hi, please be careful in your edit summaries. The show hasn't aired on the West Coast yet, so anyone who had the main article on their watchlists would have been spoiled by your summary. Thanks and happy editing. Lambertman 03:24, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:UWA-Official-Logo.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:UWA-Official-Logo.gif. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 19:11, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:HooverApts.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:HooverApts.JPG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Shell babelfish 18:55, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your Amazing Race Asia 2 Route Map

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Survivor Micronesia Official Logo.PNG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Survivor Micronesia Official Logo.PNG. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 13:07, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Praxis

[edit]

Hello. You’re edit to Praxis test confused me a little. The summary said Alabama is a state that requires the Praxis, but the list on the page is of states that require a test different from the Praxis. GromXXVII (talk) 11:07, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, okay. I thought it meant states that require the Praxis. I did not realize it was a list of states that require a different test other than the Praxis. I'll go back and revert it. UWAFanatic05 18:45, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

UWA

[edit]

Fanatic, I appreciate your zeal, but please see WP:NOTDIR. Much of the info you added is simply not appropriate here. Moreover, the article needs reliable sources--it doesn't have a single reference to something that is not the school website(s). Thanks, Drmies (talk) 20:42, 6 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Drmies, I have been referring to the University of Alabama page frequently. If it can have some of that information, why can't UWA? Can you please explain? Thank you. UWAFanatic05 (talk) 20:52, 6 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Also, there are other university pages across the nation with their alma maters and traditions listed on their pages. Can you please tell me why UWA cannot have these listed on their page? The page used to be in a much worse situation than this, and Sagefats and I were both given advice as to how to fix it. We are trying our best to get the article where it needs to be. What other references do there need to be if we can't use the school website? These are just concerns that I have. Please advise. UWAFanatic05 (talk) 21:15, 6 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Fanatic, that the fight song is on the Alabama main page actually makes no sense at all, and those cheers and stuff--and I'm taking care of it. However, that something is in that article, or the Auburn article for that matter (I'm forbidden by state law to edit that) doesn't mean it ought to be on the UWA page. And now it's no longer in the UA article--let's see if User:Tide rolls and User:Alarob let it stand. Drmies (talk) 23:09, 6 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, thanks for the message. Its looking much better now, I'm going to change the assessment rating to C class. If you guys can find some additional, independent sources, I think we can assign it to B class. If y'all haven't already, check out WikiProject Universities. Take a look at their Featured and Good articles, they may give you some good ideas for the UWA article. Altairisfar 22:32, 6 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Altairisfair, nice seeing you again. But...shouldn't you be out catching stuff at the parade? And if you've already been there, shouldn't you be taking a nap? Drmies (talk) 23:10, 6 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Fanatic, look at the alumni section. It's cropped a bit; I left a note about one of them on the talk page. Drmies (talk) 23:23, 6 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Drmies, thank you for your help. It's greatly appreciated. I've added an introduction and cited some sources outside of the school website. Please tell me what you think. I feel like together with you and Sagefats, we can get the article up to Wikipedia standards. I'm checking the WikiProject Universities and have been on the Good articles. UWAFanatic05 (talk) 00:00, 7 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

<--Sure thing, my pleasure. Listen, I think you should move that athletics stuff to a separate page. The current standings and scores, that really shouldn't be in the main article, especially since it requires constant updating. BTW, you made a "ref error" that I just fixed--look at this change. But the most important thing is to add external sources and to clean up the references, so that the ugly "linkrot" tag can go. Using templates (wp:citation templates) helps. Drmies (talk) 00:07, 7 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Can you continue to help me? We can move that athletics stuff to a new page called UWA Tigers, couldn't we? Please check behind me and make sure my references are good. UWAFanatic05 (talk) 00:11, 7 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. Name it like the other schools do--Alabama has Alabama Crimson Tide, so you should use the same type of name. That article doesn't need so much initially in the way of sources, as long as it has decent content; put an {{underconstruction}} tag on it. That will really clean up the main page. As for sources, I've been using this; you should also try the same search under the old names. Don't search Google Books for the schoolnames; all you get is useless directories, but maybe a Google Book search for the old names will bring up some interesting things. Good luck! BTW, Altairisfair is a really good content contributor with a couple of very good articles to his name (look at Gorgas–Manly Historic District)--and he's a nice person to work with. Drmies (talk) 00:21, 7 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Check it out: West Alabama Tigers, all ready and willing. I would start writing the lead and filling it out the way the Alabama article is done--so change the name and all that, what I put up there. Drmies (talk) 00:22, 7 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Drmies, thank you so very very much. It's coming along really, really well I think. Wouldn't you agree? My citations are all pretty good ones too, and I am hoping they are done correctly. What do you think of it so far? I'm going to work on some more sports pretty soon. UWAFanatic05 (talk) 05:30, 7 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Special Barnstar
UWA Fanatic, you have done an excellent job. Kudos! Drmies (talk) 17:10, 7 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, thank you! That really means a lot to me. Do you think there's any way we can get the page protected? I'd like to get it where only users like us can edit it, so not just anyone can edit it potentially vandalizing the page. UWAFanatic05 (talk) 21:32, 7 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • No no, that can't be done. Only if a page is heavily vandalized will administrators protect (usuall, semi-protect) an article (see WP:PP). Protecting too much, too easily goes against the very idea of Wikipedia. Articles with heavy traffic are more vandalized than others--when UWA is of Alabama's rank, you'll get that problem, perhaps, but until then I wouldn't worry about it now. Just add it to your watchlist and keep an eye on it. Drmies (talk) 03:15, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I wasn't sure if we could do that or not. I added it to my watchlist though. Did you check out the UWA page? I worked on the university's page some this afternoon. I modeled it after the University of Houston since that was on the Good articles list. There's still some work to be done, but we'll get it there. UWAFanatic05 (talk) 03:19, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Great work UWAFanatic and company. The University of West Alabama article is really coming along nicely, and West Alabama Tigers looks awesome!!! I tell you what though, it sure would be nice if we had some photos of the campus (other than just the old covered bridge), especially Webb Hall or even Bibb Graves. I just searched Flickr for free-use images, but there weren't any.
Drmies, I don't think I'm over my hangover(s) yet, my family is coming down from Marengo County this weekend. So... laissez les bons temps rouler! Altairisfar 22:00, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the kind words Altairisfar. I've been trying to locate photos of the campus as well but like you, I'm not having any luck. Maybe I can find out from some of my college friends if they'll take some for me to use. I could always try to take some myself when I go back, but I don't have a really nice camera like some do. We'll get this going, and I intend to e-mail some people regarding the campus and demographics sections. On another note, I'm so happy to hear you are liking the West Alabama Tigers page. That has been my biggest project the last few nights. Anyways, we'll get these articles up to par and most importantly, get good ratings from Wikipedia for our efforts. Fair use rationale for File:UWA-Webb Hall.jpg

Hey

[edit]

Sorry it took so long to get back to you, somehow I missed your earlier message on my talkpage. The University of West Alabama and West Alabama Tigers articles both look great. I updated the assessment rating for the university article to B-class, it deserves it after all of the hard work that y'all have put into it. The structure and prose are good, now I would focus on getting citations in place for statements that aren't already backed up by a reference. Then you'll be ready for the Good Article process, if you want to go that far. In my experience it can be frustrating process, so it wouldn't hurt to ask for a peer review first, after getting everything referenced. I hope this helps, take care. :) Altairisfar 16:51, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Altairisfair, that's no problem at all. I'm glad the assessment rating has been updated to B-class. We've tried our best to get it better. I'll see what I can do about getting citations for the statements not backed up like you said. Can you upload some more pictures and put the licensing and all that good stuff? When I get more pictures, I'll be glad to send them to you if you can do that. Thank you for your feedback as it's greatly appreciated. It does help, and you take care as well!  :) UWAFanatic05 (talk) 01:50, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, its looking better and better. If I were you, I'd go ahead and ask for a peer review. Just follow the "Nomination procedure" on that page to request one. Leave me a note if you have any problems. It may take quite some time (sometimes over a month) for someone to do one for you, but I would just keep tweaking the article in the meantime. Hopefully the reviewer can give you some pointers that I may not be aware of. Hope you had a nice weekend!!! Altairisfar 03:22, 8 March 2010 (UTC) (Jeff in Mobile)[reply]

Hey, got your message. Everything is good down here in Mobile. I'm so glad that spring has finally sprung. The article looks really nice! Hopefully the peer review can help turn up any problems that I may not be aware of, then you can ask for a GA assessment. Again, let me know if you have any problems and I'll do my best to help. [edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 01:28, 18 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Survivor Redemption Island Logo.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Replaceable fair use File:UWA-Webb Hall.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:UWA-Webb Hall.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please remove the tag.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Bkell (talk) 23:45, 13 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
