Aircraft specs policy

[edit]

Several weeks ago, you voted in the WikiProject Aircraft Specifications Survey. One of the results of the survey was that the specifications for the various aircraft articles will now be displayed using a template. Ericg and I have just finished developing that template; a lengthier bulletin can be found on the WT:Air talkpage. Naturally, we will need to begin a drive to update the aircraft articles. However, several topics in the survey did reach establish consensus, and they need to be resolved before we implement the template. It is crticial that we make some conclusion, so that updating of the specs can resume as soon as possible. You can take part in the discussions here. Advisory Committee election deadline set

[edit]

Our new admin general, Essjay, has set the date for the advisory committee elections, that date being October 7th. By UTC it is October 5th right now. So see WP:ESP/E for voting in two days, and add yourself to the list if you're interested in running. On a personal note, I'm considering running, as I only resigned as admin general because of time. I'm sure I could help out on the advisory committee... Anywho, watchlist that page, and be sure to read the voting method too. Regards, Redwolf24 (talk) 01:11, 5 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Transclusion

[edit]

Hi. Here's some standard stuff:

When using template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:test}} instead of {{test}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template.

Keep up the good work! - brenneman(t)(c) 11:33, 7 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for proving me correct

[edit]

Trevor,

I've been advocating the Wikipedia to my family, having used it myself for some time. This lead my brother to deface a seemingly unimportant page, the Heuristics in Computer Science page. He was convinced the error wouldn't be spotted.

Thank you for proving me right, and sorry for the hassle.

Alex, username: alexwasserman

ps. I'm impressed with the IP based message system. He deliberately didn't sign in.

Thanks

Re: message about Pim Fortuyn

[edit]

Despite its best efforts, wikipedia isn't easily understandable for newbies. You sent me a message about the Pim Fortuyn article, and I have no idea if this is the correct way to reply. Oh well, hopefully you'll see it.

You asked me about a source, but I'm not sure to what you refer. I changed the election date, because the elections were in 2002, not 2001 as the article previously stated. Fortuyn was shot 5/6/2002, before the elections, as it says earlier in the entry.

And I said something about his bibliography. According to Bol.com (like Amazon, only European), he has done four http://www.nl.bol.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/nl/-/EUR/BOL_ParametricSearch-Start;sid=ZGW6nDBRIOa6nnMASDGEq9CJZRE7c5KLaJE= He also wrote 'De Puinhopen van acht jaar Paars' which doesn't translate into English easily, but roughly means 'The ravages left by eight years of the Third Way in the Netherlands'. This was a summary of his political visions and ideas. Other political parties give theirs away during election time, but he sold truckloads of his political programme. I'll do a bibliography, including ISBN's, later this month.

Well, the bit about the paedophilia is actually true - he describes his relations with adult men in his autobiography, apparently. Of course, he didn't speak up much about it during his election campaign. Holland may be liberal, but the time isn't ripe for a lean stance on paedophilia. Either way, even if it deserves attention, it shouldn't be the wads and wads of text that the vandal put in.

Thanks for the welcome!

Esperanza Spam

[edit]

Hello Esperanzians! A few announcements.

The Advisory Committee election results are in. In tranch A are Acetic Acid and Flcelloguy. In tranch B are Ryan Norton and Bratsche.

My other annoouncement is that our founder, JCarriker, has founded Esperanza's sister project, Wikipediology. I have written two essays here (my name is Matt Binder). My essays are under Teenage Wikipedians and Anon Editors.

On behalf of myself and Jay Carriker and the other wikipediologists, I would appreciate it if you were to join.

Block

[edit]

I saw you blocked SJPP for RfAr vandalism. As I'm sure you know, it was a SuperTroll sock. I've been chasing them for about a half an hour, and I went ahead and created {{Supertroll}} to make identificaiton and blocking easier. I unblocked/reblocked SJPP so that the {{Supertroll}} would show in the blocklog (making it easier to identify) but I wanted to let you know 1) because I don't like to mess with another admin's blocks without leaving a note, and 2) so you'd know about the template for future blocks. Good work catching that one, and I'll see you out there! -- Essjay · Talk 18:14, 21 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

There's a POV'er who removed Art and Philosophy. So, we need to address that issue on that page's discussion page. The person who removed Art and Philosophy cited the discussion on Template talk:MainPageIntro#portal:art and portal:philosophy. However, that discussion was tied 2 to 2. Please go there and support Art and Philosophy. Art packs a lot of punch for being only 3 letters, while Philosophy is on the same level as Science, both of which rank above Mathematics on the hierarchy of fields. See ya at that discussion! Main page design

[edit]

Thanks for the ideas in your Main page redesign (Italian style) proposal. I think there are many good ideas to consider. May I suggest moving your "vote" to a separate heading, from "I prefer the main page draft", so we can better gauge user feedback to your ideas? I don't want to move your comments, myself as you did vote for the Draft. I just want the main page design to be whatever the community wants, so welcome whatever suggestions and feedback provided. Thanks. —--Aude (talk | contribs) 22:16, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You commented on the wrong draft...

[edit]

The draft was altered by someone who I asked to fix a couple things, though he executed the fixes to the old draft and posted that. I've incorporated his fixes into Draft 5, and it is waiting for your reinspection. Go for it! 22:40, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have received an answer by user Hill, the original creator of the images. He released them in the public domain, so they're free for anyone to use. He hasn't created other similar images, but could do so if necessary. He also said that using these images on the English Wikipedia main page could be problematic because for every season in the Northern Hemisphere there is an opposite season in the Southern one. An Esperanzial note

[edit]

As I remember, the last spam that was handed out was on the 20th of December last year, so I think it's time for another update. First and foremost, the new Advisory Council and Administrator General have been elected. They consist of myself as Admin General and FireFox, Titoxd, Flcelloguy and Karmafist as the Advisory Council. We as a group met formally for the first time on the 31st of Decembe. The minutes of this meeting can be found at WP:ESP/ACM. The next one is planned for tonight (Sunday 29 January) at 20:30 UTC and the agenda can be found at WP:ESP/ACM2.

In other news, Karmafist has set up a discussion about a new personal attack policy, which it can be found here. Other new pages include an introductory page on what to do when you sign up, So you've joined Esperanza... and a welcome template: {{EA-welcome}} (courtesy of Bratsche). Some of our old hands may like to make sure they do everything on the list as well ;) Additionally, the userpage award program proposal has become official is operational: see Wikipedia:Esperanza/User Page Award to nominate a userpage or volunteer as a judge. Also see the proposed programs page for many new proposals and old ones that need more discussion ;)

Other than that, I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and wish you an Esperanzially good new WikiYear :D Thank you! --Celestianpower háblame 16:57, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pic of the day - column format

[edit]

It's a permanent project now. All we have to do is keep up with it. It's pretty simple:

For each pic, copy it to our archive and strip out the formatting and comments. The guy who maintains the pic of the day only keeps it stocked 1 to 3 days in advance; usually 2 days - which requires we keep a pretty close eye on it. We can't copy them until he's created them.

So if the pics run out, just stock them up again.

From the Italian Wikipedia

[edit]

Hi, I'm sorry, but my English is most bad. I have seen your draft and I find it much beautiful, but in this moment I don't have a lot of time to spend in order to help you. I have tried to work on the height of the two columns (to make them to end at the same time) but without success. The problem is that cannot be established a standard height for all the video resolutions, otherwise we could use simply the parameter height=600px (for example). However, if you can take a look at my personal sandbox... I'm working on the restyling of the Main Paige of it.wiki and I have some problem too (I cannot see the images of background with Internet Explorer). I hope that you have understood all. :-/ Bye. Another Esperanzial note...

[edit]

Hi again Esperanzians! Well, since our last frolic in the realms of news, the Advisory Council has met twice more (see WP:ESP/ACM2 and WP:ESP/ACM3). As a result, the charter has been ammended twice (see here for details) and all of the shortcuts have been standardised (see the summary for more details). Also of note is the Valentines ball that will take place in the Esperanza IRC channel on the 14th of February (tomorrow). It will start at 6pm UTC and go on until everyone's had enough! I hope to see you all there! Also, the spamlist has been dissolved - all Esperanzians will now recieve this update "newsletter".

The other major notice I need to tell you about is the upcoming Esperanza Advisory Council Elections. These will take place from 12:00 UTC on February 20th to 11:59 UTC on February 27th. The official handing-over will take place the following day. Candidates are able to volunteer any time before the 20th, so long as they are already listed on the members list. Anyone currently listed on the memberlist can vote. In a change since last time, if you have already been a member of the leadership, you may run again. Due to the neutrality precident, I will not vote for anyone.

Yours, as ever, Esperanzially,
