HBO article - trimmed history

Hi Tvtonightokc,

The article on HBO is massive. It's one of the largest articles on wikipedia on the order of 375k bytes. Wikipedia articles are supposed to lean towards shorter for the purpose of ease of reading and the inclusion of only relevant (ie. not niche) information. I took the liberty of trimming it down - sorry I didn't give more detail on my edits - allow me to do that now.

I removed sentences and clauses that I felt was clearly not relevant to HBO directly - for example, I trimmed

"...to build a cable television system encompassing the Lower Manhattan section of New York City (traversing southward from 79th Street on the Upper East Side to 86th Street on the Upper West Side)"

to

"... to build a cable television system encompassing the Lower Manhattan section of New York City". Other sentences later in the section such as, "Sterling's use of underground cables complied with a longstanding New York City Council ordinance—originally implemented to prevent broad-scale telephone and telegraph outages..." may certainly be relevant to a book about HBO's history, but this isnt relevant to a layperson who is more interested in HBO than in NYC telecom law. I also removed a lot of stuff about behind-the-scenes executive decisionmaking, and kept only the results of those decisionmaking (eg. strategy changes like the shift to satellite). I think these removals that I have made are entirely reasonable and I ask that you revert the edits I made, and re add back at most a small part of what I removed, in case I messed up some sentences or something. If you really want this information, I suggest you put your more detailed information in a separate article, "History of HBO" or something of the like, where it would certainly be more welcome and relevant.

Besides all that I removed, there still is a lot of good historical information here that I liked and think should be kept, so (assuming you provided that) thanks for all of that!

Wikipedia article sizes are evaluated by characters of article-space text. References are not included. Omitting the infobox, I found about 140k characters, which is about 140kb or far less than the 375kb described by QueensanditsCrazy. In particular, Wikipedia:Article_size#Content_removal asserts that that even if the article ought to be made smaller, content removal should not be the immediate option. It appears that QueensanditsCrazy has found a list somewhere of the largest articles by total article size and desires to remove content to make them fit a preferred size. This is less-than-ideal because the size guidelines on WP articles do not apply to references. Any approach using a list of articles by total size looking to remove information will necessarily target better-referenced articles the most, since references contain words too. There are many articles on Wikipedia with 140k characters or more of articlespace; there is no need for No need for haste with this or any others.--Epiphyllumlover (talk) 18:40, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

I noticed that you were the primary caretaker of a number of the Fox Sports regional sports network articles. I just created Diamond Sports Group today, as a stub. Perhaps you would like to collaborate to build it out more extensively? I would like to add an infobox, but I'm kind of worn out from today's many edits. - AppleBsTime (talk) 03:25, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
