers (talk) 08:17, 26 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Bob. Thanks for your reply on my talk page. I see you've done a lot more than restore any missing references, you have undone pretty much everything I wrote. The aim of my efforts was to make the article more suitable for Wikipedia by trimming unsubstantiated claims and what could be seen as blatant advertising, as well as improving the structure. I hope you won't mind if I have another go at this - taking good care not to remove any valid references. I don't want to start an edit war or annoy you - so please give me a chance and give me detailed criticsm of what you disagree with rather than just undoing it all. Thanks and kind regards from Darlo. Guffydrawers (talk) 14:16, 26 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Bob. I have edited the article to what I think is an improved version. I've tried to ensure that all references are intact and have added an extra one. Much of the content is just re-ordered, not deleted, so please don't think I'm trying to be destructive. I removed the bit about Neal Aberdeen at GiGis because I can't find any evidence to back it up. Best wishes Guffydrawers (talk) 15:10, 26 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:Parmo.JPG

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Parmo.JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. File source problem with File:Steve "Dancey" Dance.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Steve "Dancey" Dance.jpg.

If the necessary information is not added within the next seven days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 14:33, 16 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Mark Willis.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Mark Willis.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

If you take this step, add {{permission pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 07:29, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
