Mark Boardman

[edit]

This article has been created many times under different titles. It was subjected to a deletion review at WP:Articles for deletion/Mark Boardman which decided that the evidence presented did not establish notability in Wikipedia's terms, which requires evidence of "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Significant means more than just listing-type mentions; reliable excludes Myspace, Facebook, blogs, places where anyone can post anything; independent excludes the subject's own website, affiliated ones and press releases.

After the AfD the article was created several times more under various titles, and deleted under speedy deletion criterion G4 as a repost of deleted material, because they did not provide sources good enough to overcome the problems stated at the AfD debate. Eventually, because of persistent re-creation, the title was salted - protected from re-creation - so that you will require permission from an administrator, who will need to be satisfied that the article now presents evidence of notability sufficient to overcome the concerns at the AfD. The two administrators to approach first would be user Arbitrarily0 (talk · contribs), who closed the AfD, and me, because I salted the article. If you cannot convince us, you can take the article to WP:Deletion review.

What you need to find, I repeat, is "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." There is no point piling up multiple sources in blogs and Twitter, which are not reliable because anyone can post there. I don't know about saidwhat.co.uk, but the links to that don't give any more than his name, and clicking on it takes you to Amazon and a book written by someone else of the same name. Even if the quote was substantiated, the fact that he asked a celebrity if she would record a ringtone for him does not make him a celebrity, nor does being a "minor celebrity" on twitter. The audioboo reference shows that he was interviewed, though I note that he posted it himself. One of the earlier versions cited http://www.metro.co.uk/showbiz/32685-interview-mtvs-dave-berry which I thought at first was a substantial source, but when you read it he is not mentioned at all in the interview, only in a fan comment at the bottom.

In summary - in my opinion you need to find better evidence for notability if this is to get anywhere, and I would advise you to try to do that, and maybe trim out some of the more trivial bits of this, before you try to get it inserted. The Keira Knightley quote, for instance, sounds like a rather desperate attempt to achieve "celebrity" on others' coat-tails.

Minor advice:

  • I have spent a bit of time tidying the draft article up. You don't need to give a full URL like http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Keira_Knightley for an internal Wikipedia link - just put the article name in double square brackets like Keira Knightley.
  • It's best not to "spam" a request simultaneously across many people's talk pages - it is liable to lead to confusion and crossed wires. Also, if you have a draft article you want people to look at, make it in a user sub-page like this and then link to it, rather than dumping it on talk pages in full. (Don't worry about these things - it takes time to learn one's way around).
  • There is good advice about article writing at WP:Your first article, and more about the notability standards at WP:Notability (people), particularly WP:ENTERTAINER.

I'm out of time now - more advice tomorrow if I think of any. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 22:27, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your new draft

[edit]

...has been moved to User:Tvstarlondon/Mark Boardman 2, so both versions are still available to you; your user page is not the place for draft articles about someone else. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 19:53, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

@Legacypac: - you should put this warning on User talk:Tvstarlondon - my name is only first on the history of that draft because I moved it there from my talk page where he wrote it. JohnCD (talk) 20:54, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
