My apologies
Hi Usedtobecool. My apologies for wording my comments in a way that they come across as ""politely patronizing and condescending". I'm happy to refactor. My goal was to minimize discussion within the Survey section, and to find out what sources you were basing your comments upon.
Again, my apologies. --Ronz (talk) 17:36, 21 May 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you for taking the time, Ronz. Perhaps one day, I'll apologize to you for passing hasty judgement over a single misunderstanding. For today, Apologies accepted. See you around. Usedtobecool (talk) 18:00, 21 May 2019 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Nawaraj Subba
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Nawaraj Subba, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Edwardx (talk) 22:46, 22 May 2019 (UTC)

Cricket Userbox
I've updated the Cricket userbox page, which it looks like you were trying to add to. Feel free to revert my change. I'd also suggest changing the colours on the UB, as the black/ dark blue text on blue background is a MOS:CONTRAST failure. I'd also change the user category you add to as supporting Nepal does not imply support of Indian cricket to me. Spike 'em (talk) 08:23, 29 May 2019 (UTC)
- @Spike 'em:Thanks a bunch. I think it's better now. If there's issues, feel free to fix 'em if you can. I tried putting in lighter colors, but then it doesn't at all resemble the national colours or the team kit. So, it's the best I can do, for now at least. I found one place it says Indian and changed it to Nepali. Hope that was all there was. Usedtobecool (talk) 09:44, 29 May 2019 (UTC)
- Yep, that was what I meant. I see you moved the span too, which was the only other suggestion I was going to make. Spike 'em (talk) 09:51, 29 May 2019 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Rejina Upreti
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Rejina Upreti requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, such as at Articles for deletion. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.
If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Please don't add any more comments at the RfA. They were inappropriate (at least for that venue) from the beginning. I don't even feel comfortable moving them to the Talk page. Thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 20:31, 21 June 2019 (UTC)
- I feared as much when I first commented there. But then, there were replies and it feels rude not answering the replies. There's a new reply that I'd probably have answered but for this caution. Hope no one else comments further. I suppose it will have to be the latest application of WP:IAR if they do.
- BTW, what's the right place to start a thread about concerns one has about where wikipedia is going, if hypothetically they had them?Usedtobecool TALK 21:26, 21 June 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you for not responding. Your question is a tough one. As phrased, it's a very broad issue, and even if you framed it more narrowly, I don't see any place where it would fit in. You could ask about the appropriate forum at the WP:Teahouse. Some of the patrollers there may be more "imaginative" than I am.--Bbb23 (talk) 21:35, 21 June 2019 (UTC)
- I see what you mean.
- BTW, I went back to the RfA and just seeing the number of supports with exactly the rationale I quoted made me want to come back here and assert that my comment does belong there. I contemplated if I just agreed to your request without thinking, precisely because you are an admin. Then, I realised the last comment there by another user was perfect to close that particular discussion, so I stopped contemplating what was what. So, the jury's still out on whether I agree or disagree with your assessment on the appropriateness of that comment. LOL! Don't feel obligated to add a reply. See you around. That's the relevant guideline. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 04:35, 24 June 2019 (UTC)
- That's a talk-page guideline and even it doesn't prohibit what I did. Just says it's irritating; which is superseded by Jimbo's invitation to edit his page. The simple fact is users are using their own standards to prevent others from doing what Jimbo specifically asked us to do.
- Having said that, I understand where you are coming from. I would never make such an edit on any other user's user or talk pages or comments on other discussions, even if/when there are no rules preventing it.
- A more specific/relevant guideline is this. Usedtobecool ✉️ ✨ 04:45, 24 June 2019 (UTC)
- I'm not sure what you did at Jimbo's Talk page, and I don't care enough to find out, but I do know that you refactored editor comments when you edited Drmies's Talk page yesterday. It wasn't just the refactoring. Your edit was so much more complex than it needed to be to say what you had to say. The worst part was you actually removed one of Drmies's comments. Without trying to determine whether you did anything else as bad as that, I simply restored the comment. The bigger problem here is you are again acting in a slippery/wikilawyer-like fashion, rejecting comments from experienced users and substituting your own (poor) judgment as to what's within policy or within guidelines. In my view, you need to (a) make a significant attitude adjustment and (b) spend a much greater percentage of your time in article space rather than project and user talk spaces. You probably won't take this advice, but I would be remiss if I didn't at least try (again).--Bbb23 (talk) 14:00, 24 June 2019 (UTC)
- @Bbb23:It is obvious from the diff, to me at least, that when I tried to type in colon for my own comment, I accidentally selected all of one of the comments, deleted it and the cursor skipped to the beginning of another comment where one of the asterisks got replaced by the colon I was trying to type in. Seeing as how other aestriks got replaced by colons too, I should think some search and replace was involved. I can't tell if it was my hands, or my keyboard, or wikipedia, so I guess you will have to take my word for it that it was an accident. I have seen other users indenting replies in a discussion. So, that's one thing I've thought I can do with other people's comments. Other than that, I would never try anything like that, with exceptions which I thought would be covered by WP:IAR until now, like this one. However, I am now interested to hear what you think about this diff. Especially, since you decided to revoke yesterday's good faith when you saw this section, even after I specifically said above that I would never edit someone else's comments anywhere. I appreciate you assuming good faith yesterday and correcting my mistakes there without making an issue of it. However, I'd much rather prefer that you had if you are instead going to bring it up to render prejudicial judgement without even bothering to find out what the facts are in a totally unrelated case.
- It is surprising to me that you have such low opinion of me, when I've complied with your requests without even arguing even when I didn't agree with them. If you had problem with my attitude, etc. I'd rather you be frank and lay it on me moment to moment, rather than pile them up and bring them up all at once to paint a devilish picture of me. I don't know what you mean by "(again)" but I don't know how I should take your advice knowing that you have so much prejudice against me. I just looked at the stats today and saw my mainspace contribution was below 50%. Much of it is due to my experimenting/testing on my userpage and subpages. But, I did vow to keep my mainspace edits above 50% and steadily increase it, and actually achieved it a couple hours ago. I am sorry you have so much prejudice against me. But there is nothing else I can say. Please clarify if your comments here should be taken as an admin warning or an experienced editor advice. Thank you for correcting my mistake on Drmies' page yesterday and assuming good faith. Usedtobecool ✉️ ✨ 14:49, 24 June 2019 (UTC)
- You have a passive-aggressive style of arguing with other users. It can be difficult to deal with and hard to describe. I don't think my comments rise to the level of warnings. They are more a repeated expression of concern about your interaction with other users and your interpretations of what is acceptable and what is not. I try to be explicit when I warn editors.--Bbb23 (talk) 16:09, 24 June 2019 (UTC)
- Since it's reasonable to assume that I have a blindspot when it comes to my own conduct, some specific examples would be immensely helpful, if you have the time. If you have concerns about my wider conduct, hope it gives you some reassurance to know that you are the only editor in wikipedia (aside from a sock farm(?)) that has had a problem with me, in my 3 months of active editing here. So, maybe, many users have been more tolerant of my attitude and passive aggressiveness, but I have obviously not caused any significant damage to the project. I know your time is valuable and I appreciate you taking the time to try and help me become a better contributor despite suspecting^^^ that I might be a hopeless case.Usedtobecool ✉️ ✨ 16:32, 24 June 2019 (UTC)

- LOL. Yeah, kind of. As I said, I was completely taken by surprise. I was thinking I was a model contributor right up until your comment here. I have been getting polite responses from everyone. I nominated one user's page for deletion and then went asking for their help not 15 minutes later (of course, I didn't realise they'd authored that page then). They were very kind and helpful. I actually nominated another article for deletion today and imagine my terror when the page said that same user had been notified. If I'd known I'd have proposed a merge this time, LOL! Anyway, I was quite harsh to one other editor, ironically, for their passive aggressiveness, in my very first days. I should probably go and apologise to them today. I had said to them that I would decide whether to accept their apology later on. Maybe, I was the problem in that encounter. Anyway, thanks! I'm sure we'll get to continue this convo later, hopefully from a much better place. See you around. Usedtobecool ✉️ ✨ 17:13, 24 June 2019 (UTC)
- By the way, I think it was the same page, I had seen someone, maybe you, use a smiley template to generate a real emoji, so I tried about 20 guesses of my own trying to generate one of my own and checking to see if it worked in the preview, before giving up and copy-pasting code from the list page. Perhaps, that had something to do with that bizarre edit on Drmies' page. I was only focused on whether I get the emoji, so I wouldn't have noticed other changes. Could it be a wrong code was executed when I tried to preview the result of my made-up emoji templates? Not expecting an answer from you on that, just crossed my mind just now. Safe to say, I have learnt my lesson. Holy hell, that one had -1000 on an edit in which I added 2 comments. I can see why it's a good idea for me to take things back and take it slow. That kind of damage is unacceptable, unwitting - doubly so. Thanks again. Cheers!Usedtobecool ✉️ ✨ 17:13, 24 June 2019 (UTC)
- And, now, I'm even more confused, like that was possible. Uncle G had changed the colons into asterisks right in the previous edit which it says my edit undid. But bizarre still, it says my edit removed those s-tags on Drmies' "you", which is impossible because I specifically remember seeing Drmies' sentence ending with "you", because that had made no sense to me. In his real edit, he had struck through "you" and added joy. That version I never even saw. And the 1000 or so characters that were lost in my edit had been restored by Uncle G before you saw the one he missed. So, something major fishy happened there. I couldn't have altered the version of Drmies'comments that I didn't even get to see. That page loaded (just for me?) with those alterations already in place and edit history attributed it to me? Best to move on, but not forget that one, I reckon! Usedtobecool ✉️ ✨ 17:35, 24 June 2019 (UTC)
- Wikipedia revisions don't lie. I've restored that bit, although I don't think anyone cares anymore except maybe you and me, and I didn't even notice it until you commented above. If I were you, I wouldn't even look again. --Bbb23 (talk) 17:58, 24 June 2019 (UTC)
- I am still as perplexed as I am terrified. But, in all your years, if you've never known an edit history to do anything like it, I trust you. Yep, not looking back into that page is probably the most productive course of action. Nothing good to come off it anymore. Thanks for everything, @Bbb23:, especially for taking the time to read my infinite comments and answering them. See you around! Usedtobecool ✉️ ✨ 18:15, 24 June 2019 (UTC)

Teahouse edit
Hi Usedtobecool,
I've replaced your edit to the Teahouse in the Need Editor Help : Claude Ferguson Article section. Neither your edit nor my edit conflict with you were the cause of the problem. Solowalk had added (in two places) a paragraph where he had attempted to set off citations by enclosing them in <ref> ... <ref> tags. The renderer was seeing the multiple <ref> tags but reporting the error when it found the first matching </ref> tag, about four sections later!

- Hello IP user 178.66.119.134, Namaste! It isn't really my area of interest to cover films that are barely out of the cradle. There is an official channel in Wikipedia to request new articles. I suggest that you request new articles at Wikipedia:Requested articles. The procedure to request is simple.

- Hello again, IP user! I have made an edit removing controversial and uncited information in there. But I can't promise it will remain so. That is why it is more useful to take the matter up with more involved editors of the page, either on the talk page of the article or assuming there is no response there, on their user talk page. You can check who the more involved editors to the page are by clicking on the "View History" tab of the article. It's not going to be very helpful to your cause to lobby uninvolved editors like me. So, once again, I recommend that you take it up with the more involved contributors of that page, because frankly, they would know more about the subject and you could have a more productive discussion with them. Good luck! Usedtobecool ✉️ ✨ 09:29, 4 July 2019 (UTC)
Winston Sterzel Serpentza Non significant facts
Winston Sterzel,
This is irrelevant fact, "one such video on a journey to Guilin amassed almost 80,000 views." 80000 views is nothing in YouTube land, does not relegate high enough significance,
Who is Matthew Tye and other friends? ( I have other friends also) Matthew Tye does not even have a Wikipedia article, this again does not relegate high enough significance. If that case, my friend is Joe Bob. Who cares? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.107.121.141 (talk) 17:51, 4 July 2019 (UTC)

- Hello again, IP user, You have already made your point at the article's talk page. This discussion should be had there and I can see your messages just fine over there. So, it's really not necessary to duplicate that message here. If you are sure, just BE BOLD and make the edit yourself. Then if someone comes and reverts it, mention them on the talk page of that article and ask for an explanation and have a discussion and proceed from there. If they revert but do not reply at the talk page, go to their talk page and ask them why. When even that doesn't work, only then, it is suitable to involve other editors/admins. Please make note of the WP:3RR, the three-revert rule, when entering into an edit dispute, and it'll all work out. Good luck! Usedtobecool ✉️ ✨ 19:31, 4 July 2019 (UTC)

Question for administrator
This request for help from administrators has been answered. If you need more help or have additional questions, please reapply the {{admin help}} template, or contact the responding user(s) directly on their own user talk page. |
Hi! I came across the page 2Skupz/BNB/2017Playoffs and moved it to userspace. But when I was trying to get back, I noticed that the user had at least a dozen subpages on things like: note to son, gambling stat, hobbies, journals, personal resolution, critic on TV episodes, etc. I left a message on their talk page but they've not answered, while they've continued to edit those subpages. I suspect it might be WEBHOST, WEBLOG, etc. violation. Since there are many subpages, I thought I'd ask an admin to look at them (since I can't make a "CSD request for this and all subpages"); especially since their edit history shows that they almost exclusively edit on their own user-space.
- I did not want to raise this at a public discussion board, like ANI or teahouse, because I didn't want to involve more users than absolutely necessary, since it's only a suspicion; and I am very much only learning. I didn't use the help template because that would involve one more user unnecessarily. Guidance appreciated, if I did this wrong. Thanks! Usedtobecool ✉️ ✨ 05:35, 9 July 2019 (UTC)
- Most of those pages were entirely unsuitable for Wikipedia, so I have speedy-deleted them under WP:U5. Yunshui 雲水 07:49, 9 July 2019 (UTC)

Adding signatures to unsigned entries
Hi, I have seen recently your edit here: special:diff/906402217. Please note that {{unsigned}} creates a link to the user's page based on the supplied user name. However, anonymous IP users do not have their user pages. In such case a link to the user's contributions should be created instead. For this purpose please use the {{unsigned IP}} template. --CiaPan (talk) 06:30, 16 July 2019 (UTC)
- Hi! Thanks a lot! You won't believe how long it took me to even get to that much. I'd suspected something was wrong when the bot came in. Thanks a lot for keeping any eye out. Usedtobecool ✉️ ✨ 07:25, 16 July 2019 (UTC)
- You wouldn't believe how long it took ME :) ...and I still have more to learn than have learned already! Be patient, take it easy, it all comes with time. --CiaPan (talk) 07:54, 16 July 2019 (UTC)
Regarding Madhesi conflict
I apologize that my edit removed the “expert needed” tag. It seems the deOrphan tool that I was using has a bit of a bug. Thanks for bringing that to my attention by mentioning my username in your fix. Again, I apologize, and I will watch more carefully in the future for this. Bsoyka✉ 22:29, 18 July 2019 (UTC)
- That is what I thought. Another user had made the exact same edit with exact same bot-looking summary which had been reverted right before. That's why I thought I'd better alert you. At the very least, I thought you could file a bug report to wherever the bot is hosted from. Sorry for the stark tone. I wanted to convey the seriousness, in case it was someone looking to only stack up edits, which you've shown just now you are not. So, I too apologise for what I said. But, at least, I didn't wholesale revert you like the other one, right? After all, de-orphaning is important! Happy editing! And, see you around! Usedtobecool ✉️ ✨ 22:44, 18 July 2019 (UTC)
- No problem, I’ll see if I can find the developer and see if they are still active. Bsoyka✉ 01:02, 19 July 2019 (UTC)

Dropshadow
Hi, would you consider reducing the amount of dropshadow on your signature? Currently the shadow is so diffuse that it affects text in lines above and below it in quite a confusing way, I thought my monitor had an error at first when viewing some of your comments at AFD. - Damn! I really liked this one. I will look for ways to improve it for myself and for others. Thanks for taking the time. Usedtobecool ✉️ ✨ 08:08, 21 July 2019 (UTC)

- Hey, thanks! I looked at your contributions and I see what you mean and how that would be a good idea. But I have no idea what the instructions mean. Maybe you use a gadget/tool I don't? I have just been using mentions and pings, but sometimes I forget. Usedtobecool ✉️ ✨ 20:16, 22 July 2019 (UTC)
- Usedtobecool, oops, forgot it was a user script. You can find a few Teahouse related user scripts here, including Teahouse Talkback Links, which adds the "TB" link. --MrClog (talk) 20:57, 22 July 2019 (UTC)
