Information icon Hello, I'm BilCat. I noticed that you made an edit concerning content related to a living (or recently deceased) person on Brian Snitker, but you didn't support your changes with a citation to a reliable source, so I removed it. Wikipedia has a very strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate and clear. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you! BilCat (talk) 23:33, 3 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. You made a mistake. Thank you. Treynich87 (talk) 13:53, 30 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions, such as the edit(s) you made to Sam Brinton, did not appear to be constructive and have been reverted. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make test edits, please use your sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. They use they/them pronouns. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 12:56, 5 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at Sam Brinton. Your edits appear to constitute vandalism and have been reverted. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. Repeated vandalism may result in the loss of editing privileges. Thank you. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 12:59, 5 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon This is your only warning; if you vandalize Wikipedia again, as you did at Sam Brinton, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 13:02, 5 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

ScottishFinnishRadish, learn the definition of vandalism. Treynich87 (talk) 14:08, 5 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have had my account with Wikipedia longer than you have, therefore, you do not have seniority or rank over me. Treynich87 (talk) 14:09, 5 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It's not about seniority or rank, it's about you intentionally using the incorrect pronouns for someone. MOS:ID makes this clear: Use gendered words only if they reflect the person's latest self-identification as reported in recent sources. MOS:GENDERID is also worth a read. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 16:34, 5 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Treymich87, this is about Wikipedia policy. We use the pronouns a living person has stated they prefer. Changing those pronouns is vandalism. Don't do it again.
FWIW, while there is no rank or seniority here, I would highly recommend you consider listening to people who have made literally thousands of times more edits than you have, as they're likely to haven encountered and learned policy you haven't yet encountered. If you enable Preferences>Gadgets>Navigation Popups, it'll allow you to hove over a user name and see how many edits a person has made. Valereee (talk) 04:05, 6 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

DS alert notification

[edit]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in gender-related disputes or controversies or in people associated with them. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

To opt out of receiving messages like this one, place {{Ds/aware}} on your user talk page and specify in the template the topic areas that you would like to opt out of alerts about. For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.
