{{helpme}} had made an update and completed a number of the to do items for one of the blank maps in wikimedia commons but for the life of me i can't figure how to upload it correctly. thanksubernaut (talk) 19:42, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! Which blank map are you talking about, and what do you want to do with it? Let's see if we can get it done together. Decoy (talk) 20:18, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again. I caught your modification via search. Your attention to detail is amazing, so keep up the good work. Also, I think you'd like to discuss the high definition maps with User:Brianski who originated the map; you'd have much in common.

I think your problem came about because you renamed the chart. It would have been easier to just update the existing version, in-place. And in there, I think adding the water backdrop was perhaps not such a good idea: these high definition maps work best as source material for other maps, so they're supposed to only hold vectorial outlines. I think the best way to go would be to a) correct those little discrepancies, since you're one of the few people who actually cares enough to do that, in the primary chart, and then b) when you're happy with that, just give rise to a new map built to your particular needs. That way everybody can share the extra accuracy, but they don't have to have your color scheme either. But do discuss this with the mapping enthusiasts such as Brianski; they'll have tons to tell you about the vectorial mapping business before you ever have to worry about failed updates. :) Decoy (talk) 20:50, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you uploaded the file as File:World98+.svg, so the file name is different from the original, which is File:World98.svg. --KFP (talk | contribs) 21:17, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

hey thanks for the info and comments! i actually tried a number of ways of uploading before i finally gave up after the last attempt. the only reason i put the ocean in there is that it was on the to do list i think i also forgot to mention in the wikimedia commons description that i did all of the sorting of districts into countries as well as countries into UN sub-regions and sub-regions into continents. call me a nerd but i actually enjoyed doing that work on the maps. so the next step is to what post something to User:Brianski's talk page? thanks again!ubernaut (talk) 23:05, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
