Thank you for your recent contributions. Getting started creating new articles on Wikipedia can be tricky, and you might like to try creating a draft of your article in draftspace or in your userspace first, which you can then ask for feedback on if necessary, with less risk of deletion. Do make sure you also read help available to you, including Your First Article and the Tutorial. You might also like to try the Article Wizard, which has an option to create a draft version. Thank you. '''[[User:CanonNi]]''' (talkcontribs) 01:19, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hi Vazulvonal of Stockholm! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at List of Nobel laureates by country that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Thank you. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 18:38, 27 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

List of Nobel Laureates by Country

[edit]

I appreciate your efforts to bring the list up to date, but you can't just slap new names at the end of the list. They need to be in chronological order, with the category of the award. You also need to make sure that you capitalize nationalities. Also, the religion of the winner is irrelevant. Thank you. Bkatcher (talk) 14:24, 29 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Vazulvonal of Stockholm. Thank you for your work on Attila Krasznahorkay. Another editor, Ldm1954, has reviewed it as part of new pages patrol and left the following comment:

I see no indications of major awards or an extensive publication record. Unless this can be demonstrated it is probably better to turn this page into a redirect to X17 as that page already has more information. I will hold on this to give you a chance to find more that would prove that he is notable.

To reply, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Ldm1954}}. (Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.)

Your edits

[edit]

Looking at List of Hungarian Nobel laureates, why have you added a part of the problematic edits back in (such as the "One Grandparent" section)? The whole article is a mess, to be honest, as it's full of original research, poor quality sources (e.g., "Geni"), editorializing, grammar issues (e.g., writing countries without a capital letter), et cetera. This is Wikipedia, a site that needs to be build on reliable sources and encyclopedic language, it's not a site for self-promotion or for promoting nationalistic views. Hi!
Wish to be upplockad.
Others have referred to sources I have used like Geni and even the Nobel site.
The Nobel site has also been called bad source...regarding Bárány I think.
There seems to be some misunderstanding or maybe sometimes not-understanding regarding Nationality at birth, especially for Hungarians
According to Hungarian nationality law a child born before 1957 by a Hungarian father automatically becomes a hungarian citizen.
Bárány and Polányi were born outside Hungary, but are generally included in Hungarian list.
Same rule should be applied for others.
In good sources (Deutsche biografie also mentioned as a bad source) Báránys mother is born in Prague, then Austria.
Austro-Hungary were two countries and different passports.
Liszt children, with not Hungarian mother, born outside were also hungarian citizens e g.
Best regards Vazulvonal of Stockholm (talk) 12:28, 22 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'll leave consideration of this to an uninvolved administrator. You can request unblock from an uninvolved admin by placing {{unblock|your reason here}} on this page, curly brackets and all. Replace "your reason here" with your actual reason for being unblocked. Note also this discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents. Bishonen | tålk 12:51, 22 December 2024 (UTC).[reply]
The Nobel Prize website and Neue Deutsche Biographie were not called "bad sources", I called them unsuitable because they did not support your text (that Bárány was a Hungarian citizen, those sources did not say that). As most of your reply is about why we are wrong, but not what you did wrong, I don't think you still understand why you are blocked. One of the reasons you are blocked is because you continue your original research. Everything you add to an article needs to be sourced with reliable references. If you want to add that Bárány was a Hungarian Nobel Prize winner, you need to have a reliable reference that explicitly states that he was a Hungarian citizen. Everything else is original research. Eem dik doun in toene (talk) 13:03, 22 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, and by the way, Hungarian nationality law might be based on jus sanguinis nowadays, but did it e.g., during Bárány's life? Wasn't is based on jus soli back then? Maybe Bárány's parents lost their Hungarian citizenship before he was born, so he could never have been a Hungarian citizen. Your assumption that because Hungarian nationality law is based on jus sanguinis nowadays, so historical figures should have had Hungarian citizenship as well, is thus wrong and original research. Eem dik doun in toene (talk) 13:11, 22 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there!
References I added are from Hungarian legal sources,Los Angeles Hungarian legation, if I remember, that say that before 1957 hungarian nationality was given automaticlly to children if father was hungarian.
It has changed by now and includes mother too now, but does not affect any Nobel Prize winner, yet.
(Right then that Stigler and Osheroff cant be listed based on nationality, but ethnicity only, through mother, but that is another type of listing)
Older example is Liszt (born 1811) whose children inherited fathers nationality.
You, may have a point, that maybe von Hayek grandfather who was born in Arad, was not considered Hungarian 1849-1859, but I will check exact dates.
But I wrote under curiosa: not-considered Hungarians but at least one-grandparent born in Hungary then.(Actually Müller then, probably Hell too)
Hungary is very difficult territory with much overlapping, misunderstanding and also misinformation from far right/left and other nations claims. Even some hungarians want to exclude hungarians who claim to be hungarians...so it is hard to get to the exact facts and I seem to have made some errors as I wrote.
Best regards Vazulvonal of Stockholm (talk) 18:24, 22 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wish to be unblocked

[edit]

Merry Christmas! Could you help me to be unblocked? Wrote above that some names did not fit very well, ergo did not follow hungarian nationality law. Stigler, Osheroff had ethnical hungarian mothers, so they did Not inherit hungarian nationality, which comes from the father. Understand that Geni might not be perfekt. I wrote under curiosa those who had one hun grandfather. Is that original research? Official Nobel site should be correct, not? But you could check Bárány as reference. He is like always in hungarian lists but mother was born in Prague, according to Deutsche biografie e g., and same rule should apply to others, not? Other nationality lists have often much bygger faults than mine if you compare. See contries with changing borders! Could you specify my faults more exactly? Wish to be unblocked. Understand some of criticism

[edit]

Next time before I contribute I will try it on the talk page before. Understand that Geni is not perfekt. Could you editors check hungarian nationality law which states that before 1957 hungarian nationality was inherited from father to children. Some hungarians delete some hungarians from hungarian lists sometimes just because they are jewish. Hungarian jews are considered ethnical hungarians, except during very racist times and this might be unique and confusing. Many ethnical hungarians have germanic and or slavic names. Many hungarians are born outside of Hungary and this might also confuse. Vazulvonal of Stockholm (talk) 18:23, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Merry Christmas! I understand that I have made some factual errors: Stigler, Osheroff,Karle had only hungarian mothers and according to Hungarian nationality law then, they did not inherit hungarian nationality, only ethnicity. (Today law is changed and only mother is also enough, but does not affect anyone yet, as far as I know) Furthermore Glück and Furchgott had hungarian fathers, US-born and most probably their hungarian nationality expired.

I understand that Geni as a source is not perfect. Original research? Is adding Herta Müller under curiosa having at least one hungarian-born grandparent considered original research? I based assumption on her self-description where family lived; Niczkyfalva, her mother born 1928 and I assumed that grandmother was older than 9 years when she gave birth to Müllers mother, ergo born before 4th of june 1920 when Transylvania (including Partium) belonged to Hungary. I will furthemore ask for advice on matters unclear for those unfamliar in hungarian curcumstances on talk-page before I publish. Anything more I should consider?

Best regards your reason here

Vazulvonal of Stockholm, I don't think you understand what people are trying to explain to you. You insist that we read a Wikipedia article, but you can't use Wikipedia as a reference. Being eligible for Hungarian citizenship is not the same as actually possessing it, and using genealogy and past or present Hungarian nationality laws to determine it is wrong unless you find a specific reliable source that explicitly states that they are Hungarian citizens. Every person you name needs to be dealt with separately. Do you understand that? Shellwood (talk) 17:44, 25 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Merry Christmas Shellwood!
As I wrote above I described some of my mistakes. Stigler, Osheroff, Karle had ethnical hungarian mothers only, and I should not have added them to Hungarian nationality lists, because rules then excluded them. (Today mother is enough, but does not affect any yet)
But, according to Hungarian nationality law one is born automatically as a Hungarian if father is Hungarian, even if you do not want to become. If I will be unblocked I myself will not further add Hungarian born citizens to lists, even if it is formally correct.(See other nationals on wiki Nobel prize list who have more adding problems than my admitted mistakes here!) Those I agree to be wrong about are: Glück and Furchgott who had ethnical hungarian US-born fathers, but nationality expired most probably, so I should not have added them before better control.
Understand that Geni is not a perfect source, but those I used seems to be correct, also according to family members descriptions. Will also not use Wikipedia as a reference.
Before I add furthermore I will ask on talk before. Does it sound reasonable?
So if I do not oppose you furthermore, could I please be unblocked?
Best regards,

Prelog?

[edit]

Hi! The Nobel site should be the best reference there is, about Nobel Prizes? According to it he, Prelog[1] should be included under both Austria and Hungary.
