(Ukengineer (talk) 20:39, 18 September 2013 (UTC))Please find the link below to the dissolution of the company in 2001[reply]

http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2001/3421/contents/made

Is the above enough to satisfy the requirements?

I'm not quite sure what you would want to cite that law for, but it would be considered a primary source, and Wikipedia prefers secondary sources. If you want to use it for the West Burton draft it will likely not suffice because I doubt the law so much as mentions West Burton. Huon (talk) 00:21, 19 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The file did belong to the C.E.G.B. which is now dissolved as per the above link the photo was taken at West Burton this is the only connection with it. Any help would be appreciated.(Ukengineer (talk) 11:17, 19 September 2013 (UTC))[reply]

So you want to cite the law as justification for using the photo? The law obviously doesn't mention the photo and thus cannot confirm that the photo was made by the C.E.G.B. Furthermore, the dissolution of the company does not mean its photos are released into the public domain; that claim simply is wrong. Luckily the website where you got it from says not only that it is copyrighted (contradicting the PD claim) but also that it has been released under a Creative Commons license. I have added the correct licensing tag to the image you uploaded. Huon (talk) 14:10, 19 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for pointing in the right direction its worth using the help function to move things forward instead of the fille being deleted due to copyright infringement.(Ukengineer (talk) 19:38, 19 September 2013 (UTC))[reply]

File permission problem with File:Shah of Iran at West Burton.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Shah of Iran at West Burton.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 16:56, 18 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

A file that you uploaded or altered, File:Westland Whirlwind XR487.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree files because its copyright status is unclear or disputed. If the file's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. You may find more information on the file description page. You are welcome to add comments to its entry at the discussion if you object to the listing for any reason. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 14:20, 29 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use

[edit]

The fair use template does not exist on Wikimedia Commons, because this site only hosts free files. Non-free files can only be uploaded with fair use template locally.--The Traditionalist (talk) 21:24, 2 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Sir (Frederick Herbert) Stanley Brown.jpg

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Sir (Frederick Herbert) Stanley Brown.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 18:47, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Control copyright icon Hello Ukengineer! Your additions to Draft:Gilbert Blackman have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 15:30, 15 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
