File permission problem with File:Vidwa Siromani C. Ganesha Iyer.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Vidwa Siromani C. Ganesha Iyer.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

Featuring your work on Wikipedia's front page: DYKs
[edit]Thank you for your recent articles, including Doctor Savithri, which I read with interest. When you create an extensive and well referenced article, you may want to have it featured on Wikipedia's main page in the Did You Know section. Articles included there will be read by thousands of our viewers. To do so, add your article to the list at T:TDYK. Let me know if you need help, Pppery 12:53, 11 September 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you for your kind words about my articles. My intention of writing the articles about old Tamil films is to leave information for younger generation who may look for it. I am busy at this time. I read your suggestion and visited the page T:TDYK. It seems I have to read the contents before attempting to nominate my articles. I am pressed for time nowadays. I will keep this in mind and try when I have time. Thank you once again. --Uksharma3 (talk) 13:08, 11 September 2016 (UTC)
- No, you don't have to read the whole list of over one hundred (unfortunately) DYK noms, some of which date back to June. You just have to follow the instructions at the top of the page. If you can come up with a hook, I'm happy to go through the technical steps of nominating the article. And I would like to remind you that you only have seven days after creating an article to nominate it. Pppery 13:12, 11 September 2016 (UTC)

I submitted the article Doctor Savithri to DYK. Today I received a message saying my submission is incomplete. I think you can see the message above. I do not know how to proceed. I am an old man and this computer jargon appears complicated to me. I think I will stop with writing the articles. If Wiki thinks my article is worth a mention in the front page, let them highlight it. Thank you for your kind suggestion.

- After creating the nomination you need to post it on the nominations page (which is step 3 mentioned in the notice above). I went ahead and did that. Sir, while I am indeed impressed with you efforts to expand M. D. Parthasarathy, I must advise you that copying text from other sources and pasting them on Wikipedia without many changes equals plagiarism, and is therefore considered copyright violation. So happy editing, and do please try not to get blocked. Kailash29792 (talk) 09:23, 15 September 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for your information and advice. The referenced article was referred to me by a relative of Sri Parthasarathy and I expanded the article on its basis. I didn't know about this getting blocked for copy paste. I have seen some film articles written by others that contained exact wordings from film reviews in newspapers. So, I didn't know about this. Anyway, now I have edited the article and rewritten in my own words, the contents that were copied and pasted. I hope this should be ok. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Uksharma3 (talk • contribs)

Thank you for your email. In the future, you can just post on my talk page, or leave me a message here on your talk with a ping ({{ping|Hexafluoride}}
). This gives me a better ability to track ongoing discussions.
You've complained about source reliability notice in the article Rajee En Kanmani. Wikipedia:Reliable Sources governs our definition of a reliable source (RS), and what constitutes one. Being in a language other than English doesn't necessarily mean it's not reliable, or that it shouldn't be used.
I'd also like to point out Wikipedia:Bold, which in a nutshell says "be bold, and go for it". If you believe your resources are adequate, then remove the notice, and post on the talk page of the article about it.
There's an essay that outlines the difficulties that face non-English speakers, and non-Western articles, when contributing to Wikipedia.
Some options are: asking for help with the references in the Wikipedia:Reference desk, or asking the Tamil community on the EnWiki (or even Tamil) for more references on the subject.

I write these articles about old Tamil films as a reference material for future generations who may be interested to learn the past history of Tamil film world. I have no intention of submitting it again. However, I have modified the article as per your observations about major issues. I found a wiki tag to link to You Tube so I never thought it will be an issue. (Why was that tag allowed?}. I have rewritten the Plot section and also removed the image. If such images cannot be used, why Wiki is offering the facility to upload such images. I think there are such contradictions within Wikipedia.--Uksharma3 (talk) 10:19, 17 September 2016 (UTC)

Missiyamma
[edit]Hi Mr. Sharma. I thank you for all the work you've been doing here. Now, to the point. I and Kailash29792 are aiming to make Missamma a featured article; this status makes it one of the best articles Wikipedia has to offer. We have done a similar job for Mayabazar; you can see its candidate here for reference. For older Indian film articles, especially bilinguals, we have been maintaining a single one with the title remaining in the film's main language. The altered casting of these versions are also mentioned clearly. Creating a separate article for Missiyamma is not objectionable, you are free to do so. But, it may be merged with the main one like the case of Missiamma. In case if it is done, please assume good faith. I personally hate seeing people fighting over something here where consensus formed by polite communication can settle issues. And, i hope you too would certainly not encourage such things.
I and Kailash await your response, Mr. Sharma. Happy editing! Yours Truly, Pavanjandhyala (talk) 08:04, 2 October 2016 (UTC)
- Pavan and Sharma sir, I have an idea: since there appears to be a major difference between both versions, how about we create a draft for Missiamma, develop it to the best, and keep it as a draft until it is distinct enough? Kailash29792 (talk) 08:22, 2 October 2016 (UTC)
- First of all, I must clarify that Missamma and Missiyamma are two different films, though the story is same. You say,
- [Quote]
- For older Indian film articles, especially bilinguals, we have been maintaining a single one with the title remaining in the film's main language.
- [/Quote]
- I can't understand how you determined that Missamma is the main language. If it was made in Telugu and then dubbed into Tamil, then your statement is correct. But in this case it is not so. Missiyamma was not dubbed into Tamil. They are not bilingual of the same film. Every scene in both Telugu and Tamil films were shot separately. S. V. Ranga Rao, Savitri, Rushyendramani and Jamuna acted in both Telugu and Tamil films. But their attire and body language are not the same in both films. All the others are totally different persons.
- I wrote the article on Missiyamma because, in the past, many a time I was looking for information on Missiyamma but could not find it. You can see that I have given more information about Missiyamma than what is given in Missamma. It is already distinct enough from Missamma. I spent more than 3 hours to deliver the article. Now you are coming up with an issue which, in my opinion, is totally unwanted. --Uksharma3 (talk) 13:29, 2 October 2016 (UTC)
- @Pavanjandhyala: @Kailash29792: Dear Pavanjandhyala and Kailash. After replying to you, I asked a younger person who is a medical doctor and a hobby writer in English to read Missamma and tell hes opinion. She had never heard of both films earlier. Her very first opinion was it needs lot of patience to read the article. She is confused with the first few paragraphs because the information on Telugu and Telugu films are mixed in a complicated manner.
- After her comments, I read the article again line by line, word by word. The story is of the Telugu film. The village name and the names of some characters are totally different in Telugu and Tamil. I did not see the Telugu film in full but watched some scenes on video. I felt that even the locations are different for some scenes.
- In your introduction about Missamma you mention it as a bilingual film. If the film was first made in one language and then dubbed into the other, it could be called a bilingual film. In fact, by your yardstick, it should be called a multilingual film, because the same story was made as a Hindi film also, though by another producer.
- I would suggest that you remove the given details of the Tamil film in the Telugu film article and just add the fact the film was made in Tamil and Hindi and insert links to Missiyamma and Miss Mary. That would make Missamma more easy to read.
- - --Uksharma3 (talk) 01:32, 3 October 2016 (UTC)
- There are many cases where admins will protest splitting the article into two (e.g.: Eega and Naan Ee share the same article, despite the latter being shot, not dubbed), saying the differences are minimal, even if the secondary version is filmed rather than dubbed. Missiamma seems to be one of those unfortunate films which had to share an article with it's Telugu filmed version. Kailash29792 (talk) 03:54, 3 October 2016 (UTC)
- My point is - How do they determine that Telugu film is the main language film? Is it because the producers are Telugu people? But they lived in Madras and the films were made in Madras. Therefore, I would say the Tamil film is the main language film and Missamma should be merged with Missiyamma. In that case what is the position of Miss Mary? How can it remain an independent article? - Uksharma3 (talk) 04:33, 3 October 2016 (UTC)
- Mr. Sharma, let me explain. Missamma is a case of back to back film production as per what many authors have written based on the inputs from the director and producers. Miss Mary is a remake; it is not a simultaneously hot version like Missamma/Missiyamma whatever the case may be. If you go and propose a merge of Miss Mary with the assumption, the proposal shall blatantly fail. Try it, you'll realise soon. Coming to your comments on your friend's opinion, i respect you both. But, in addition, i also respect the opinion of the makers and have to adhere to what the reliable sources are saying. I can reduce the usage of Tamil version in Missamma. But, i cannot erase every single detail because that would impact the article's comprehensiveness very very badly. If that happens, i have to scrap my plans. Looking at the situation, it likely seems to be inevitable. So, i shall do something. i will remove whatever is more suitable to be included in Missiyamma. What is left shall be the one of the best-ever good article contributions i have made so far. :) Thank you. Yours Truly, Pavanjandhyala (talk) 05:00, 3 October 2016 (UTC)
- Sharma sir, as per your suggestion, Missiyamma shall have its own article as there are indeed major differences. But it is due to be re-titled Missiamma in a day or two by the admins (as that is the spelling on the CBFC certificate). Besides, did you get the pages from Madras Studios I showed you? Kailash29792 (talk) 06:02, 3 October 2016 (UTC)
- I wanted to have the title as "Missiamma" but it was written as "Missiyamma" on the page List of Tamil films of 1955. So it will be good if the admins change it to Missiamma. Yes, just now I finished reading the pages from Madras Studio. I have the DVD of the film and I have seen the film many many times both in Tamil TV channels and from DVD. Therefore the story and dialogues are well known to me. On P221 it says "... but her mother says that the jewel is valuable as they discovered her with it when they found her.." This is not correct because Mary never knew she was an adopted child of the Christian couple. Only in the last scene of the film the Christian father reveals the truth to her. On P224, He says about Bhanumathi found the role emotionally draining. However, there is another story why Bhanumathi was replaced by Savitri and it is given in the Hindu newspaper article referred. Thanks for sharing the pages. I sent you an E-mail via Wiki about my FB group. I wonder whether you read it. I am extremely glad that a young person like you takes so much interest in old Tamil films. Thanks for your kind cooperation. - Uksharma3 (talk) 06:31, 3 October 2016 (UTC)

[edit]Dear Sir, Hope you are doing well.
I am requesting your contribution in Tamil Wikipedia also. Currently i'm working on a project to improve articles about Tamil movies (which were released till the year of 1975). - Dear Selva,
- Thank you for contacting me. I appreciate your efforts to develop Tamil Wikipedia. My problem is, I find it difficult to find time for more contribution. As you may know, I am living alone without any help. I do my own cooking. In addition, I have to do house-keeping, shopping and also allocate some time to be with my grand children. Some time ago, I started a FB group for old Tamil songs. To enhance my posts with additional information, I looked up both Tamil and English Wiki articles. I found the English articles contained more information than the Tamil ones. The Tamil Wiki honours people who create more number of articles. Therefore, I think, some people are intent on creating articles than developing them with more information. So, I found the English articles are more useful to me. I also found that there were some films without articles. So, I started writing articles for those films for the benefit of people who may be looking for information. I find it easy to write in English because the reference materials are found mostly in English. Writing in Tamil is not difficult for me. But Tamil Wiki, as you know, has it's own style of Tamil prose. I am used to write Tamil prose that was in use 30, 40 years ago. I am not conversant with the modern style of Tamil which have words derived from English words.
- I know and understand your sincerity and I yearn to help you in your efforts. My resources are limited. I will try my best. Best wishes.

Dear Sir, Thank you very much for your reply and your immediate action there. Now, i have provided few tips for you about the project goal and planned approach; hope it will be useful to move further.
However i am not expecting much of your core contribution in this project. I hardly need your mentoring, guidance and more over moral support! If i am able to see your name in recent changes, my confidence level going to very high level. Please take your time; Thank you again... -- என்றென்றும் அன்புடன்... Speedy deletion nomination of Bhakta Markandeya
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Bhakta Markandeya requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, images, a rephrasing of the title, a question that should have been asked at the help or reference desks, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. JamesG5 (talk) 07:48, 10 October 2016 (UTC)
- Hi, I saw your talk page comments and understand what you did, but my understanding is that it's generally not appropriate to leave blank pages with just a title & hope someone writes an article. It'd be better to do a little research & post a stub others can expand on. JamesG5 (talk) 07:50, 10 October 2016 (UTC)
- Hi, You may please delete the page. If someone will write about the Telugu film, let them start afresh. I am not much aware about Telugu Cinema. Thank you - Uksharma3 (talk) 08:00, 10 October 2016 (UTC)

[edit]On 24 October 2016, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Doctor Savithri, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the 1955 Tamil language film Doctor Savithri is a contemporary adaptation of the story of Savitri and Satyavan? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Doctor Savithri. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Doctor Savithri), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Sadhanaigal Padaitha Thamizh Thiraipada Varalaru
[edit]I see that the website lakshmansruthi.com
publishes various chapters from the book for online viewing. Since you use it frequently, I think it would also be good if you archive articles from the website, like you do with Randor Guy's Hindu articles. Because mass disappearance of valuable/irreplaceable information would be like a re-enactment of this disgusting man-made disaster, and we must archive while we can. Kailash29792 (talk) 11:00, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
- That's a good idea. I will archive lakshmansruthi pages also in future. In fact today when I checked Hindu articles for Krishna Vijayam, I found the original is no more available on the web. Luckily it had been archived and I was able to refer to the archived page.--UKSharma3 13:02, 2 December 2016 (UTC)

Deletion discussion about Ellorum Vazhavendum
[edit]Hello, Uksharma3,
I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether Ellorum Vazhavendum should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ellorum Vazhavendum .
If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.
Thanks,

- Thiraikalanjiyam covers the period 1951 - 1970 only in two parts. Yes, I have the physical copies of both Part 1 (1951-1960) and Part 2 (1961-1970). Sorry, no details on 1947 Miss Malini songs. Columbia Pictures of Malaysia have a copy of the film. Some years ago, they made it available online. However, it was found that some scenes are missing from the copy and therefore, they withdrew it from online sales. I understand that it may be possible to get a copy if anyone can approach them personally. I write this because I thought you may have some contact there in Malaysia.--UKSharma3 08:53, 14 April 2017 (UTC)

Tamil Brahmins
[edit]Hi, I know what you mean when you say that Brahmins are a community, not a caste. However, the consensus on Wikipedia is that they are treated as a caste when it comes to issues such as categorisation. And we do not categorise people by caste, sorry. That's why I reverted your revert. - Sitush (talk) 07:47, 4 May 2017 (UTC)
- Taking your word, //consensus on Wikipedia is that they are treated as a caste when it comes to issues such as categorisation// may I know why Wikipedia has a category "Tamil Brahmins". You should remove that category from Wikipedia rather than editing individual articles. Sayee Subbulakshmi
[edit]While Sayee died in 2010, do you know what happened of Subbulakshmi? I know she was alive as of 2002 (as seen in page 164 of this), but searching for info on Subbulakshmi's death is like searching for a needle in a haystack. --Kailash29792 (talk) 09:18, 10 June 2017 (UTC)
- What you say is correct. But I have read a FB post sometime ago by a relative of them (I forgot the name) paying tribute to both. Subbulakshmi was 3 years elder to Sayee. So, I think we can safely assume that she is no more. But if one has to know for certainty, then I don't think we can find any. Even it is not sure who their mother is! I uploaded the image with their Guru on the premise of the FB post. If anyone objects, that may be removed.
- I read the text you quoted. Usually even when one of any duo artistes talk, it is quoted with the duo name. Therefore, the text itself is not a categorical proof that she was alive at that time. As far as I know, Subbulakshmi was a silent partner only.--UKSharma3 09:48, 10 June 2017 (UTC)
- After writing the above I went through the comments in the Blogspot article. There is an entry saying "Subbu" grandmother is enjoying life with her family. Post made on March 17, 2017. Now I have written a comment on the same page for more details.--UKSharma3 10:00, 10 June 2017 (UTC)

Deceased people
[edit]When writing their articles in Wiki, we introduce them in the past tense (not present tense) since they are dead. I see you have correctly done so in Vedha (Music Director) (where "music director" should be de-capitalised since they are not part of his name), but I am not sure if the likes of M. P. Sivam, C. K. Saraswathi and N. L. Ganasaraswathi are still alive for their articles to be re-written in past tense. --Kailash29792 (talk) 07:09, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you. I saw that you changed to past tense in one of my previous articles and so used the past tense in the article about Vedha. But as per my learning a person who is something remains so even after his death. The introduction sentence should form as an answer to the question "Who is he?". Who is Vedha? He is a music director. Whether he is alive or dead is immaterial in the introduction. Even today his name is mentioned in Radio and TV programs. They do not announce as "the late Vedha" (அமரர் வேதா). Even though the soul has left the body his name still lives through his works. The past tense is used when telling what he did. In Tamil we will introduce as "வேதா ஒரு இசையமைப்பாளர்." We will not write "வேதா ஒரு இசையமைப்பாளராக இருந்தார்." Therefore, I would prefer writing Vedha is a music director. He was active in the field for about 25 years since 1956.... Anyway, as per western tradition a person's life ends when he is dead in physical form. Therefore, in deference to en.Wiki tradition, I used 'was' in this article. The other three you mentioned are dead but there is no citation available.--UKSharma3 (User | talk | Contribs) 00:39, 19 December 2017 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Tamil actress malini.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Tamil actress malini.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. DMacks (talk) 18:30, 27 August 2018 (UTC)
- I have removed the link to the image from the article. Let the image file be deleted. I am no more interested in uploading images. I have no time to search and read all the restrictions pertaining to uploading of images. I did upload images in good faith which I thought will not bring harm to anyone. If there are other such images let them get deleted.--UKSharma3 (User | talk | Contribs) 00:50, 28 August 2018 (UTC)

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. - Actually, it is a PD-India image, hence it isn't non-free and therefore shouldn't be reduced. I hope you don't mind me moving it to Commons. --Kailash29792 (talk) 18:12, 29 November 2018 (UTC)

Well, I might be a little incorrect here, but do deploy a second and third opinion as a party in this matter. The Ip editor removed a link to non-not-so-much reliable or, say unreliable source, plausibly due to a policy ruling of WP:BLOGS and self-published sources with in itself no bibliographic material or external, internal or closely supportable references. In actuality, providing it as a WP:SPS which enumerates the violations for WP:V. So, I removed it, and I'll inform that Ip editor (obviously; he's a human) for scraping off the unreliability of those sources.-- 223.182.162.65 (talk) 05:48, 5 February 2019 (UTC)
- Unless Sahadevan Vijayakumar is actually a regarded historian, his sources can't be used. --Kailash29792 (talk) 06:14, 5 February 2019 (UTC)
- This is the problem I face in Wikipedia and that's what is keeping me away from writing any more articles. How do you establish that a person is a regarded historian? Randor Guy is generally accepted as a film historian, but I can cite many mistakes/errors in his articles. As far as I know Sahadevan Vijayakumar's blog is a good source to know about hundreds of film personalities of old times. However, I cannot establish that he is a historian. Therefore, let that source be deleted. If that source is deleted, then information given in the article will need citation. I used his blog only when there is no other citation is available. Therefore, the article itself may be deleted. Thank you.--UKSharma3 (User | talk | Contribs) 08:56, 5 February 2019 (UTC)

[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited List of Tamil films of 1959, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Bala Nagamma (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

How did you get the song book of Aryamala (1941 film) and where can I view it? Also do you know how I can get the song book of Miss Malini (1947 film) and the cast list of Geetha Gandhi (1949 film)? because the cast list of Geetha Gandhi in the song book seems to be missing from the song book (could have been ripped out of the song book?)Superbrickbro (talk) 21:47, 3 October 2019 (UTC)Superbrickbro

[edit](Yoga) Mangalam in Sudharshan
[edit]Hi, Uksharma3 Yoga in the (Yoga) Mangalam sisters has always been credited as Yoga not Yogam. In the opening credits of Sudharshan (1951), it clearly says “யோக மங்களம்” which is translated as “Yoga” Mangalam (if you know how to read tamil) not “Yogam” Mangalam. Though you might think that Randor Guy is always right, he sometimes isn’t. Also if we always use primary sources rather than secondary sources in wikipedia, the opening credits of the film is the primary source, and the hindu article is a secondary source. That is why we must follow the credits always and only when the film is not available, we should Randor Guy’s review information. Also in the song book of Vedhala Ulagam (1948), credits Mangalam as (Yoga) Mangalam as well. So from now on, she will be credited as (Yoga) Mangam unless further notice.Mocktailmonkey890 (talk) 16:01, 20 November 2019 (UTC)Mocktailmonkey890
Cast Lists
[edit]Hi Uksharma3, I was wondering if you could fill me in cast lists for Tamil films. Should we follow the opening credits of the film if they are available, or should we follow other sources like the film's song book is available and credits are not? In the film page for Malaikkalan (1955), should I put in the cast according to the film titles or according to Randor Guy? Thank you, sincerely, Atsubramaniam8 (talk) 20:35, 27 January 2020 (UTC)Atsubramaniam8
- All information given in an article should have a citation.
- Song books are reliable sources. The book should be quoted with the publisher/printer's name, address and date or year of publication. A link can be added if it is publicly available on the net.
- Randor Guy's cast list is usually reliable but occasionally I have found errors in the names. As 'the Hindu' is a reliable source, I add the cast list in his article with an introduction saying the list was adapted from the review article and cite the newspaper.
- When no other reliable sources are available, the film credits can be used. As the link to the full length film in You Tube may be removed at any time, it is better to add the link in the External links section. In such a case I write an introduction saying "The list was taken from the film's credits. See External links".
- When writing names, use common sense than follow the source to the letter. Remember that those who write film credits and song books may not be proficient in the language. A case in point is the name of a lyricist called T. K. Sundara Vathiyar. At times (as in Sabapathy 1941) his name is written as Sundhira Vathiyar.
- It is not necessary to give the full cast list as given in the film credits or song books. Just the main characters are enough. Those who are interested may refer the cited source.
I am only a writer. I am not very familiar with Wiki rules. When I write articles, there are friends who edit them as per Wiki rules without changing my contents. Good luck. --UKSharma3 (User | talk | Contribs) 00:58, 28 January 2020 (UTC)
Personal Details
[edit]Hello Uksharma3,
Sir, I am Manoj (user Manojscen), I was the one that edited S C Krishnan's page yesterday which you reverted. I am grandson of Mr. S. C. Krishnan, son of Mr. S. C. Krishnan's first daughter Manonmani. My grandfather was a Tamilian and his father's name was Chellam Achary. Also his father was a doctor in Sivaganga king's court, he was not a jeweler. Can you please make these changes? Please let me know if you have any questions.
Regards Manoj -Manojscen (talk) 04:16, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
- I created the article long ago and at that time I did not mention whether Saurastrian or Tamilian. Later, while looking for information about T. M. Soundararajan, I came across a website for and by Saurastrian people created in 2009 and found S. C. Krishnan's name is also there. Therefore, I included the information in the article. However, I did not add the citation at that time. I have done it now.
- Dear Manoj, whether you are a relative or not is immaterial as far as Wikipedia is concerned because information on Wiki articles are based on authentic sources. A Website for/by the Saurashtra community is an authentic source to add information given on it. Other information about S. C. Krishnan was taken from another website. That source is given in the Bibliography section. Personally, I do not know any information about SCK. The info in the article are collected from web sources. If you say the information is wrong, you have to correct it at the source.--UKSharma3 (User | talk | Contribs) 06:46, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
- I suggest that you write the information you gave here, in the talk page of the article so that anyone more knowledgeable than me could take action on that. --UKSharma3 (User | talk | Contribs) 07:54, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
- Ok sir, thanks. Manojscen (talk) 05:17, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
Reply to Changing names haphazardly
[edit]Dear Uksharma3, I didn't mean to change the names of any actors or actresses or crew members in any of the articles I have edited. I was only following the opening credits of the film and the songs book, and the way they credited the people in the credits or books. For example, in the film article for Pudhu Vazhvu (1957), which you created, I changed the names of the actors and actresses names in order to make them follow opening credits of the film which is primary source. For example, though Randor Guy sites T. P. Ponnusami Pillai as T. P. Ponnusami Pillai, but in the film titles (in a blurry form), he is credited as Yadhartham Ponnusami Pillai. I think he acquired this name same time in the year 1954 but I don't know. As regard to using the same pattern as another user superbrickbro, I've never had any other accounts than this one. I just joined wikipedia five days ago in order to improve it and created an article for movie that I wanted to see have one (Mahathma Udangar). From now I will discuss it with the writer in the talk page in order to not get blocked for disruptive editing. I am an avid fan old Tamil films from the 1930s to 1960s, and today I'm going to the Roja Muthiah research library to get some information on some song books. I am also going to the The Cinema Resource Centre in Mylapore to also get some information. I am really sorry all of the confusion and wrong doing I have cost you and other editors as well. Thank you, TamilKadambamNatanam8 (talk) 05:08, 20 February 2020 (UTC)TamilKadambamNatanam8
- You are welcome to improve articles on Wikipedia. However, you should know that names written on film titles and song books are not edited by any Tamil scholars. I have seen lots of old Tamil films. I extract songs from those films and post in You Tube for the viewing/listening pleasure of old songs lovers. There are 6, 7 persons who collaborate with me including at least 4 persons who have published books on Tamil cinema. Randor Guy gives useful information but there are instances when errors are found in his articles (including printing errors). A source is only a guide to our writing. It does not have the final say. One should not just copy the names or information as it is found in a song book or film title. T.K. Sundara Vathiyar is a lyricist. But you can find in some film titles, his name is written as சுந்திர வாத்தியார். It doesn't mean you have to follow the film titles strictly. 'Yadhartham' is a title. If one is to write an article about the person in Wiki, the article would be titled T. P. Ponnusami Pillai because that is the person's name. There are exceptions like Sivaji Ganeshan. Though Sivaji is a title, the name got attached to his original name as if it was his personal name. But, though Nadigar Thilagam is equally popular, a Wiki article on him could not be titled as Nadigar Thilagam Sivaji Ganesan.
- I am happy to know that you do research but do not limit the research to song books and film titles. You should read books on Tamil cinema. Vamanan's "Thirai Isai Kalanjiyam", Neelamegam's Thiraikalanjiyam Parts 1 and 2 are good books that give authenticate information. I was a journalist and I was taught during our training that any information should be checked at least from two different unconnected sources. That is the guideline I observe to write articles on Tamil cinema. Best wishes. --UKSharma3 (User | talk | Contribs) 05:57, 20 February 2020 (UTC)

Bravo for all your contributions Sugram (talk) 04:38, 16 January 2021 (UTC) |
Hi Sharma Sir, Nice to communicate with you. I have list of songs of singers T. S. Bagavathi, T. A. Mothi, V. N. Sundharam and S. V. Ponnusamy. But I don't have enough information to create a page for each of them. Are you able to create for them?
- Thank you Sugram for the barnstar. You are very cooperative in developing articles created by me. Your interest in songs and their details is amazing!
- I can create articles on the first 3 persons mentioned by you but the problem is now I do not have enough time to create articles. I visit Wiki and do some editing just to be in touch. However, now that you have kindled my interest, I will try to create those 3 articles. But I do not have any information about S. V. Ponnusamy. Please give me some time. Thank you.--UKSharma3 (User | talk | Contribs) 05:03, 16 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Sugram: I have created the article on V. N. Sundaram (it is Sundaram, not Sundharam) and will develop it further when time permits. You can add the list of songs.--UKSharma3 (User | talk | Contribs) 03:01, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
- Good morning Sharma Sir,
- Nice to communicate with you again. I have created for T. S. Bhagavathi and Udutha Sarojini. Kindly feel free to add on. Sugram (talk) 01:48, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- Glad that you created those pages. Due to ageing problems, nowadays I'm not very active on Wiki. However, I will do whatever possible. Thanks for contacting. Keep up your good work. Note: Please change the title as T. S. Bhagavathi (thi). She sang mostly in Tamil and the Tamil way of writing the name is 'thi'. When I searched for T. S. Bhagavathi, the page was not shown in the result. UKSharma3 (User | talk | Contribs) 02:28, 31 March 2023 (UTC)

Direct, reliable sources needed for Days of the Year pages
[edit]You're probably not aware of this change, but Days of the Year pages now require direct reliable sources for additions. For details see the content guideline, the WikiProject Days of the Year style guide or the edit notice on any DOY page. Almost all new additions without a reliable source as a reference are now being reverted on-sight.
Please do not add new additions to these pages without direct sources as the burden to provide them is on the editor who adds or restores material to these pages.
Thank you. Toddst1 (talk) 13:48, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
- Understood. There are now 11 entries in the relevant section and none of them have direct reference to sources. There are reliable sources cited in the article. Any editor who knows the rule could have added that to my entry. That should be the spirit of those who want to develop Wiki. For some time now, I have very much reduced my contributions to Wikipedia because, to me, it seems there are more people to find fault than to contribute information.--UKSharma3 (User | talk | Contribs) 02:05, 10 June 2021 (UTC)

[edit]That's not how this works. If you need time to work on an article before it's done, you do that either in your own sandbox or in draftspace — you are not allowed to just save a bunch of links in a mainspace title with the intention of coming back to it later. A mainspace article doesn't already have to be perfect, but it does have to already be an article — if you need time to build an article, you do that in draft: or user:, not in main. Bearcat (talk) 03:22, 9 July 2021 (UTC)
- If I had known that it's going to take time, I wouldn't have started creating the article. In fact, I started to write and at that time I received a message. So, in a hurry, I wrote the links without visibility and left hoping to come back within a short time. But circumstances delayed me. It's ok. Sorry for taking your time.--UKSharma3 (User | talk | Contribs) 10:59, 9 July 2021 (UTC)
