Help me!

Please help me with... Can someone help me figure out where in the "approval" line my article stands, or what I can do to move it along in its progress to being published? It's here: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Draft:Drew_Boyles

Also wondering how to get a photo approved for upload with a caption that reads "Courtesy of the City of El Segundo" because that is all the caption necessary that the City gave me to use with the photo! Followed the protocol for adding an image and got rejected, would love tips on how to make it work to include in this article, since Drew Boyles is the mayor of El Segundo, CA. Thanks! Your draft Draft:Drew_Boyles has not been submitted for review yet, so it's waiting for you to take action. Before you submit it, you should improve it in a number of ways: Identify in the lead why Boyles is notable. Add inline citations to or remove paragraphs that do not have them. Fix your external links section - best would be to turn them into actual cited references if suitable, but they're optional and could just be left out.

As for the photo, the copyright status is unclear from your description, so it may not be possible to use the photo. The caption you cited is an attribution, but it's quite possible the copyright is still held by the photographer and if the caption is required as a photo credit too closely with the use of the photo, it may not be in accordance with Wikimedia's or Wikipedia's policies about how photo credits are done. Thank you for your input! It's been about a decade since I last published a page so I am a little rusty, but I incorporated your suggestions. Now I am just confused about the final step to publish--I thought I had taken the right next step in moving from my sandbox and clicking a "ready for review" button, which then told me to move it to a draft page. Is it as simple as moving my page to Wikipedia at this point? I appreciate your help in guiding my less-than-technical brain through this process. Ideally your human direction and having our conversation in my talk pages for eternity will help me in the future as well, if I ever get rusty again :)

Yes, I wasn't on Wikipedia a decade ago, but even in my time here there have been significant changes in the articles-for-creation area.

So you understand the difference between the 'Publish changes' button (which used to be something like 'Save changes') and actually submitting a draft for review? It sounds like you got close there, but were confused by the option to move the page to Draft: space. It would be okay to take that step as yours is a sufficiently well-developed draft that I wouldn't insist that it is better in user space than draft space. But moving it is optional and drafts submitted for review can be in either user space or draft space, it makes no difference to the process.

The place where I would suggest improving the draft is to figure out exactly what sort of case you're making for Boyles's notability. As the mayor of a can-we-say-minor? city, it's unlikely that he'd be considered as passing at NPOL. There are some other angles that might work, but you'll need some in-depth coverage from national-level newspapers or magazines to get it to fly.

Also, much of the body of the article is still lacking inline citations and that will cause most reviewers to decline immediately because of BLP policy.

So I encourage you to keep working on the draft and I hope you'll also try some other editing tasks, as this one, creating a new article, can get pretty frustrating. — jmcgnh^{(talk) (contribs)} 01:54, 11 August 2020 (UTC)

I really appreciate your input and suggested reading, it's all making more sense! I will keep thinking about how to make this subject more likely to be considered notable...but I have to say, the El Segundo presence is strong with being noted as the aerospace capital of the world (home of LA Air Force Base, Aerospace Corporation, Boeing, Northrup Grumman, etc) plus being home base to AT&T/Direct TV, the Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Kings, Mattel, and one of the busiest refineries in the country. But all that's not going to help Drew's story, I get it! :) Take care and have a great rest of the week!
