Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed content from Henri Nouwen. When removing text, please specify a reason in the edit summary and discuss edits that are likely to be controversial on the article's talk page. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the text has been restored, as you can see from the page history. Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, such as in Wikipedia:Help Desk, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you. Redfarmer (talk) 01:32, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please try to understand

[edit]

I understand that you would prefer that Henri Nouwen was not gay, and as he was, you would prefer that it were a secret. However, as he was, and as this has been well documented in reliable sources, and as his struggle to reconcile it with his spiritual life is important and relevant to his career, it is important to discuss it in the article. We write about subjects as they are, not as we would prefer them to be. The paragraph was carefully written and edited to be simple, fair, and thoroughly cited, and was discussed by many. Although the talk page is full of people who are not familiar with Wikipedia's rules and so think it's okay to 'whitewash' a person's biography, the editors on the talk page who know the policies have instead worked to address the question tastefully, simply, and fairly. You may not delete the section, although if you think the way it is written can be improved, you are welcome to suggest changes on the talk page. Of course, the rest of the article could most certainly use development. I've thought about working on it myself, but haven't had time to do the research on his career; if you have the sources that would be needed to develop the article, that would be so much more useful than just edit-warring over the blanking of this section. -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 15:23, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
