This is not really an WP:RFD issue since you can retarget the redirects once we know where the target should be moved to, which is not at all clear to me. I've created a requested move at Talk:Shahzad_Rafiq#Requested_move_7_January_2015, to which I hope you can contribute. A bot has recently fixed the double redirects created as a result of the various moves. Si Trew (talk) 09:59, 7 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

One of several of Godot13's quality submissions during round 1

That's it, the first round is done, sign-ups are closed and we're into round 2. 64 competitors made it into this round, and are now broken into eight groups of eight. The top two of each group will go through to round 3, and then the top scoring 16 "wildcards" across all groups. Round 1 saw some interesting work on some very important articles, with the round leader Australia Freikorp (submissions) owing most of his 622 points scored to a Featured Article on the 2001 film Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within which qualified for a times-two multiplier. This is a higher score than in previous years, as Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions) had 500 points in 2014 at the end of round 1, and our very own judge, Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) led round 1 with 601 points in 2013.

In addition to Freikorp's work, some other important articles and pictures were improved during round one, here's a snapshot of a few of them:

You may also wish to know that The Core Contest is running through the month of March. Head there for further details - they even have actual prizes!

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! Details of this problem, and which specific criteria that the image may not meet, can be obtained by going to the image description page. If you feel that this image does meet those criteria, please place a note on the image description or talk page explaining why. Do not remove the {{di-fails NFCC}} tag itself.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Jawani Phir Nahi Aani, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. C/2014 Q2 (Lovejoy) is a long-period comet discovered on 17 August 2014 by Terry Lovejoy; and is one of several Featured Pictures worked up by India The Herald (submissions) during the second round.

The second round one has all wrapped up, and round three has now begun! Congratulations to the 34 contestants who have made it through, but well done and thank you to all contestants who took part in our second round. Leading the way overall was Belarus Cas Liber (submissions) in Group B with a total of 777 points for a variety of contributions including Good Articles on Corona Borealis and Microscopium - both of which received the maximum bonus.

Special credit must be given to a number of high importance articles improved during the second round.

The points varied across groups, with the lowest score required to gain automatic qualification was 68 in Group A - meanwhile the second place score in Group H was 404, which would have been high enough to win all but one of the other Groups! As well as the top two of each group automatically going through to the third round, a minimum score of 55 was required for a wildcard competitor to go through. We had a three-way tie at 55 points and all three have qualified for the next round, in the spirit of fairness. The third round ends on June 28, with the top two in each group progressing automatically while the remaining 16 highest scorers across all four groups go through as wildcards. Good luck to all competitors for the third round! If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on File:Zaid Ali comedian.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

Stop adding links to Indian film related articles on Pakistani film pages. Umais Bin Sajjad (talk) 07:59, 22 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you posted that "vandalism" template on his talk on 22 July. That day, he made only this edit to that article, which I think is not vandalism. How it is otherwise? You have industrious contributions to many cinema-related articles, please do not term an edit to which you disagree as "vandalism". And I also wanted to ask you about this one. Why being a "joint" film makes Virsa a non-Pakistani movie and makes it ineligible for inclusion there in that list? Faizan (talk) 18:31, 24 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If you are linking Indian films list in "see also" section then why not American, English, Australian etc. I mean why just Indian then. See also should refer people to the main film related articles not the neighbours. As far as Virsa film gross is concerned, the reference given did not have Pakistani cinemas gross but overall so I removed it. Umais Bin Sajjad (talk) 08:03, 25 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2015 September newsletter

[edit]

The finals for the 2015 Wikicup has now begun! Congrats to the 8 contestants who have survived to the finals, and well done and thanks to everyone who took part in rounds 3 and 4.

In round 3, we had a three-way tie for qualification among the wildcard contestants, so we had 34 competitors. The leader was by far Scotland Casliber (submissions) in Group B, who earned 1496 points. Although 913 of these points were bonus points, he submitted 15 articles in the DYK category. Second place overall was Philadelphia Coemgenus (submissions) at 864 points, who although submitted just 2 FAs for 400 points, earned double that amount for those articles in bonus points. Everyone who moved forward to Round 4 earned at least 100 points.

The scores required to move onto the semifinals were impressive; the lowest scorer to move onto the finals was 407, making this year's Wikicup as competitive as it's always been. Our finalists, ordered by round 4 score, are:

  1. Belarus Cas Liber (submissions), who is competing in his sixth consecutive Wikicup final, again finished the round in first place, with an impressive 1666 points in Pool B. Casliber writes about the natural sciences, including ornithology, botany and astronomy. A large bulk of his points this round were bonus points.
  2. Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions) (FP bonus points), second place both in Pool B and overall, earned the bulk of his points with FPs, mostly depicting currency.
  3. Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions), first in Pool A, came in third. His specialty is natural science articles; in Round 4, he mostly submitted articles about insects and botany. Five out of the six of the GAs he submitted were level-4 vital articles.
  4. Somerset Harrias (submissions), second in Pool A, took fourth overall. He tends to focus on articles about cricket and military history, specifically the 1640s First English Civil War.
  5. Washington, D.C. West Virginian (submissions), from Pool A, was our highest-scoring wildcard. West Virginia tends to focus on articles about the history of (what for it!) the U.S. state of West Virginia.
  6. Somerset Rodw (submissions), from Pool A, likes to work on articles about British geography and places. Most of his points this round were earned from two impressive accomplishments: a GT about Scheduled monuments in Somerset and a FT about English Heritage properties in Somerset.
  7. United States Rationalobserver (submissions), from Pool B, came in seventh overall. RO earned the majority of her points from GARs and PRs, many of which were earned in the final hours of the round.
  8. England Calvin999 (submissions), also from Pool B, who was competing with RO for the final two spots in the final hours, takes the race for most GARs and PRs—48.

The intense competition between RO and Calvin999 will continue into the finals. They're both eligible for the Newcomers Trophy, given for the first time in the Wikicup; whoever makes the most points will win it.

Good luck to the finalists; the judges are sure that the competition will be fierce!

List of highest-grossing Pakistani films

[edit]

Would you mind explaining why you recreated an article that was deemed fit for deletion? The references are totally wack, did you even look at them? Ramchand Pakistan's reference says it made 6.5 million not 6.5 crore, (6.5 million is probably about right), but the fact remains that NONE of these figures are reliably verifiable making the list suspect, not just in terms of being incorrect and un-encyclopedic but also raising issues of conflict of interest amongst others.PakArtPatrol (talk) 14:42, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

First of all thanks for starting convo here. Sir the references are reliable that confirm the box office of film. I removed the film Ramchand Pakistani as it collected 6.5 crore (not 6.5 million as you say) just domestically, no confirmed data of its overall box office. The News sources like The Express Tribune are reliable enough and make it confirm the box office of mentioned films, If you think there is any wach reference then it out and remove it. UBStalk 09:09, 2 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Pakistani newspaper reports on figures are NOT a reliable source. Besides the fact remains that Wikipedia saw fit to remove this and yet you have put the article back up. It is possible to arrive at a most popular list but only in an Op Ed style piece in the press based on interest by the media NOT in Wikipedia because the figures are not encyclopedic fact because it says so in newspapers that are probably quoting an interested party. There is no central audit, the exhibitors in Pakistan are the distributors and it's a closed shop. The film industry nor the public need this kind of reinforcement of hype, and this is not a platform to cycle up the hype, putting on Wikipedia does not make it true especially when it is reasonably contested by someone who knows what they are talking about with no meaningful debate whatsoever, please take it down if you are a serious and impartial editor here. PakArtPatrol (talk) 18:46, 12 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Firstly this page should not have been put back up, I stand by the original reason I deleted the page and will discuss with a third party in detail if necessary. If the page is to stand given it's misuse then I'm asking you to stop removing the data which I have added, namely the figures for Tamanna. Your only source for this (and the vast majority of other entries) is boxofficedetail.com, a private site that has no access to industry figures unlike certain other sites dealing with the mainstream western cinema figures which are published by INDUSTRY. Your previous answer was that these are reliable sources for which I ask you to prove provenance. Understand that I know many of these projects, and was personally involved in several, and know that the figures are wrong, and ultimately question the use of a list of rank, that doesn't have legitimate sources published by the industries auditors. It really does look like you have found a place you can influence how things look, and I just wonder why? PakArtPatrol (talk) 13:14, 12 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Adding film Tamanna in the list with gross figures 4.6 crores, whereas the reference in front of it says 55 lac and vertics os disaster. Do you believe this is fair to do with the list, or are you paid to do this? And yeah Boxofficedetail is currently the only reputable and fair source which have approach to film distributors in Pakistan. Umais Bin Sajjad (talk) 01:30, 14 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Reputable by whom? PakArtPatrol (talk) 03:35, 14 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Umais sir, try to understand I am only concerned about the truth and the facts. I am not getting paid, but yes I have an interest in Tamanna I made the film and therefore I know the true figures and also figures of other films through my industry connections, and can claim to be an expert in the film industry of Pakistan, but not wikipedia, although I know the rules. You are right to take it off and the others with no references, but this leaves the list incomplete as well as incorrect now. Do you realize that boxofficedetail labels a small low budget movie based on it's performance next to much larger budget movies, something which they do for Pakistani films only, not Indian or western films, which does not help Pakistan at all. A reputable site would never compare for example Iron Man 3 with Nebraska (a low budget art movie shown in limited release only), labeling Nebraska a flop because it made less money then Iron man. Labeling Pakistani movies a flop when they were successful in their own terms only makes Pakistan look bad, and you are supporting it by trying to make it legitimate through wikipedia. Like I said I will no longer edit so now you can do what you like with no opposition, but if I may humbly make a suggestion, you should confine your personal list of 'success' to the top ten only, that way you will not have to keep removing editors abusing the fact there are no official figures. All the best. PakArtPatrol (talk) 06:16, 14 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Brother i am amazed that u have suggested this article for deletion i don't know why? this is the reason why pakistanis are behind from others coz they pull legs of each, if a pakistani has contributed to something, instead of improving the article you suggested it for deletion look at how bollywood 2016 movies are updated but now look at if i have created some lets be it. this was my over 100 plus article which now again selected for deletion which means we pakistanis always remain behind. so i am deleting my account if you think keep deleting articles is good policy then go on brother. i will do something else to contribute. thanks. Muhammadjabran20111156 brother! Wikipedia is not about just "creating" stuff, its about creating somrthing and then referencing it with a valid source that verifies whether it is true or not. I encourage you to keep editing on Wikipedia, try to improve already made articles, that will make you understand more about wikipedia. After that, creating Pakistan-related articles would be no big deal for you. I hope you understood! Umais Bin Sajjad (talk) 16:32, 18 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

What are your thoughts on creating a WikiProject Pakistan Super League, modelled on the lines of WP:IPL and WP:BPL? I would be interested to contribute in whatever way I can. Mar4d (talk) 11:28, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yup. I agree, I will participate. The other active members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Pakistan can play a part too. Let's go ahead? Faizan (talk) 11:39, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good, we can start with inviting any other members we know who contribute actively on articles related to Pakistani cricket. Also, a starting point would be to start the project page, have a template, portal, book, a couple of project userboxes/barnstars and categories. It'd also be a good idea to have a text logo like File:BPL.svg and File:Ipl.svg that can be used on stub templates, portals, the WikiProject template etc. as the official logo most likely has a non-free rationale and can't be used everywhere. So a lot of things to work on :) Mar4d (talk) 12:27, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Categories

[edit]

Hey.. these categories you're adding (importance, redirect etc.) - they only go on the article talk pages, not the articles. And you have to use the template to get those categories. For example, for a redirect, you create the talk page of the redirect and put the tag like this: {{WikiProject Pakistan Super League|class=Redirect}} or for importance, you go to the article talk page and tag it like this: {{WikiProject Pakistan Super League|class=B|importance=Low}} When you add the tag, it will automatically sort them into those categories and you don't need to add those categories yourself. This is the correct way. Cheers, Mar4d (talk) 10:00, 22 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Alright :)
No worries. This is an example. To see all the classes which articles can be put into, here is a list. For importance ratings, these are the categories. You just need to input the importance level on the template. So for example, for a top importance article like Pakistan Super League, you will rate it as: {{WikiProject Pakistan Super League|class=|importance=Top}} and also assign it a class (A, B, C etc.) using the list I just linked. By displaying your personal contact details like your email ID, you may attract stalkers. So please be careful. Kailash29792 (talk) 10:45, 24 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have no wrong deeds, and no intention of doing in future on Wikipedia, so I think displaying my email will not effect me. Umais Bin Sajjad (talk) 11:59, 24 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

WikiCup 2015: The results

[edit]

WikiCup 2015 is now in the books! Congrats to our finalists and winners, and to everyone who took part in this year's competition.

This year's results were an exact replica of last year's competition. For the second year in a row, the 2015 WikiCup champion is Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions) (FP bonus points). All of his points were earned for an impressive 253 featured pictures and their associated bonus points (5060 and 1695, respectively). His entries constituted scans of currency from all over the world and scans of medallions awarded to participants of the U.S. Space program. Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions) came in second place; she earned by far the most bonus points (4082), for 4 featured articles, 15 good articles, and 147 DYKs, mostly about in her field of expertise, natural science. Belarus Cas Liber (submissions), a finalist every year since 2010, came in third, with 2379 points.

Our newcomer award, presented to the best-performing new competitor in the WikiCup, goes to United States Rationalobserver (submissions). Everyone should be very proud of the work they accomplished. We will announce our other award winners soon.

A full list of our award winners are:

We warmly invite all of you to sign up for next year's competition. Discussions and polls concerning potential rules changes are also open, and all are welcome to participate. The WikiCup judges will be back in touch over the coming months, and we hope to see you all in the 2016 competition. Until then, it only remains to once again congratulate our worthy winners, and thank all participants for their involvement! I undid your disambiguation at Aly Khan. Aly Khan and Alyy Khan are clearly different names and there's a ton of links incoming to Aly Khan that all seem to go to the Prince. It seems like it creates more confusion is Aly Khan could either be Aly Khan or Alyy Khan but Alyy Khan doesn't do that. It's easier to treat it as a typo if there's an mix-up. Your thoughts? -- Ricky81682 (talk) 11:27, 14 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm agree with your point Umais Bin Sajjad (talk) 12:39, 14 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. WikiCup 2016 is just around the corner...

[edit]

Hello everyone, and we would like to wish you all a happy holiday season. As you will probably already know, the 2016 WikiCup begins in the new year; there is still time to sign up. There are some changes we'd like to announce before the competition begins.

After two years of serving as WikiCup judge, User:Miyagawa has stepped down as judge. He deserves great thanks and recognition for his dedication and hard work, and for providing necessary transition for a new group of judges in last year's Cup. Joining Christine (User:Figureskatingfan) and Jason (User:Sturmvogel 66) is Andrew (User:Godot13), a very successful WikiCup competitor and expert in Featured Pictures; he won the two previous competitions. This is a strong judging team, and we anticipate lots of enjoyment and good work coming from our 2016 competitors.

We would also like to announce one change in how this year's WikiCup will be run. In the spirit of sportsmanship, Godot13 and Cwmhiraeth have chosen to limit their participation. See here for the announcement and a complete explanation of why. They and the judges feel that it will make for a more exciting, enjoyable, and productive competition.

The discussions/polls concerning the next competition's rules will be closed soon, and rules changes will be made clear on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring and talk pages. The judges are committed to not repeating the confusion that occurred last year and to ensuring that the new rules are both fair and in the best interests of the competition, which is, first and foremost, about improving Wikipedia.

If you have any questions or concerns, the judges can be reached on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, on their talk pages, or by email. We hope you will all join us in trying to make the 2015 WikiCup the most productive and enjoyable yet. You are receiving this message because you are listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.
