Slovenia taskforce

[edit]

Well yes the purpose is to have a log of missing articles this is why I create lists but yes a category is better although a category can't give the birth and death dates or a summary. Its just lists of people have sprung up all over wikipedia and I didn't want Slovenia to be left out. Perhaps the task force could discuss copying the slovenian bio lists from slovenian wikipedia into the task force rather than the mainspace? ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 17:48, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What I'll do is tag the new stubs I create with Template:Expand Slovenia which puts new stubs in Category:Slovenian articles needing translation so this way the project has a log of recently created articles which may require a bit of expansion to become acceptable. They don['t have to be expanded much but at least a little bit of knowledge added to them. I sure wish I could speak the language ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 17:45, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know if tagging new stubs is the best idea, I'd prefer having a list of those on the taskforce site. Or even better, to use tempaltes on talkpages with assessment on the quality scale (so we get them sorted). And it would be nice to check, how many FA and GA are there already and what articles are close to that. I remember Olm at the moment, maybe there're more. As for the lists, there are good lists and bad lists, I still haven't found a perfect way to deal with them. Anyway... at least we are moving forward. --Tone 18:12, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well I see it as a way forward. I have no problems if the lists are moved to the project space Believe you me I'd rather create full articles but it isn't possible to begin with because of the language barrier. I'll trust the judgement of yourselves for notability and will only create stubs if I believe they can be expanded and are indeed notable enough. I think you should be pleased that things are developing ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 18:29, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Certainly I am very happy with recent development. You did a great work with initiating the project. Hm, some time ago I created Portal:Slovenia that is now stagnating, maybe we could include it somewhere? --Tone 18:31, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Anyway the recently created article category is linked on the project main page as a request for expansion ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 18:31, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well it really is good to see that several editors such as yourself and the others are on the ball, and are also capable individuals who are able to root out the articles which aren't notable. Lets hope coverage and quality can increase in due course. Regards ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 18:42, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

:-) As you have noticed, we are having a discussion on three talkpages (we two and Viator). Maybe we should discuss issues, that are relevant to the project on the taskforce talkpage... I'll add that thing about wuality rating to the page as well. --Tone 18:46, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re : Comment

[edit]

The reason I reverted User:Jovanvb's edits is because this user didn't discuss these changes with other users before editing , he only placed a note saying it was POV so he is removing the flag and coat of Arms for NPOV (as well as the name ) , even if this edit was neutral it should have been discussed first, right ?As for the bilingual names : they were bilingual but User:Ev removed them ( see the diff here ) , cheers --Cradel 17:58, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This debates get overheated too quickly, I know how hard it is to stay calm. Well, we try our best... Curious about bilingual names, I'll think about it. Cheers. --Tone 18:12, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cities, towns and villages in Slovenia

[edit]

Hi I've had a chance to look at the settlements in Slovenia today and the vast majority are a shambles and have been subject of a tagging plastering session because they are unreferenced and have multiple issues. Can we make it a project priority to clean up these pages and expand to an acceptable level, particularly the municipalities of Slovenia -thankyou ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 14:08, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Comment I am not a big fan of those lists, I know they were first created at sl: wiki and then moved here. In a way, they are ok but on the other hand, they would better serve their purpose as a part of Wikiproject as lists of missing articles. For existing ones, we already have categories. In any case, if the consensus is keep, some trimming is required. For beginning, delete the red links from the template, some can be added later. --Tone 18:43, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly tone this is what I am suggesting -move to the project and keep template for projetc use only ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 19:29, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why delete ARTiSAN Studio

[edit]

Hi, why did you delete the ARTiSAN Studio entry? There are other UML tool vendors (as well as other software design tool vendors) who have posted details of their products (in most cases they are much more commercially oriented than our entry) that have not had their entries deleted. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.178.33.86 (talk) 08:24, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. The article was still pretty much a commercial and Wikipedia is not the right place for those. If you find other advertisments, feel free to point them out for me and I will have a look. Maybe those need to be deleted as well. Regards. --Tone 20:32, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just an FYI, the US Dept. of Labor is the one who published the text in the article it is therefore in the public domain. I don't really care either way, but you deleted the article stating it's a copyvio which it is not. Like I said, just an FYI. --Canspam (talk) 05:39, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hm, the website in the sd link had a copyright tag at the bottom. If it's from another site, I don't know... In any case, the article would need a general rewrite because there was just a bullet list with no references, no intro and so. --Tone 07:05, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Haha, I see you still have a good sense of sarcasm :-) Well, I suppose the best thing to act when the debate is heated (the way I do it) is to write an answer, read it again and then close the browser without posting. It vents out some negative energy and does not add even more heat to the discussion. Hope that helps... Cheers. --Tone 21:01, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That would definitely help if I had that ability. But I type something up as fast as I can, than hit tab a couple of times and smash the space bar to post it as soon as I can. That way all my anger and riff raff gets vented AND posted. It's a method that I'm still perfecting, obviously. Beam 23:48, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Prishtina/Pristina and Mitrovica

[edit]

Since I have been banned from Kosovo articles I just wanted to reply to your solution on the naming issue.

"Regarding the other cities and towns, if there has been no proposal yet, what about using a Serbian name for places with Serbian majority (like Mitrovica) and Albanian name with Albanian? Of course, unless there is a widely accepted name in English, such as in Pristina case (I am not sure whether there are more cities like this)."

Mitrovica is exactly the case, which in my opinion, could only be solved with the proposal of Mareklug. You state that Mitrovica has a serb majority, which is true for the northern part of the city. And they call it Kosovska Mitrovica. While the south names itself Mitrovica and has an albanian majority. If we were to use the majority rule in this case, we would end up in unending debates about figures and numbers. Also in debates as to which form is the most english one. Obviously Kosovska Mitrovica is more present but so is Mitrovica. So using the method of Mareklug this city would reside under two names, which wether RoK and Kosovars accept it or not, is a fact. If and when Mitrovica would become one, then the Kosovska Mitrovica article would remain as a historical fact and would be used in a historical context. Thanks and sorry for taking up your time. Regards, Jawohl (talk) 10:26, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tone, even if it isn't "widely accepted" English version, ANY English version should be preferred over a Serbian/Albanian/JupiterSpeak version. Beam 03:24, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I searched for the Wikipedia article "Artmoney" and see that you deleted it. Could you resurrect it?

(The reason given for deletion was: something like "notability undocumented". I can easily add some material establishing notability. It is used by thousands of artists, in many countries, the amount of money involved runs in the hundreds of millions $, in some countries there are legal or IRS problems. Really a notable topic today, as I discovered searching out other sources than Wikipedia.)

(If you answer, answer here, not on my nonexistent talk page.) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 7bdsthij (talkcontribs) 13:31, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. So, here's the thing. You are very welcome to add references and fix the article to suit the standards. In order not to get it speedy deleted again, I suggest you fix it in your userspace. So if you agree, I can copy the content to your user talk page, you work on it and repost it when finished. Tell me. Greetings. --Tone 18:27, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
"So, here's the thing" - at first I assumed that meant you were giving a pointer to the text, but it must be some idiomatic English for "See, it is like this:". In the meantime I noticed that Google cache still has the old article. A translation from a Danish version, still with several Danish words.
I would prefer if you just restored the article - you may delete it again on Monday if you wish and don't like it - I am not very experienced with Wikipedia editing and copying stuff around seems unnecessarily complicated.

OK, I added a section and a few links. Funny, a robot came along and destroyed the page again, possibly because of a myspace URL that I mentioned in an html comment. Hi. The article was ok, but there was no assertion why this house is notable... Were there any famous people living in? Is it a nice example of some architectural style?... UP ACM Deletion

[edit]

Hi Tone,

I'm puzzled as to how the Association for Computing Machinery - UP Student Chapter is "non-notable", which was your grounds for the article's deletion. Granted, it *is* 'but' a chapter of the ACM, but I think that's a weak basis for being called 'non-notable', especially when viewed in the light of the org's status and achievements.

If being a mere chapter of a larger org means it is non-notable in the US or some countries, then the case is different in ours, I should say. In the Philippines (and more specifically, the University in which it is based), UP ACM is a notable and very much independent organization, having won a couple of international awards (as was stated in the article, and for which it broke national news) and having rendered serviced to the Philippine government (see [Technical Education and Skills Development Authority http://www.tesda.gov.ph/]).

Thanks.

Hi. The article was deleted in a standard prod process. The problem stated was No context, no evidence of notability. You see, the article needs to establish why is he notable (played in notable films, won awards, media coverage...). And you need references for that. The only content was that he's an actor and when is his birthday. So if you can provide more information, I will gladly restore the article. The WP process indeed is supposed to work like someone starts an article and others expand it, however, the beginning article should not be a micro-stub but at least include some content. Regards. --Tone 11:39, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of SharpReader article.

I'm not the original author of the article, but would like to propose it be restored. This is the only aggregator listed in the list of feed aggregators that does not have it's own page on Wikipedia. [edit]

Hey Tone, I've seen you on ITN/C and related pages so I was wondering if you could help me with something. User:68.203.243.155 has repeatedly vandalized the United States men's national soccer team article as well as the articles about players that recently scored goals against Mexico for the US. These are the only edits he has made. Obviously this guy is just a mischeivous Mexico supporter, but he's gotten to be a real pain. Is there any way you can warn or block them from making edits for a while, as I just undid their latest act of vandalism. -- Grant.Alpaugh 01:44, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I see this IP's last edit was ten days ago so I don't think I need to act now. However, if this continues, leave me a note and I will check the situation. Also, a semi protection of the article would be in place in case of IP vandalism. Cheers. --Tone 07:04, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I insist that you restore the GlobalVAC page. You claim this was an advertisement, yet there are other virtual aviation network pages that exist without this harassment on Wikipedia. That article is no more an advertisement than the IVAO or VATSIM articles. You will replace the page, or I will take the issue up with a deletion review. There is nothing in that article but accurate information about the current state, and history of GlobalVAC. There was no discussion of this issue, the page was simply removed without notice. Your personal opinion of the article is not enough reason for it's removal. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.47.121.58 (talk) 05:13, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. The article was deleted in prod process, the reason was Fails to meet notability guidelines after over six months of being a page, bordering on a pure advertisement. You are welcome to improve the style, otherwise it can end up at deletion discussion again. Regards. --Tone 06:58, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please close the discussion on the talk page so we can end this debacle. For the record, I felt your closure was far too premature (3 days?) when a discussion which took place just last month, and was open for 14 days, resulted in the opposite consensus. Also, a parallel discussion at WP:FOOTBALL was taking place which was heading, at the very least, towards no consensus to move. The Rambling Man (talk) 06:59, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What I have noticed isthat some users have a fake RFA with questions etc, like this admin coaching subpage. Editorofthewikireview my edits here! 10:56, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Fake RfA questions... I think it is more important to show that you can actually handle a situation as an admin instead of being able to write brilliant prose as an answer :-) But sure, I can present some imaginary situations for you to consider. --Tone 16:09, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reason for deletion of topic SmartWorks

[edit]

Respected Sir,

I have been trying to post an article on SmartWorks, a project planning tool and an enterprise management tool. But I failed with couple of attempts. Sorry that I could not get the reasons for deletion and I need your help and advise. I am not an expertise in using Wikipedia and am confused as to what and where to edit. Kindly help.

Thank you and Regards, Smartaccord (talk) 06:19, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I see the article was deleted as a result of a discussion before. In short, in order to write an article that is not an advertisement, you should state why the product is notable and provide second-hand references for that. Also, haev a look at WP:PRODUCT. I hope it helps. Regards. --Tone 13:58, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please read and comment. I have 1 or 2 more days to go on my shortened ban, so I figure when I come back I'd like to *BAM* put up a sweet section. Beam 22:37, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Admin Coaching

[edit]

Hi,

Im highly interested in admin coaching, as i would like to become an admin in the near future and also to learn about an admins roles, dutys and ethics. Following instuctions on the coaching page it was suggested that I contact an admin who hasnt got any coachees instead of waiting for things to be done for me. I was wondering if you had the time to admin coach me, I look foward to your reply, Cheers Prom3th3an (talk) 08:39, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Honestly, some users have already asked me to be their coach but I am so busy recently that I can conduct a proper coaching... However, if you have any questions, I will be glad to help you, you will just have to wait maybe a day or two for an answer. Greetings. --Tone 20:39, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How are you? Beam 23:21, 4 June 2008 (UTC) I SAID...HOW ARE YOU?! ;) Beam 13:31, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, must have missed your last post... :-) I am doing fine, busy as always but still manage to check what's going on every now and then. And you, how's it going? --Tone 13:36, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Apology

[edit]

I am really sorry for blocking you. I meant to block someone else, but I wasn't paying close enough attention to what I was doing. I wish I could blame the weed, but this one's all on me. Believe it or not, I usually don't do anything amazingly stupid like that. I beg your forgiveness, take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 08:10, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, mistakes happen. Cheers. --Tone 08:52, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Admin coaching?

[edit]

Hi, Are you available for admin coaching? I've been here on the wiki for over a year (nearing on two, actually), but it's only recently that I've started running into situations where I could really use the tools- like creating accounts with names similar to existing but inactive accounts (I'm a member of the account creation team).
Anyway, I'm really opinionated and I've had some problems with temper in the past (although maybe that's just me beating myself unnecessarily, who knows) so I'm not exactly a Perfect Model Editor™, but I'm a very good one, at least. So, if you're not busy, I'd appreciate your help.
Thanks for your time! L'Aquatique[talk] 05:28, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Whoops, just happened to read like three posts up and see that you are busy! Sorry to bother you. If you have more time in the future, I'd love it if you'd get in touch... L'Aquatique[talk] 05:29, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. You are always welcome to ask if there are any kind of questions. But I really don't have time for a full-time coaching these months... Greetings. --Tone 07:23, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I do have one question. If I were to come across a page that I would normally mark as a CSD- like copyright infringement, etc, as an admin can I just delete it or do I need to mark it CSD and ask another opinion? L'Aquatique[talk] 21:25, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If the article meets the CSD criteria, then it should be deleted. To determine, whether it meets them, is a personal decision. If it is an obvious CSD, delete it straight ahead. If not sure, it's better to use prod or afd. The fact that another editor has already tagged an article csd can serve you as an aditional opinion. But even if you delete the article, if the author is commited to write something good, he/she will contact you on the talkpage - this happens to me often when I clean the prod cat. It is almost always possible to restore deleted content. (looking at what I've just written, it may look confusing. The message is: if sure, delete. If not, tag and wait for another opinion.) I hope this helps. Greetings. --Tone 21:56, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, and if you delete a tagged article, the edit summary with the reason will be provided automatically. If there is no tag, make sure you write the reason. --Tone 21:57, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That answers my question perfectly, thank you! L'Aquatique[talk/think] 23:29, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Undeleted Discussion pages

[edit]

Hello, Tone ... When you deleted these articles, did you forget to delete the Discussion pages as well?

OTOH, they do contain {{Oldprodfull}} documentation to prevent recreation. :-)

Happy Editing! — 151.200.237.53 (talk) 22:11, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, now I am confused. What's with this templates and why are they there with the deleted articles? If I remember correctly, there is a bot that takes care of the talkpages of the deleted articles so these should be gone shortly. Or were there some changes? In that case, please, bring me up to date, I was not following a lot recently. Cheers. --Tone 22:31, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No problemo ... they were on my Watchlist, so I noticed them as soon as they were deleted, but before the bot could get to them ... sorry, but I didn't know that a bot did it; I thought that it was included in the protocol for admins to either flag or delete at the same time.
Those Oldprodfull tags were added during the PROD or 2nd of the PROD as an aid for the closing admin, and to prevent an attempt to PROD again after it had been contested ... it's a Very New template (less than six months old) and since all trace of it evaporates when an article is deleted, who's going to notice it? ... I sometimes patrol Category:Proposed deletion-endorsed and add it to Discussion pages (it's an OCD thing. :-) — 151.200.237.53 (talk) 23:12, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted discussion

[edit]

Hi, Tone. I'm not the originator of the article Geoff Schumacher, but I would like an opportunity to restore it, if possible. He is an author, journalist and, most notably, considered a historian in the Las Vegas area. I'd like to work on it and resubmit it in a form that meets your content requirements. Is that possible? Thanks very much. AuthorAuthor (talk) 07:28, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, you are welcome to improve it. The thing you have to address is the reason for deletion, namely "No non-trivial coverage of subject by reliable, third-party published sources.". Regards. --Tone 07:37, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Physics participation

[edit]

You received this message because your were on the old list of WikiProject Physics participants.

On 2008-06-25, the WikiProject Physics participant list was rewritten from scratch as a way to remove all inactive participants, and to facilitate the coordination of WikiProject Physics efforts. The list now contains more information, is easier to browse, is visually more appealing, and will be maintained up to date.

If you still are an active participant of WikiProject Physics, please add yourself to the current list of WikiProject Physics participants. Headbomb {ταλκWP Physics: PotW} 16:17, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Xero (company)

[edit]

I do not think that this should have been deleted for low notability.

It is a listed company, and has seen alot of media attention. Also, if you search 'Xero accounting' in google something like 50k hits emerge (almost all relating to this topic).

It was also founded by Rod Drury and that page linked to Xero as well.

I just struggle to see how it is not notable enough to be included. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.237.121.97 (talk) 05:06, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ITN

[edit]
Current events globe On 24 July, 2008, In the news was updated with a news item involving the article(s) Iraq at the 2008 Summer Olympics, which you recently nominated. If you know of another interesting news item involving a recently updated or created article, then please suggest it on the In the news candidates page.

--BanyanTree 22:32, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ITN credit.

[edit]

Nice to see the B'lore news making to the main page after some merges and lots of editing. But I was thinking if you can give some kind of souvenir like this for my collection. Or may be to some one else who you think deserves more than me. Well, I just had started that page 2008 Bangalore bombing and nominated it to ITN/C after updating the current event portal. But later discussion and admins merged it with 2 more articles. Is it ok to ask for this? --gppande «talk» 15:58, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's been a while... would you still like to have the souvenir, I can write you one... Keep up the good work :-) --Tone 06:48, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

VKernel prod

[edit]

Is the VKernel page nominated for deletion for notability? I didn't create the original page that was deleted. I thought I might try to create a new page for VKernel.--patrick.c.knight (talk) 15:59, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I nominated it procedurally because it got deleted before. Anyway, it looks it will be fine this time since the article is better. Regards. --Tone 06:48, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ITN Administrator category

[edit]

I created the category Category:Wikipedia in the news frequent administrators. As you have experience in ITN and ITN-related matters, I invite you to add your name there. The purpose is so if a non-admin (such as myself) needs an administrator to add, modify, or remove an item, you have experience in this area. Thanks, SpencerT♦C 01:40, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hm... it is empty at the moment. Might work in some time though. I think the easiest way is to see which of the admins is active at the moment and he/she will take care of the posts. The category does not help much if you want a fast response... --Tone 06:48, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you delete the banner with Olympic champions I added on the page of Sandra Isbasa? Lulubon (talk) 08:26, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your message. But I do not see your point: the banner just shows which country won the gold medal. On the banner it is written China 2008 so nobody is claming that Romania won. I just looked at the description of the banner. The rule that you applied to delete the banner is not listed. Where did you get the list of rules? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lulubon (talkcontribs) 08:35, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks again. Please if possible send me a link with the list of rules of when to use this banner or other banners. There are many pages of gymnasts which have this banner without having been olympic champions. (Including an old one made by myself). I agree with respecting "the rules" and with having consistency in editing new pages but I would like to know which are these rules. Moreover it will save you the truble of "undoing" and editing the mistakes of other people. I can assure you that my interest is in having good quality wiki articles. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lulubon (talkcontribs) 08:53, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lulubon (talk) 09:17, 14 August 2008 (UTC) Yes, I agree and I desagree with you at the same time. Yes, the banner is about who won gold as a TEAM at olympic games. So there is this page on Sandra Izbasa who won bronze with the team and not gold. Well someone can be very curious to know which country won gold in the period Izbasa performed as gymnast. This curious person can have a look at the bottom of the page at the banner and see China 2008 in the list of other countries, or can wiki about it (takes more time). In my oppinion the banner gives you an imediate impresion of what was the international context at the time a specific gymnast was performing. Something like : page of gimnast X who lived around year 1980, when country Y ruled at Olympic games. About the other banners on other pages: I am not so convinced (now) that they should be removed. Sorry, to disagree but I personally (fanatic fan of gymnastics) find the banner useful. Lulubon (talk) 09:17, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
