[edit]

You said in the discussion at Talk:Big_Ten_Conference#Which_new_logo_version.3F that the black-blue "B 10" version is the version the Big Ten "says" it is using. Where does the Big Ten "say" this? Yes, the other versions are no loner viewable at here -- but clearly, the initial press release, which links to the new logos page, states that "multiple versions" will be used. Are we also supposed to disregard the special which aired on the Big Ten Network? Levdr1 (talk) 10:47, 12 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

On Wikipedia, we have to go with what the sources say. When it comes to that logo, you have to rely on what the Big Ten says their logo is. It doesn't matter that they included the two line logo at one time, we have to go with what the source says now. Once we start speculating on what source meant to say, used to say, or didn't say, Wikipedia is no longer an encyclopedia — it's a rumor mill. In any case, the best place for this discussion is on the Big Ten article's talk page, so let's redirect all of our discussions there in the future. Daniel J Simanek (talk) 19:20, 12 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
First, thank you for your input, both here and on the article's discussion page. Second, I am well aware that Wikipedia content requires reliable sources, but thank you for reminding me anyway. As for "what the Big Ten says," bear in mind that its website still refers to "multiple versions" of the new logo at bigten.org/newlogo/. Consider, too, that the new logo link itself (bigten.org/genrel/121310aaa.html) is titled "New Big Ten Conference Logos" where only one is listed (this, of course, is coupled with the fact that link still gives a December 13 date despite the fact it has clearly changed since -- where else could the two-line version I uploaded have come from?). Having said all that, its clear the black-blue "B 10" version is preferred among editors, so I'm done pursuing the matter for now. Levdr1 (talk) 23:54, 12 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia in Higher Education

[edit]

Would you be interested in becoming a Wikipedia campus ambassador to Madison, WI? If so, please get back with me. Thanks! Bob the WikipediaN (talkcontribs) 00:19, 17 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am not sure I would have the time to fulfill all of those roles, but if I can sort of pick and choose, and do what I can, yeah I would be interested. It is just that I am still a student, so my first commitments would still be to my schoolwork. I also work for the campus help desk, so I would likely have to clear doing this with my group's communications staff. But let me know, because I would be interested in helping out in whatever capacity. Daniel J Simanek (talk) 17:19, 17 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'll you'll shoot an email to me Special:EmailUser/Bob the Wikipedian, I'll send you the application, and we can take it from there. Thanks! Bob the WikipediaN (talkcontribs) 01:18, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Wait? What exactly did you want me to do? Daniel J Simanek (talk) 02:01, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
My apologies! A campus ambassador is responsible for being available to help guide students in a course which has a Wikipedia assignment integrated into it. You would work alongside the professor (ideally along with a second ambassador as well) to make sure the project runs smoothly. You would be responsible for introducing the students to Wikipedia and guiding them through their first 100 edits to prepare them for the project, and you'd serve as the students' first go-to person if they had troubles using Wikipedia (though they will have a set of 2-3 online ambassadors that can work with them outside of any hours you're available). The estimated time commitment is approximately 4-5 hours per week, varying throughout the semester according to your own case.
If you know anyone in Madison who might be interested in this role, please have them contact me. Bob the WikipediaN (talkcontribs) 02:30, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Let me talk with my work's communications department. If I get their backing, I'll give it a try. Daniel J Simanek (talk) 05:39, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Great! You can download a copy of the application (save it to your desktop). Fill it out and submit a copy of that and an updated copy of your resume to the three following addresses:
  • bobthewikipedian [at] gmail [dot] com (me, your regional ambassador)
  • alin [at] wikimedia [dot] org (Annie, my manager)
  • ambassadors-en [at] wikimedia [dot] org (the database where we keep it on file)
I look forward to reviewing you and your friend's applications and resumes! Bob the WikipediaN (talkcontribs) 03:46, 22 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Daniel, I never received your application, and we're still looking in Madison. Did you submit one? Thanks! Bob the WikipediaN (talkcontribs) 21:41, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry about that. I have been really busy at work. I will get that in to you tomorrow. Daniel J Simanek (talk) 23:01, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, thanks! Bob the WikipediaN (talkcontribs) 00:02, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! You were provided as the source for File:Great Lakes 2011 Training.jpg, uploaded by User:Bob the Wikipedian. What I want to know is if you agreed to license the image as specified. If so, please leave a note on the file page. Thanks:Jay8g Hi!- I am... -What I do... WASH- BRIDGE- WPWA - MFIC- WPIM 03:52, 31 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It was me, yes. I believe I was the one that actually added the license (you'd have to check the history). Anyway, you meant the file talk page, right? Daniel Simanek (talk • contribs) 06:13, 31 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You've got mail!

Hello, Daniel Simanek. Please check your email; you've got mail! The subject is Campus Ambassador/Instructor Right Request.
Message added 08:23, 29 January 2013 (UTC). It may take a few minutes from the time the email is sent for it to show up in your inbox. You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{You've got mail}} or {{ygm}} template.

Hi, Daniel! I recently sent you a message requesting instructor rights, as I am currently looking to become a campus ambassador and assist my professor in the creation of content for her courses. I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions for you throughout the process, and I look forward to hearing from you and working with you! Jackson Peebles (talk) 08:23, 29 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

'Did You Know' feed

[edit]

Hello Dan,

My name is Brena Roberts, I am from Schreiner University's, New Media Technology and Communication class. Just wanted you to look at my stub Children's culture to see if I could make it onto the Did You Know feed. Do I need to do anything? This is fun, I really want to add more already! If I need to add a bit more to qualify I can and will. :) BMRoberts (talk) 02:26, 25 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Brena, I don't think you'll have a problem with length ;) One thing to keep in mind, however: you'll only have 5 days after making your additions to get nominated. It looks like your made your additions on the 22nd, so you'll still have three more days to get things going. I would also be very careful to review WP:WIADYK, and be very sure to take note of everything after and including step 3. If you want to get a DYK, it's important you meet those criteria. I think you'll well on your way to getting there, and it's pretty cool to get on the main page, so I would say go for it. Once you think it's ready, head over to T:TDYK to post your nomination. Don't let the rules scare you, and if you have any questions along the way, just shoot me another message! Daniel Simanek (talk • contribs) 04:35, 25 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
