Wikipedia's Expert Peer Review process (or lack of such) for Science related articles
Hi - I posted the section with the same name on my talk page. Could you take part in discussion ? Thanks ARP Apovolot (talk) 21:34, 25 October 2008 (UTC)
User: Shotwell suggested (on my talk page) "I would endorse a WP:EXPERTADVICE page that outlined the wikipedia policies and goals for researchers in a way that enticed them to edit here in an appropriate fashion. Perhaps a well-maintained list of expert editors with institutional affiliation would facilitate this sort of highly informal review process. I don't think anyone would object to a well-maintained list of highly-qualified researchers with institutional affiliation (but then again, everyone seems to object to something)." We could start with that if you would agree ... - could you help to push his idea through Wikipedia bureaucracy ? Cheers, Apovolot (talk) 23:14, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
Obscure passage in perfect space article
You added the following parenthetical remark after the assertion that all first category spaces are perfect: "so similar to a compactification, we can 'make' a space of the first category by adding a singleton set to its topology."
What does this mean? And what is the logical relation to perfect spaces (why the "so")? Plclark (talk) 06:01, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the correction. I get it now, and I rewrote your comment in somewhat more precise language. Plclark (talk) 10:14, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Semiregular_space#Semiregular_space
If two articles duplicate each other, there's no reason to delete either one. You can (without an AFD discussion) propose a merge on the talk page. If people agree, or if the situation is clear cut, you can then just redirect one of the pages to the other one. This has several advantages: it maintains the functionality of links to the both pages, allows readers who know the alternate name to find it when searching, and maintains the edit history of the redirected page. Also, this process doesn't require any administrator help.
Do you mind if I close the AFD, and we can move forward with discussing the merger on the articles' talk pages? Merge discussions are not usually carried out via AFD, and probably many people who follow AFD will not have the content knowledge (or interest) to help with a complex discussion of equivalent definitions. — Carl (CBM • talk) 13:00, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
OK, I closed the discussion there. Could you reply to C.S. at Talk:Locally regular space? Apparently the definitions in the two articles vary slightly (which could just be an error on the part of some previous author). I am not familiar with the terminology.
If the right name is semiregular space, let me know and I will rearrange the articles. I'm an 'administrator' so I can delete pages or redirects as needed to accomplish a rename. — Carl (CBM • talk) 01:46, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
RE: IP: 75.40.215.212
Unfortunately, I cannot block for the following reasons:
- The "last warning" was given in mid-August. Policies state that if it has been a while (in this case, 3 months), they should be given another chance at contributing successfully. I say this because it might be a dynamic IP, and the user may not be the same. My IP might change every few months, or not at all.
- I am not an admin.
Sorry, but this is both not an eligible block request and I couldn't do it even if it was OK. I'd probably be an admin if I just don't screw it up every few months. Sorry! TNP (formerly Jonathan) 04:19, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
Archiving a talk page
Hi, Topology Expert. Have a look at this: Wikipedia:Archiving_talk_pages. - Richard Cavell (talk) 09:45, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
