Hello,

May I please move you image Image:Tisza at Szolnok.jpg to the Wikipedia Commons? Thanks. --User:Hottentot

Thanks for the image. However, I think that the pixel to line-height ratio is a bit low. If you look at the image in the article you'll see that the letters blend together to much. But I already like it better than what we had before. Shinobu 21:29, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Sorry for the late reply; I was away. I uploaded a newer version with Bitstream Vera as the font, a larger line-height, and other misc adjustments that have hopefully made it a better picture. Comment back if it needs more work. Happy holidays. UED77 06:40, 31 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a million! When you upload the new version, please also check the thumbnail in the article to see if the text is still readable. Again, thanks for your trouble! I'll see the new file when you upload it. I wish you a happy and healthy 2006! Shinobu 17:48, 31 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Lang-mp: norsk and nynorsk vs. norsk (bokmål) and norsk (nynorsk)

[edit]

Hello UED77. Please see this edit. Whay did you use norsk and nynorsk instead of norsk (bokmål/riksmål) and norsk (nynorsk)? There are two equal way of writing Norwegian, called nynorsk and bokmål. These two written languages have their own Wikipedias, and thus their own Main Pages here on Commons. By naming the link to the bokmål Main Page norsk (“Norwegian”), you imply that this form of written Norgegian is superior to nynorsk. This is not correct, and both forms should be called norsk. The proper way of separating these two forms of Norwegian is to write norsk (bokmål) and norsk (nynorsk) – see thir names in the “In other languages” list.

You may want to read the article Norwegian language if you want to learn more about the confusing language policy of Norway. Affectionally, kjetil_r 20:18, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Little modification to protected template page

[edit]

Hi UED,

I already requested this by continuing our conversation on my talk page, but then it occurred to me you might not be watching it anymore. Can you please have a look? —Gennaro Prota•Talk 18:24, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've noticed it just now that I've logged on, but thanks for the note here as well. There is already a link to commons:Commons:First steps/Quality and description on the commons:Template:Information page, though. Would you like to have all the documentation removed and replaced with a link? I can see the advantages of that, but I just want to make sure. —UED77 18:32, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that is my intent. I've create a suitable template for that ({{Usage instructions cross-reference}}; feel free to modify it if it is badly worded). Btw, I guess User:Arnomane opposes this change, as he believes "redundancy is good" (and he is the one who protected the template page). I thought to point that out, as he could get angry with you, but there's no doubt that things should be kept in one place; these are not opinion issues, but common IT professional knowledge. —Gennaro Prota•Talk 12:14, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Virginia Beach City Public Schools

[edit]

Hello Rlevse,

I appreciate the recent changes you made to VBCPS articles, including Frank W. Cox High School. However, I do think that instead of the logo or seal, an actual picture of the school building would make more sense, as a photograph is better illustrative of a building tied to an institution that its seal is. I am considering switching back to the actual image of the school, but I'm also looking into methods to display both a picture and a logo, much like in Template:Infobox City.

It is also worth noting that it's highly possible that logos are copyrighted, and with the growing anti-fair-use sentiment on en.wp, it might not be a good idea to use them extensively. —UED77 23:05, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There is a special image tag for logos that is in wide use, so I see no problem there. I think the VB schools should be consistent and display a logo as that is much more representative of a school that a photo of a building, which almost no one will recognize, so I disagree on that point. Do schools teams wear the logo or a pic of the building? Do the Dallas Cowboys have a star or a pic of their stadium on their helmet? Rlevse 23:22, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
While there is indeed a logo copyright tag based on the fair use rationale, there are ongoing discussions in the Village Pump and on mailing lists about abandoning the use of fair use images and eventually deleting them. However, since there are no problems at the moment, they can stay until that happens. However, regarding the pictures, while I agree with you in that it is primarily the logo that serves to identify the institution, the buildings themselves serve as minor landmarks in their respective cities, and they should be depicted, if not for else then for reference, especially if such pictures are already available, as was the case with Cox.
Most institutions are tied to fixed buildings, say, sporting teams, for example, as they typically play at one specific arena, and are invariably associated with that place. In the case of many big-city teams, the team would have an article, and in most cases, so would the arena, and both articles would mention each other. In the case of schools, where neither the notability nor the availability of infomation warrants to separate articles, care should be made to mention both the institution and the bulding, illustrated, if possible. Yet, I am not expressly seeking to switch the logo for a photo, but rather find a way to display both. —UED77 23:48, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cropped image of your image

[edit]

I wanted to let you know I have made a modified copy of one of your photos (Glade Creek Grist Mill.jpg). The cropped image will be eventually used as a clickable button on List of West Virginia state parks, that will click through to your original image description page. I cropped the image to fit it in the list table I am creating. You can see a draft version at http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User:WVhybrid/My_own_sandbox . The cropped version of your image can be seen on the irow for Babcock. State Park. WVhybrid 23:59, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the kind comment! If you have any more photos of WV parks, please don't hesitate to upload them and insert into the state park article (each park now has a small article). Then I'll use it in the list. BTW, the photo is really good. WVhybrid 02:46, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Mount Hyjal.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:World of Warcraft World Map.jpg, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:World of Warcraft World Map.jpg is an unfree image with no fair use rationale uploaded after May 4, 2006 which has been tagged as not having a rationale for more than 7 days (CSD I6).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Image:World of Warcraft World Map.jpg, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:World of Warcraft World Map.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Huh? Well, I just tagged it again. Jack Merridew 13:08, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:World of Warcraft Eastern Kingdoms Map.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:World of Warcraft Eastern Kingdoms Map.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Jack Merridew 08:26, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Azeroth (demon)

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Azeroth (demon), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of the page. Speedy deletion of Kalimdor

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Kalimdor, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read our the guidelines on spam as well as the Wikipedia:Business' FAQ for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Excirial (Talk,Contribs) 19:05, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
