Your Userpage Deleted as Advertising
[edit]Your userpage is not to be used as advertising or as a pseudo-article. It is available for personal information about yourself. When adding personal information please remember that Wikipedia is not MySpace. Your userpage is for anything that is compatible with the Wikipedia project. It is a mistake to think of it as a homepage: Wikipedia is not a blog, webspace provider, or social networking site. Please see Wikipedia:Introduction and Wikipedia:User page for more information. I started creating that page to practice how to create a page in wikipedia. The ultimate aim was to create a page that explains the history of Uncover the World from its start as a private overland expedition from London to Kathmandu, organised by a bunch of students some 15 years ago, through to where it is today. I thought my user page was supposed to be for that purpose, and if not where do I work on a page that is not ready to be published? Where is the page? Can I have the content back please as I don't have a copy of it? Also regarding advertising - can you explain the difference between what I am trying to do and the following entries in wikipedia - Thomas Cook, First Choice, TUI travel PLC, Trek America etc. I would be really interested to hear you comments on this, thanks. - Users may draft articles in their userspace, but it is usually preferred that it be done as a subpage. However, drafts are expected to be actively worked and transitioned to main space when done. Given that you only edited this on 03 Sept and 21 Oct, this does not look like an active effort.
- In addition, as an article, it has several issues. It would remain speedy deletable under the general criteria for advertising (G11), but it would also fail the article criteria for notability (A7). It is written in a blatantly promotional style and shows no notability for the company.
- I suggest you check-out these pages:
- Thomas Cook & TUI Travel PLC both meet the notability criteria for companies. The TUI Travel PLC article has some issues, but those can be corrected. It is arguable whether First Choice (travel firm) and TrekAmerica need to be separate articles, but as components of TUI Travel PLC, at most they would be merged to the parent firm's article.
- If you can indicate why Uncover the World is really notable, you may re-create the article, making sure to cite any verifiable sources and subject to our NPOV and COI guidelines.
- Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 17:29, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
