Bookmooch
[edit]Could someone please come up with a USERBOX for Bookmooch? I don't know how to create userboxes and I'd love to include one on BM on my page. Thanks!! Katie1971 ( Let's talk!! ) 14:19, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
I can make one up, but I don't think can we use the bookmooch logo, does that come under fair use? I will make a generic book one, and we can tweak it later. What would you like it to say? EraserGirl (talk) 04:22, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
You broke the wiki
[edit]This edit caused the page to exceed one of Wikipedia's technical limits. See WP:PEIS. As a result, templates near the bottom of the page are not showing up.
The fix is either to split User:UBX/Userboxes/Books, change it to not use {{yy}}, or to rewrite the yy template so it doesn't impact this limit as much. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 23:50, 15 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Davidwr: Chill!! I saw the problem before you jumped me, and am looking into it now. Give editors a stinkin' chance to see and fix issues caused by their edits before you leave comments like this on their talk page! Your attitude is not helpful, and I have moved your little lecture here because content discussions should be open to all. Also, since you so brilliantly didn't bother to check before lecturing me, both gallery pages had exceeded the template limit before my edit. I'm trying to move forward with solving problems and not let problem xyz prevent me from addressing problem abc. – voidxor 23:59, 15 November 2020 (UTC)
- Sorry, you are right, I should have waited and looked at the history. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 00:18, 16 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Davidwr: Yes, and also please don't name talk-page sections "You broke the wiki". Sheesh. I'd be rather proud of myself if I were able to bring the 13th largest website to its knees. Thanks for the apology, though. – voidxor 00:24, 16 November 2020 (UTC)

- @Buaidh: Can you help me to understand why the {{yy}} template requires more recursive template transclusions than the {{usbk}} template? I was expecting a clean swap, obviously.
- Also, why are these "User:UBX/Userboxes/" galleries even necessary anymore? They were created to aid in the userbox migration, which was 12 years ago. The main galleries are in the project namespace, so these strike me as redundant. – voidxor 00:16, 16 November 2020 (UTC)
- We have moved most of the User:UBX/Userboxes galleries to Wikipedia:Userboxes. Eventually all galleries will move to Wikipedia:Userboxes. All of the userboxes on User:UBX/Userboxes/Books should be moved to the appropriate Wikipedia:Userboxes gallery:
- Books should go to Wikipedia:Userboxes/Media/Books
- Authors should go to Wikipedia:Userboxes/Media/Books/Authors
- Book series should go to Wikipedia:Userboxes/Media/Books/Series
- Comics and graphic novels should go to Wikipedia:Userboxes/Media/Comics
- Newspapers and magazines should go to Wikipedia:Userboxes/Media/Newsprint
- Anime and manga should go to Wikipedia:Userboxes/Anime and manga
- When all of these userboxes are moved, we can REDIRECT User:UBX/Userboxes/Books to Wikipedia:Userboxes/Media/Books.
- The Template:Yy series uses more sophisticated logic than the Template:Usbk series. This may require somewhat fewer templates allowed per page, although a shorter gallery page can make the page easier to read. You can use Template:Yytab to direct the reader to an appropriate subpage. See Wikipedia:Userboxes/Media/Books#Authors and Wikipedia:Userboxes/Media/Books#Book series for examples. You can also break a very long gallery into subpages alphabetically. See Wikipedia:Userboxes/Anime and manga#Individual franchises for examples. Please leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions. Yours aye, Buaidh talk contribs 18:45, 16 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Buaidh: Perfect, thanks! Yeah, I've seen all of those examples before, but knew that you and others had a method to the madness. I'm glad to hear that the User:UBX galleries are already being merged into the project-namespace ones; I was about to propose the same. I'll do a little merging today and tomorrow to help remedy the problem that davidwr referenced. That said, I'm not going to drop my current transclusion-fixing efforts to work on gallery-merging efforts just yet.
- As far as {{yy}}, I get that it's more sophisticated (that's why I'm using it), but I still don't follow why it [supposedly] contains more nested transclusions. Or does it? I looked at the code yesterday and saw mostly parameter references (triple curly braces), not transclusions (double curly braces). If {{yy}} internally transcludes other templates that {{usbk}} does not, then why ('twas what I was getting at yesterday)? Or does the MediaWiki software count the parameter references against the template limit on each page (in which case, maybe {{yy}} doesn't need to support 10 parameters)? – voidxor 19:57, 16 November 2020 (UTC)
- You're probably right that Template:Yy doesn't need to support ten parameters, but you can still create pretty substantial gallery pages with it. Yours aye, Buaidh talk contribs 21:03, 16 November 2020 (UTC)
